Hi, can I ask this question here.
I am looking to a new monitor or TV to play Eve on. It crossed my mind as to playing on a 4k 40 inch tv by Panosonic which has HDMI 2.0 input.
Unfortunately my graphics card has only HDMI 1.4 or display port and the TV does not have a display port.
So to conclude what is the best way to fix this set up I cannot find a display port to HDMI 2.0 cable anywhere if I go HDMI standard to HDMI standard will I be able to play it in 2k at 60 hz .
Also on a 40 inch screen will Eve look bad I mean like what is the highest resolution EVE will go to full screen.
Any suggestions for the greatest display possible without the image going 'pixel bad' will be gratefully received, maybe even some dev's input on the best way to go .
My graphics card is a 780 N videa gainwood.
Many thanks. |

Your card wont play 4k well at all, and tbh a 40inch is not worth 4k, 4k is better suited to larger screens say 50inch and higher.
On a side note though, your 1.4 connection should work find as hdmi 2.0 is backward compatible. The limitation here is your graphics card. Because of how cards and game programming in general is you will need at least a sli 980 setup for 4k to be even usable. |

Note that most affordable 4k monitors currently available don't do 4k at 60 Hz non-interlaced (a.k.a. progressive).
I work for one of the largest companies in the live production video industry, and there isn't a decent 4k monitor I'd consider buying yet.
Also as you noticed, not all video cards support 4k. It is more than just a cabling issue! As a hack, some 4k monitors appear as two separate monitors, and hence use two cables.
Some current cheap 4k monitors have very buggy software. Having a 4k monitor lock-up, crash, etc., isn't uncommon, and has been reported in many reviews. The quality of the re-scaler, de-interlacing, etc., also varies greatly, sometimes not only between products but just between video modes.
I'd give 4k at least another year before it is practical for pro-sumers, and longer for average consumers as 4k sources are virtually non-existent aside from streaming. |

I got a iiyama b2888uhsu and another hp l1950g driven by a R9 280. Three clients run quite stable at 60fps after I switched the shader nonsense off (as I have no need for blur nor glare). Don't get a 4k TV. Those are overprices junk for braggarts.
Before you ask, no Elite is not running well on that setup. Four players per wing. Laughable!

Hello,
New to the forums so I will keep this brief.
4K resolution, you have a capable card. 4GB is required. I have been using 4K for almost 2 years now.
As far as getting the monitor, I use a 60 inch Samsung 9000 series along with a AMD R9 290X 4GB card.
Most games however do not support 4K, some can be tricked into the 4K resolution though.
When purchased it was very expensive;
However today, depending where you live (Australia here) you can get them under $2,000 AUD. So it is a lot cheaper now. The 55 inch Samsung UHD 8500 series is probably your best fit.

If your looking for a smaller LCD/LED monitor 28-inch has been released globally in most markets relatively cheap.
I would recommend one of these:
a. ASUS PB287Q LCD Monitor ~ $ 750 http://www.techbuy.com.au/p/317621/MONITORS_25_TO_29_LCD/ASUS/PB287Q.asp
b. Or if your on a tight budget, the AOC ~ $ 550 AUD http://www.techbuy.com.au/p/317967/MONITORS_25_TO_29_LCD/AOC/U2868PQU.asp
AUD is around 0.80 cents verses the greenback at present.

PS. HDMI 1.4 is all that is required, HDMI 2.0 is the new revision and 100% backwards compatible. |

4K TV's are dominantly 30Hz, not 60Hz which is the minimum you want from a computer screen. The panels are also of horrible quality. |

HDMI 1.4 will support 4K resolutions. Source, http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_1_4/4K.aspx . However you will need to verify your cabling, TV and the particular model of your 780 all will support 1.4 HDMI. It is probably better to just buy a monitor though oppose to a TV. Even though your TV probably says 60HZ it is most likely 30HZ. Refresh rate is pretty critical for games. |

You need HDMI 2.0 for single-link 4k at 60 Hz.
As I previously posted in this thread, some monitors split the 4k display area in half and use dual-link HDMI 1.4
Currently DisplayPort is a better choice for 4k. |

Yeah that sounds about right. |
