If you call this a success I would hate to witness a failure.
The launcher is stuck on an endless loop of "Installing files" and "Downloading EVE launcher update" - those messages alternate rapidly and there is no progress.
If I close the launcher and restart it, then it downloads the update and closes itself, never to be seen again. After relaunching we're back to square one. |

Is there a list of required IP ranges/ports for the launcher?
So far I've identified three data centers that CCP appears to use: Highwinds Network Group RIPE Network Coordination Center Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC)
Without their CIDR (IP ranges) approved in my firewall, I wasn't getting anywhere with the launcher.

The tip with the kaspersky anti virus helped a lot, However the game client is running really slow. Hopefully it will clear up in the next coming day.
If this becomes to much hassle i would like to be able to use the old way of getting on Eve Online.

Downloading the full 7.x gigs of "download on demand", it froze at 1.54 gigs out of 7.92. (Waited 10 mins with no progress.)
Killed the launcher after it wouldn't close, waited, and restarted.
Now getting Error from launcher:
--- Unable to access remote info-file.
{ i } Remote Info-file could not be fetched. http://client.eveonline.com/patches/premium_patchinfoTQ_inc.txt Please check your internet-connection. If the problem persists, please contact Customer Support by filing a petition. ---
I'm just going to assume that CCP's overloaded right now and I'll be able to continue downloading the content later.

Did people actually ask for this to be put into the launcher because even with a Flawless launch it makes no sense why i would want the same install across multiple installs When it takes no time at all to get stuff i have in both from a fresh install ....

For those of us with sub-par internet at home, is there an install package for all of the resources? When I was playing with it on Singularity, it took a minute at least to load the model and various skins for a cruiser, let alone a station, I'd rather download the whole thing at school and install that on the desktop at home. |

I'd recommend setting the "Download all the resource files" flag in the launcher settings. The launcher will then download everything. Better restart the launcher after changing this setting.

If you got a 7gb file download, then restarting the launcher is the way to go. I had this issue, because I started patching before we had published the correct patchinfo files and purged the old ones, and the issue instantly resolved for me. I realise that you're sorted, but also replying to the person you replied to (as well as anyone else experiencing the 7gb download issue)

I got an installation for Singularity and another one for Tranquillity. Is it ok to have them both use the same cache location or will this be causing any issues?
Just wanted to make sure, though maybe this is what was being referred to as "multiple EvE installations". |

If we select the Download all the resource files setting, will the game do this in the background or will the launcher force the full download and delay launch of the game?
It would be nice if it was Diablo 3 Style, where the game will initially be playable early, but the full texture download happens in the background.
My understanding is without the setting checked, we will not download everything, only stuff in our general area, like adjacent systems and whatnot. Is that right?
Ideally, I'd like to launch the game as early as possible, but still download everything completely after enough time passes. |

Ah, yes. To clarify: We want to give give you the option of starting to play while the launcher is downloading the full resource set. Rest assured, we will not remove the option to download all the resource files.

Scylla patch file: 29MB - can be copied to an USB stick to use at home "with sub-par internet"
Download all the resource files downloads another 238MB - where are those files stored? Please tell me you are not asking me to copy 13.7GB / 68,074 files / 257 folders (shared cache folder) each time there is something added to the shared cache...
"Export patch" -> 29MB of (29+238MB) Scylla release. I don't need fast internet for those 29MB but the other 238MB.
"Export last shared cache files" ... missing?
That's exactly what I asked for in devblog comments, every answer was: "Yeah, you will be able to download the release somewhere else and copy it on an USB stick to patch your eve installation at home".

Don't forget to change the permissions (give your non administrator account "modify" access) on the SharedData location, otherwise if you run the launcher with your non administrator account it will fail to launch due to permissions errors (which are reported as file not found errors).
Unless of course you're happy to re-setup your overview etc etc and just continue to run eve as an administrator (don't do this). |

Now... where is it? The patch you export should contain the deltas that were downloaded and applied to the EVE Client binaries (those in the install location).
You can copy the shared resource cache to a portable disk, but there's no way to extract a list of recently added files, without trawling the cache and reading all the file access times. I would imagine what was meant by whatever reply was given to you, was that you can copy that shared cache and use that on other machines, as you wish, but there isn't an 'export last shared cache files' option and I don't think there will be that option, either.
The shared cache location can be seen by opening the settings dialog in the EVE Launcher and viewing the path shown on the Download tab.
As an aside, the full installer is also available for download, but I assume you don't want to copy large quantities of data around, and so 7GB of installer files isn't what you want. |

In the event that this separate resource file archive doesn't exist, you could always do something like use rsync (or windows equivalent) to keep an updated copy of the SharedDate on an external drive. There are plenty of tools around that will only copy modified files/data from a directory tree, so you could patch + download full resources at school/work/wherever, rsync C:\ProgramData\CCP to an external hard drive, then rsync it from that drive to your home computer, only actually copying the changed files. |

Pre-Scylla: I opened the launcher at work (thankfully I was allowed to do this), download the patch, went to eve directory and copied the 123456_win.patch file to an USB stick, went home, copied patch to eve directory, opened the launcher and the whole patch was applied without downloading anything (low bandwith + volume limit at home).
Post-Scylla: meh... whole shared cache or nothing. It takes quite some time with USB 2.0 to copy those 70,000 files.
Guess I'll have to find the "don't download at all even if demand" option which won't exist...
But maybe I'll test how many Socket Closed I can force with download on demand... clicking an imgurl link in chat helps a lot to create closed sockets on low bandwith - curious to find out if dod will do the same.

