I would like to start by saying that I'm not entirely sure if this belongs on this board. I searched the forums and this was my best bet for these questions.
I have been playing Eve for a little while now and have reached the point at which I want to start my own corporation. A few ideas have come to my mind, but I felt that it would be very beneficial to ask more experienced minds. So if you have particular great advice or an experience to share please feel free to do so.
I understand that the most important part of running a successful corp is to recruit people in to it. The forums seem like a good place to start, but where else should I direct my attentions? I don't want to be viewed as a spammer, but I want to be able to recruit some members in a reasonable amount of time. As a newer player should there be a cap on the number of members I allow in to my corp?
I want my corp to be focused on both wormhole pvp as well as pve, but I eventually want to put up a POS in empire space as well as gain some sovereignty. Any suggestions on how narrowed I should keep my focus in these early steps? Or is it good to run an incursion or something every once in a while?
As of right now I have found that having a fleet primarily consisting of cruisers with a mix of frigates/destroyers/battle-cruisers/battleships to support them is a strong, viable strategy. If anyone has any materials that they found helpful/useful regarding wormhole pve and pvp tactics I would appreciate it if you could post a link to where they are posted. Should I mix armor/shield tankers in my fleet? Or is it better to run just one type?
I want to have a corp funded program to purchase a ship for a player to use, or because he lost one, on a corp sanctioned activity. However I want this to be an incentive to push the corp forward rather than a crutch for members to use. Does anyone have any experiences setting up a similar program? And if so, how did you go about setting up and maintaining yours?
If there is something that you think is important that I have missed please feel free to share it. Any assistance is welcome, thanks.

The truth is you need to maximise your ehp, so you probably want all ships to shield/armor and structure tank. That way they'll survive longer, wormholes are dangerous. Also mixing your fleets composition like you suggest should work very well, some of the rats will have trouble hitting smaller faster ships like frigates, and their dps will be wasted.
Taking sov from the empires to set up your high sec pos is difficult, but it can be done. You just have to persevere. Also do not listen to the haters and detractors, you can and will be a strong and forceful leader, you've taken a wise step by posting for help here in CAOD, where you can receive the knowledge that the wealth of experience many capsuleer pilots will be eager to share with you. |

I would go so far as to ban faction ships early. They aren't needed to help build numbers and trust in others for your new corp. But, thats just me. Maybe not having them reimbursed would be better.
A permanent presence in a WH is a big step, bigger than moving to low sec, and certainly bigger than setting up a POS in high sec. Living in a WH requires a lot of dedication from each one in your corp, and C3 and C4 anoms really don't benifit from having a lot of people there, 4-5 regulars tops.
If your people are keen on WH's, do some regular WH raids: get everyone into some Tier 2 BCs with some RR, probes and gugs and go find people or sites to kill. Can be hella fun, and not have any of the POS dwelling drawbacks.
POSs in high sec really only exist for BP research, or for a safe harbour in systems without stations (Botane for eg).
Another good corp activity is a disposable cruiser gang roaming through low sec. They can be fun too. Get an office in or near a trade hub to keep up with ship/equipment replacement, and not far from mission agents for those who want extra isk. Thank you for the continued replies everyone. I was wondering if setting up a POS in LS would be a foolish thing to do with a new corp? |

As a new and small corp, you should not put up any POS anywhere unless it is on a tech moon. Tech moons appear only in highsec, FYI. |

Lol I can assure you that I am not a troll, just trying to look at all the possibilities. The mixed fleets were more for the PVP element of the corp rather than PVE.
However reading different posts on the forums along with advice I have gotten here has convinced me to change the corp's overall focus. I have decided to make WH raids, with a static k - space base, the priority rather than set up in a WH. If anyone feels like sharing a piece of advice with regards to WH raiding please feel free to. As of right now it is not an objective I have thought too much about.
Fleet composition will still consist primarily of cruisers, mostly DPS and RR. Should I look at mixing in other niche rolls as well, such as ECM? I would also like to try mixing in a BC or BS in to the fleet (I have decided not to place frigates in to the fleet as a cruiser can fit most of the same rolls with more survivability) but I'm not entirely sure what I should be looking for in these classification of ships other than DPS. Any insight in to this or suggestions on different ways to use one of these classes of ship would be greatly appreciated.
I was also thinking about what a route would be better to take; gather the loot we collect together and produce ships with it or sell it out right. I'm not an industrial pilot myself but I would like to have some pilots that are. A few different people that I have spoken to have advised against manufacturing most ships for profit because the return is minimal at best. If anyone has any pointers they are more than welcome.
Thinking of different fleet compositions made me wonder how to go about filling each role. I was thinking about setting up a "job posting" type system where the details for a fleet position that the corp is need of can be posted with some sort of incentive for the responding pilot. I am interested in hearing anyone's suggestions or comments.
I understand that the realm of this conversation has drifted slightly from Corporation Management in to a little bit of fleet tactics, but I feel like that is an important detail in leading a successful corporation. If you disagree then I would be interested to hear your argument.
Thanks for taking the time to read post.

