OMG I can post in the CAOD section now

This is not a joke nor a rant, it's me asking for help, help that will be rewarded.
The situation
I can no longer properly play Eve. After 2, 5 or sometimes 20-30 jumps, my fps drops below 10. Sometimes however I can play a whole 3-6 hours session without problems. This fps drop occurs only after jumping, never if docked or missioning in the same system. This also started after the Dragon patch, didn't have problems before. I sometimes run multiple clients. When the fps drop occurs, it happens to only 1 client, not all.
The hardware
CPU: AMD 64 3700+ MB: Asus A8N5X RAM: 2 x 1024MB 400Mhz Video: MSI NX6800GS TD256E (GeForce6800GS)(PCI-E) Audio: Realtek on-board (however I never play Eve with sound)
Heat (same values prior to Dragon and the problems): CPU: 53-55 C Video: 70-72 C System: 38-45 C
What I tried, in order 1. Latest nVidia drivers from nVidia since I have the same problem on a P4 that has a Gigabyte 6600GT (PCI-E). However on another P4 with Sapphire Radeon 9800 PRO (AGP) I don't have this problem. 2. Clearing the cache folder 3. Reinstalling Eve and then tried the nVidia drivers and MSI drivers 4. Put in the WinXP CD, delete partition, format hdd, clean install now only with: Win XP SP2 with DirectX 9.0c, latest video drivers, mb drivers , audio drivers and a very clean Eve install. Surprise, after 3 jumps I got the fps drop again.
The cry
So now I am pretty much stuck. I am looking at a computer that has only Win XP and Eve on it, a computer that 4 months ago could run 4 eve clients without a sweat for hours and I am asking myself, what else can I do? And no, it's not my internet connection, it's a FPS DROP FFS.
The 2 billions
Here we are. Throw in your advices and ideas and I am going to try. One at a time until this is fixed. The right hint gets 2 bil. Devs and ISD members can participate too . _______________________________________________

We have had 3 reports of this over the past 4 months, the second instance I thoroughly investigated and when the player involved attempted to logfile the issue he found it was fixed....
Run logserver in the background, ctrl-del within it every so often to wipe the contents and record the actual jump associated with the fps drop. Then zip it and add in a dxdiag and then Bug Report!
It seems a very rare event, possibly heat related, or possibly some odd conflict, catch it occurring, as often as possible and it'll give alot more information to investigate.

I'm quite sorry to say this but :
I have seen the same problem over at net cafes where PCs have exactly the same H/W (don't ask how I get hold of this information) and the same software, even though it goes fubar sometimes on some particular machines.
As you already said on your post, I have also seen this occur only after Dragon patch.
The cure ?
I really don't know to be honest, a good start would be trying to downgrade the graphic card's to some older version or try another graphics card (borrow one from a friend or something only to test it).
GL with this problem. _____________________________

Reinstall your eve client, saving your cache folder of course. Well, uninstall, defrag, install, defrag again.
Check what you have running by opening task manager. If you know you don't need it, close it.
Disable that onboard sound, seriously. It's a load of rubbish, and it is consuming resources that could be used for other things. Get a proper sound card if you like playing music when playing eve.
If you do play music, with say winamp, WMP or whatever, put your music files on another drive, actually, put even on its own drive, or even its own ide channel (if you're not using SATA).
Turn off chat logging if you have it enabled, especially if you are in an npc noob corp in one of your clients!

Right now it's a clean install with latest MSI drivers. I cleaned all my 3 comps 2 weeks ago with 3 cans of compressed air (most expensive clean ever ) Also the clean install part should answer all your other questions :)

In a bit. And no

The problem is that I let my character do a 25 jumps trip in windowed mode, went to watch TV, the Eve was main process and selected as such. When I came back, fps = 6-7 I'd hate it if I have to run Eve full mode.

Edited by: Xs 142 on 17/10/2006 23:00:03 Simple: Turn EVERYTHING off and add one thing at a time (Once per 6 hours?) Until you get the problem again and, ravioli, you've found the problem
The issue at hand is that Something is overloading the gfx card. Mostly it's shadowing btw so begin there.
Also a defrag check could help, try o&o defragmentation, it's better than windows and free

Edited by: Pardack on 17/10/2006 23:03:56 In your cache folder edit your prefs.ini and add/change the line buffersize=512
Also your rig is running pretty hot. If you're handy with computers, try some ArticSilver/Ceramique (a little goes a long way), if anything your CPU will love you for it :)
Try updating your chipset drivers, I'm not sure if Nvidia provides them or not though (are those the MSI drivers, not sure).
Check in your BIOS for a Cool n' Quiet option and try disabling it.
Using the latest drivers is not always the best solution. Try going back one or two revisions.
In EVE, under ctrl-alt-shift-M try enabling the ROT Cache and Memory Mapping.
Good luck.
*edit - I know you said you don't use sound in EVE, but you can also try disabling your Sound Card in your BIOS or in the Windows Device Manager.

A bug report with a logserver file certainly crossed my mind but this is what happened last time I try: Start logserver Start Eve Play, jump, wait, play, jump, wait etc. etc. Suddenly it happened, I catched the aprox. hour. Closed Eve, looked at the log file. In the 5 minutes that passed the log server added lots of lines and the file was quite huge I will certainly try again if nothing works.
Now going to try some of the advices _______________________________________________

Go into your pref.ini and adjust your ram usage from 80 to 256 per client.
Since you are running 4 accounts, create 4 copies of eve and assignment them MAUNELLY to each Core via the Task manager. Eve is fussy on multi-core enivroments sometimes.
I am going to assume a duel screen setup here, so make sure assign each eve client to the respective mointers you are using for it, and make sure the whole window, including the little blue line on the side of the wondow is clear across on their respective windows.
---------------------------- Now I do not know what you are running in the background of your computer, if I can get a screen shot of your process list, that would be helpful.
Are you certain that there are no virus or spamware sitting in your computer?
In the really screwed up event, an option is to "virtually" host 4 NICs on 1 card. that means 4 IP address on 1 card(yes you can do this) And get each eve client to run of 1 card, though I am not sure on the eve part.
This might sound like a werid one, but have you washed your computer with soap and water, I was my parts every year to remove dust and static build up, which turns to heat buildup and actually signal lost within the system.
