...step into low sec space (ie 0.2 or lower), would i stand much of a chance against player pirates? I just got my fancy new Brutix and it is pretty much equpied with mostly T1 gear. Is it even worth going into these low sec areas yet? Or should i wait till i can get into some T2 ships.
0.5 and above is getting boring. I know it's all about risk and reward but i don't want to go into lower sec space if i have absolutely no chance of survival.

Edited by: Amdushus Palimadore on 07/10/2006 06:38:32 there's always a chance of survival no matter what, and the brutix is a good ship. As a newer player, I suggest that you start in .4 and work your way down. Keep an eye on local nad don't stay in one place for far too long. If you're going to NPC or mine in a system, make sure you make a safespot first and if someone bad pops into local you can just warp to it.
Don't fit stabs because that's just lame. 0.4 and lower is where all the fun is. 0.0 is a blast when you're not in some 0.0 alliance trying to hold on to some small piece of real estate. Gateblobbing ftl.

brutix can be nasty - even t1 fitted .. but you need experience flying blasterships - especially with the brutix.
my recommendation would be - get a frig or maximum a cheapo fitted thorax to get your feets wet in PvP. only stupid people bring their shiniest mods to PvP when they never before engaged in actual player combat.
so better fly with t1 fitted/t1 ships 'til you're comfortable - then you can switch to the expensive gear (imho nothing sucks more than losing expensive stuff to newbie mistakes
and you WILL likely lose ships - but as long you don't make some really stupid mistakes (like flying around with all your assets your cargohold) you should be fine.
if you want to hunt NPCs in lowsec - well ... look for a quiet system and watch local/scanner.
oh .. and when entering lowsec with a bigger ship than a frig - take a look at the map .. it can safe your ship ___________________

You survive by avoiding or choosing your fights, not winning them.
You need to watch local and keep an eye on your overview, if people appear on your overview at a belt then run away.

Always guns blazing, you don't make ISK, you lose ISK though, but it's a **** ton of fun! Suicide ops are cool --------------------------

The best advice i can give is learn to use your scanner and keep ur local window seperate and always viewable (if that's even a word). The scanner is the most useful tool to any pvp'er or carebear in low sec alike. The tricky thing about a brutix is they move like a ton of bricks and take ages to warp so is risky if u don't want to fight.
In terms of winning fights ur problem is that pirates make money from killing so often won't engage unless they have a very good chance of winning.
Also you have to prepare for what u could face. for example if u don't have a web fitted then almost any interceptor could take u down or mayeb even a t1 frig. 1 thing u can do to help u survive solo pirate attacks is carry ecm drones in ur bay. 5 medium ecm drones will probably get a cycle on even a bs before u die giving u the chance to warp away.
but as ppl have said, just try it in a cheap ship first. thorax is a very good ship for pvp and pve and is rather cheap to replace. once u feel comfortable that u can handle yourself then take in the brutix. If u learn to use ur scanner and local effectively then low sec can be pretty safe, u can just never relax like u can in high sec (not that i'd know, not been in high sec for about a year )
Good luck