Top notch advice: run far, far away from CAOD if you want serious advice.
Second best idea: give me all roles and let me into your corp. Nothing bad will happen, I promise. |

I've managed to garner a few pieces of useful information from these boards as of late, so I think it has paid off. Also it is nice to have a few people around to troll you too lol. It is something I have grown very accustomed too =P That does raise the question though; what other resources are there amongst the many tubes have I missed? Currently I am using the forums here as well as a bit of eve-search. Links or references to any other eve related web sites would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Here's the most useful advice you're going to get in CAOD: Join a successful corp/alliance and spend some time getting to understand how and why they've gotten to where they are. You don't get on top by being terrible at this game (though sometimes numbers can offset large quantities of terrible), and administering such an organization can be a tremendous undertaking. Learn from the best, and emulate their success. |

At times starting smaller and working up can be an adventure. My own experience was joining a middle ground WH corporation from recruiting (Bite Me Inc.). I was there to watch the corporation, and then the alliance that it founded (Narwhals Ate My Duck), grow into one of the WH powerhouses and pretty much the go-to merc group for all of your WH needs.
For a look at WH PvP (mostly higher end stuff) check out http://failheap-challenge.com/showthread.php?144-Wormhole-Space-%2833-posts-deleted-and-counting%29 this thread in the War and Politics portion of FHC.
While raiding WHs is fun and all, you may eventually feel the need for purpose, at which point I suggest trying to live in a WH C2 to C4. When you are large enough, try out the higher end WHs. The higher you go, the more likely you will run into expensive ships; a fleet composed entirely of capital ships, Tech 3's, pirate battleships (Bhaalgorns and Vindicators [more of the former, if I am honest my Vindicator gives me a hardon, so I kinda have to include it]), and, where triage carriers are absent, Logistics.
If you live in w-space, your pod is your life. As such, getting your own pod out and podding others is very important. Non-consensual PvP happens, bubbles happen, but not as much or as often as if you are throwing your nullsec blob at another nullsec blob. The mass limits mean that focusing more isk and effectiveness into a lower mass is very important, so T3s really rule there.
POS: Make sure it is secure. The password should be a long and random string of letters and numbers, while you simply set corp / alliance use on said POS. Make sure you have roles worked out. One set of SMAs should have very limited access, allowing the CEO and directors to store both their own and others' shinies away from the hands of a potential thief. Another option is to set up a POS for a small group of players to limit how much an individual (non-director OFC) can steal. Starbase management should be very limited and only expanded to others if the POS is about to run out of fuel. Do not leave shiny ships floating in space, [DUCK] or another group will probably shoot it just for the shinies or the hope that you will PvP to defend it (we really won't if it is in C4 or below, but others will. If others hire us to, we will ofc.).
D-scan - Watch it. Constantly scan for incoming WHs, otherwise you might be surprise dropped by someone and get a nice http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_related&kll_id=9965364 KM or two. (Alternatively, if you are fat, rich, and lazy like myself, don't even bother to watch it at all.)
Be sure to check out http://www.staticmapper.com/ Static Mapper. Be warned though, Static Mapper is based on human input and is thus not entirely accurate. For a more accurate picture, check out the constellation (if the system is a C6) or region (likehttp://www.staticmapper.com/index.php?region=Unknown+%28R25%29 this, note the two systems that show two statics, that is incorrect. All of the systems of that region are similar). Also, Static Mapper is silly slow now.
A note on living in the relative safety of C1s (where you can build capitals (that, like capitals anywhere C1-C4 are born and will die in the system in which they were built) if you really want and an enemy is limited to BC sized hulls if the enemy does not set up a POS and start building stuff in your home that will never leave there), these systems are much less secure with the addition of the new Tier 3s. If the pos guns are taken down or do not do enough damage, these Tier 3's will rip through those shields like a heated knife through 1,000,000 m of butter (as compared to a plastic spoon recently taken from the refrigerator through a similar amount of butter).
EDIT: CCP, your BBC code is so ****** up. It looks so much nicer if the hyperlink chat thing works. |
