Did the servers just go down now or what just happened? I was mining peacefully and all of the sudden I was disconnected and now I cant find the server any more.

This is the 3rd time I have been disconnected in the last hour, what the heck is going on with EVE. They can make a good game but can't build a server for crap.

I mean for god sakes. Haven't been seeing any news bulletins about, "Hey, we're going to actually upgrade our systems again" for over 6 months now have we? But oh the users just keep rolling in.

Is it just me or do the servers seem to crash more often since the last couple of updates? I started playing a little bit over a year ago. And while the servers did have their issues then they didn't seem to crash nearly as often as they do now. I just don't get what the problem is. With the hardware that they've described installed in their datacenter they should have the capacity to run the servers with no problem with up to 30-35K simultaneous users if not more. I can only surmise that there are still problems in the server side code that are causing way too many crashes. I guess I should be grateful that I was docked during this crash. --------------------------------------------------

But don't forget, there's scheduled downtime. That's right, in 2 hours, EVERY DAY! See how much that accomplishes!?

the server didn;t go down, there was some isp issue somewhere over the world that was nothing to do with us and we couldn't anything about it. some people were able to access TQ, we was not some of those people.

Edited by: Stealthy on 17/10/2006 11:51:31 so your saying CCP has no backup ISP for when its primary goes kaput? to quote spock "that is not logical." Not to mention the hell you have created for the GMs handling petitions

Do you have any idea how much money it costs CCP for their bandwidth? Having a backup would increase the subs quite significantly. In any case it might not have been their ISP that had the problem. Almost certainly not in fact since they say that some people had access to TQ. That strongly suggests that the problem was somewhere else on the Internet. You can hardly blame CCP for failures elsewhere on the Internet and surely can't expect them to maintain a worldwide backup Internet?
Since I managed to avoid calling you names I'll go further and explain how the internet works. It's a lot like a road system. To use that analogy CCP are only responsible for the driveway from the main road to their offices. If that fails no-one can play Eve. The main road connects to a highway which connects to another and so on until we get to a minor road and your driveway comes off that. Each stretch of road between CCP's driveway and your driveway is owned and operated by a separate ISP and there is no service contract between you, CCP or those ISPs.
Since apparently some people could play Eve the driveway was fine..and that's as far as it goes. CCP cannot be held responsible for the state of the road outside their offices. They can be held responsible for choosing to use that office but since the office in question is actually based alongside one of the busiest and best maintained roads in the world they are actually to be congratulated for paying that rent.
Bottom line here:The Internet is a patchwork of millions of routers and the fact they all work together is something of a miracle. At one time it was supposed to route around problems but unfortunately commercial rules means that ISPs can often be reluctant to stop using their preferred partner because it costs more. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

and even if ccp did have a backup isp, if say at&t here in the states had an outage that connected them to iceland, all att&t customers and anyother isp that uses at&t's network could not connect to eve. that is the nature of the internet

All of the isp problem excuses are assuming one VERY important fact: That you actually BELIEVE that it WASN'T CCP and that this isn't ANOTHER in a very long line of empty excuses. Just my conspiracy theory 2 cents. *

So why did the server restart if it was just a internet outage ?

Edited by: Marguies on 17/10/2006 20:31:36 there IS an internet outage and it's not something with just CCP i have been more or less offline for the past 6 days with the problem and so have Many many others. it shows as problems with connecting to yahoo, myspace, ccp, eve, and many other sites, or services. I am not one to jump in and offer my 2 cents often but on this one i WILL say CCP isn't at fault. It's affected almost all of my ISP customers ... I am currently on at my sons college otherwise all i could do is look at html 4 on down most server technologies get messed up with the problem whatever it is.
oh and btw ...... this isn't so much an ISP issue as in server related so much as a very large scale router issue to my understanding. So back up ISP or not if ya can't pass packets you should KNOW that nothing will happen and even in rerouting the times can potentially slow down to the point of exceeding ttl or settings for time outs. blah blah blah anyways if ya wanna think about it b4 you all start shooting at anyone it will lower yer blood pressure LOL
