Failure to engage MWD, failure to return to drone bay, the Navigation orbiting bug re-introduced...
It's kind of irritating losing millions of ISK to weapon systems that try to kill themselves. Imagine the outrage if Arbalest launchers fell off ships for no readily apparent reason.

Doesn't solve the problem of them trundling back at orbit speed instead of MWD speed.

Not to mention the whole mission aggroing NPC's when drones are simply released and drones selecting their own targets....

Actually since the last patch i've found this doesnt work so well anymore.
If they're more than say 3-5k away 'Return to dronebay' works as intended.
This is albeit, personal experience though.

I just spent a week fixing my sec status from -10.
I feel your pain.
I've lost a total of 14 T2 warriors because they've had a brain fart while returning to bay and decided it would be funny to have sex with eachother en-route to my ship.

What about drones not coming back at all? Drones attacking your gang mates? Drones getting stuck out there (on each other!)? Why don't they all attack the same target instead of spreading out? Why do I get flagged when using maintenance drones? Why does my client come to a halt when scooping up drones?
Using drones is also klunky! Why can't I see which drones in my drone bag are damaged? For that matter, why can't I repair the drones in my drone bay (I give up a slot for that! Please include structure!)? What do I need the 'drones in distance space' menu for when I'm not flying a carrier/mothership? Where are the drone usage shortkeys (like all other weapon systems have)? Why does the info on my drones not reflect the influence of my skills? Why don't my drones tell me why they refused my order? Where is the info telling me how far my drones are allowed to go? Why is the drones menu part of the overview anyway? Why does it take up so much space? Why can sentry drones 'return to drone bay' when they can't actually move (you can really only scoop them)? Where are the T2 sentry drones? What is the average airspeed of an unladen swallow?
Sure, some of these are trivial, but most of these problems are known for years, while some of them can be addressed with minimal effort. Most of them should have been addressed by now, really ...
Some love for the poor drone users out there? Isn't there even one dev out there that likes drones? Not one?

Hmm, if you're still getting this kind of problem I'd suggest filing a bug report. I have had zero problems with drones for a long time now.
They *always* return to drone bay first time, they *always* engage MWD's appropriately, they *always* stay on the target I ask them to. The only exception is when I instruct heavy drones to engage a target at >80km away, in that situation I sometimes need to re-issue the attack order.

Originally by: spurious signal Edited by: spurious signal on 07/10/2006 11:19:45 edit: reading the above posts it seems there's some bug that's possibly character-specific? Or maybe drone specific? Ship-specific? To clarify, I use vespa2s, hammerhead2s, ogre2s, warrior2s, wardens, gardes, heavy remote shield repair drones and webber drones with a dominix. No problems at all.
Possibly; it certainly seems more common with Amarr drones than any of the Gallente models.

I can just imagine the Drones flying back towards your ship, they start orbiting and fly towards you closer, then they grab your guns and pull them off your ship :P
I have no idea where that Idea came from, but it related too drones!

couple more whimes for you... losing a full rack of hammerhead IIs just because you lost connection or crashed to desktop, not really your fault, and how much do they cost now? 2 mil each?
And if they dont get destroyed, when you get back they are not under your control anymore so you have to go around and pick them up one by one, not nice if you are used to flying a dominix with no afterburner on.

Edited by: spRAYed on 07/10/2006 14:03:31 Drones are my Main Offense. (90% of my fights are in my Domi)
Its been worse but it still FAR from what they should be.
They dont return half the time. Warping off from a fight will cost me 5 times 1.8 Mill. 10 mill for warping off from a blob. Might aswell stay for the Insurance payout.
Yes, Return And Orbit > Then Scoop to drone bay. Thats the best thing to do.
Would be nice to see it fixed. For me, a 100% Gallente Pilot, drones are more important than anything.
Best thing to do for now.
EDIT:
They do however stay on targets properly and dont wtfpwn my gang members anymore. Its just returning that seems to be a problem for larger drones. ------------------------------

Are drones supposed to MWD back to a ship after an engagement, or after an order to return and orbit?

I've ha d aproblem where i've sent them at a target and half way there they go off and start shooting someone who has agressedme 20 mins before wether it be a gang mate borrowing cap. They are still in drone control range so u have to give them the command again and its annoying when the target is 50km infront and the gang mate 50km behind get the idea? ___________________________________________ Cookies if you hijack or sign my sig. I have encountered the same 'drones refusing to return' poblem for as long as I can remember. They always seem to hover JUST outside (500-1000) of scoopable range. It's high-time that CCP actually adressed this problem. I've heard of a 'fix' for smaller drones from CCP, but no real adressing of the fundamental problem. FIX drones already FFS. It's a problem that needs some 'dev' time, but seriously fix it already. So many have 'complained' AND filed bug reports on it, fix it already, please. Burying your collective heads in the sand and ignornig this PERVASIVE problem doesn't make it go away.
It's been reported by a lot of people AND bug-reported for so long it is not 'funny' anymore. Fix the darned drones already!

The last patch did solve a lot of problems for me, especially with the smaller drones. However, occasionally the problem of drones not returning returns. The problem were drones return in 'slow' mode has never been addressed. What also hasn't been addressed is the fact that drones, as a weapon system, are much harder to use then all the others. Everything by mouse, and the drone menu in overview is klunky at best. One thing that always annoys me is that I have to lock onto my own drones so I can remote repair them. In a Domi this takes ages. Why is locking necessary, its not like I don't know where they are! I can bloody send command signals to them! Really!
I just hope that at one point (soon I hope) CCP decides to dedicate a single dev to the problem of drones and finally fixes ALL problems. If its a problem of testing, just contact me, I'll help you to the best of my ability. I think a lot of drone users will do the same. I would just like to see some recognition from CCP that this is a problem to be addressed (soon).

Wow, I think you got ALL of them.
Except the fact that Webber drones don't MWD back. Ever. They fly at orbit speed, so you have to eject a can and tell them to attack it, then recall them when they get close.
But we definitely need more hotkeys for drones too. My sig has the link. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Want more hotkeys in EVE? Post here. |
