I dunno if I'm posting this question in the right place. And feel a little stupid for asking.
When I use to play you had to upgrade your clone to protect your skills so if you got podded your skill points are protected. My mate was out the other day flying through low sec picking some stuff up when he got caught in a warp bubble soon enough ended up in his pod which ended up getting destroyed, I did have a MAS (mildly amused smirk) but then the penny dropped I asked him if his clone protected his SP and he didn't know asked him to make sure his clone is upgraded for the next time he got podded but we couldn't work out if it need to be done or not. |

Yeah they got rid of that a few updates back, figured it didn't add anything to the game.
And he was flying through low and got caught in a warp bubble eh? |

Dev Blog - A New Era of Clones
CCP Terminus wrote:The Changes in Rhea [Released Tuesday December 9, 2014]
With the release of Rhea, changes will be made to medical clones and how they work.
There will no longer be any clone grades. You will not have to upgrade your clone upon being pod killed. New players can be badly surprised by this system since they have so many other important things to learn. Forgetting to upgrade the clone and losing skill points because of that is a terrible experience for new players. Skill point acquisition is very much tied to your subscription and the real money you spent on the game, so taking some of their skill points away can feel like wasted money to the player.
In addition, veteran players will have more reasons to undock in cheaper ships, furthering our goal of increased interactivity within the game, since the cost of the higher clone grades could be orders of magnitude more than the cost of a PvP ship hull. We expect more risks to be taken more often by veterans because of this change.
There will no longer be any skillpoint loss upon death. Small lapses of forgetfulness will no longer cause players to retrain weeks of lost skillpoint time. This too should encourage veterans to fly even more boldly into battle without worrying about protecting valuable skills. Note: Subsystem skills related to T3 Strategic Cruisers will still work as they did before. This is because their skill loss is a component of the ship balancing itself. This may be revisited in the future.
The cost of setting your home station will be increased from 5400 ISK to 100,000 ISK. This keeps the cost of moving your home station low without making it completely trivial.
Patch Notes for Rhea 1.0 wrote:Gameplay:
* The skill point loss incurred on clone death has been removed (exception being T3 cruiser death penalty) along with the requirement to keep your clone up to date with a relevant clone grade
* The default clone that you are issued after death is free and sufficient to protect your skills on death
* You no longer have the option of purchasing higher clone grades
* Consequently the clone upgrade discount for upgraded Factional Warfare systems has been removed |

A lot of new players call anything that's not highsec lowsec, null space included. The game warnings (which they likely never turned off) don't actually make a distinction between lowsec and nullsec either.
So there are a few possible scenario's:
1) It was actually his mate that was actually in nullsec picking up something from a nullsec NPC station. This seems highly unlikely. 2' It was actually his mate that was flying in lowsec and got ganked. Being a newbie, he didnt understand why he couldn-Št warp, googled it and found "warp bubble" as possible explanation and relayed that information to OP. 3) It was OP himself, who took a risk, got ganked, failed at the trivial task of warping off the pod in lowsec and made up the friend/warp bubble story to sound like a pro helping his friend in a vain attempt to cover up his own failings. 4) It was OP himself risking a nullsec adventure unprepared, getting killed by the local alliance and genuingly confusing nullsec with lowsec.
I find option #3 the most likely. |