Some users have reported that if you try running the EVE Launcher as administrator, it will solve these issues. It's something we're currently investigating. |

What if I do not WANT a shared resource folder? I'm running two installations of Eve from two separate harddrives (not partitions, physical hard drives!) because this improves my loading times a lot. If the game is going to pull all data from the same location, I'll be getting frustrated pretty soon... Or is this only patch information the game downloads once, and then distributes it to the other clients so I no longer need to download things twice? If so, then all is good c: |

Go to the launcher settings cog, select the download tab and tick the "Download all the resource files". Restart the launcher and the launcher will download all resources the client needs before you can log in.

Okay, this does not look good. No matter what I do, the game thinks I need to migrate 13 Gigabyte towards the shared folder. This means that multiple installations WILL be running from the same client, which WILL impact my performance and load times. Well great.
So while this process is going on, what do I do with my other two installations? I'm not keen on having several gigabyte worth of useless data. Will the clients be removing unnecessary data after moving? If I open the other client to patch, will I have to migrate all those 13 Gigabyte AGAIN or will it be smart enough to detect the already detected folder? Or does that mean I have no business any more with two separate installations and need to remove one because I will only run from one executable from now on? If so, what am I going to do with all those locally stored files? Both clients use separate interface settings, separate market quickorders (dozens of them). Am I needing to rearrange and add EVERYTHING again?
I so don't look forward to this... |

Just out of curiousity:
Download on demand enabled - early after a release is deployed. Download server is busy and/or even might shut down / not accepting new requests. I encounter something "new" which will force my client to download higher resolution files of this "new" thing. Download server won't respond / request timeout:
a) client stops the download request and will only show low resolution of this "new" thing until I encounter it again b) client might run into a "Socket Closed" because the requested file couldn't be downloaded (outstanding packets, packet loss, ..)
There is already someone in the german forum saying he got connection losses while flying through lowsec... my 2 ISK would be dod related...

I so don't look forward to this... Yes, when you start up the second client you'll need to go through the migration steps again. This is an unfortunate consequence of having file names that are determined by the hash of the file content. During testing on Singularity we tried have it as an optional migrate, but we found that users were often not migrating their assets at all, and were then complaining about downloading gigabytes of data.
We decided that it was better to go through a one-time-per-install migration for everyone than to risk most people not migrating at all.
Once the migration process completes, it will delete the source .stuff files in the EVE installation, so you won't have to continually migrate the same installation. It's still possible to have multiple individual installations, although our long term plan is to remove the necessity of having them, simply to isolate your settings profiles. |

hmmm... I'm thinking DoD should have been opt in... not forced upon....
I'd have much preferred to have dl'd the update once for a couple of hours vs the 4 or 5 hours of restarts, deletes and re-installs that this has already come to. Not to mention avoiding the future lag issues with the damn thing constantly "updating demand content" in the future.
I've given up and am just doing a completely fresh install of everything... Should I just go ahead and do that for the other two accounts as well to save time? |

Hi!
I noticed on the Sisi client after it was changed to download on demand that when i made a session change ingame like jumping a gate or undocking from station that the client halts for 2-3 secs.
I never got around to reporting it and forgot about it until i patched my tq client today and the issue was introduced on tq as well.
Now, when jumping gates its not that big of an issue as you end up cloaked after jumping but undocking from a station leaves your ship in space while the client hangs and takes away the seconds you may need to get away from station before someone targets you.
I cannot find any other posts about this but I know other players have noticed it as well.

- I currently have one installation of Eve Online
- I currently run two instances of this one installation for my two accounts

Questions:

- Are files now going to be duplicated or redundant due to everything being copied over to the new folder?
- Should I now copy a second installation of Eve Online to run my second account?

Your current install will still exist, just without the art, audio and video assets, which will be in the shared resource cache.
Desert Ice78 wrote:- Are files now going to be duplicated or redundant due to everything being copied over to the new folder?
The .stuff files and any audio or video files under the res/ folder will be moved to the shared resource cache and the now redundant source files removed.
Desert Ice78 wrote:- Should I now copy a second installation of Eve Online to run my second account?
I don't see why you would need to, if you were using one install to run them both already.

Continue as before.

I don't think it will affect it greatly; patching of the binaries will occur in the same manner as before, but assets may be downloaded as you encounter a ship or similar that uses them. |

The launcher will move all the resource files to the new shared cache location so you don't have to download that again. The stuff files will be deleted afterwards so you won't have duplicates lying around. Once the conversion process has finished the launcher will download anything that has changed, similar to what it's always done.
You don't need a second installation to run your second account - that will work the same as it did before.
Your bandwidth usage overall shouldn't change.

I have an issue with the launcher. Although I ticked the box that allows it to download all assets in one go, it keeps extracting the shared cache everytime I relaunch it. And even if the launcher finishes extracting, it never gets through the update installation, ever (I have been using EVE Repair tool to update my client for 6 months now). Were you able to reproduce this within the last few days or today on Tranquility? There was indeed a short freeze during session changes on Singularity, which was unrelated to Download on Demand. This freeze should have been fixed about 12 days ago and I am no longer able to reproduce it.

BUT!
There is a problem though :c The SETTINGS are not saved in the local installation, but they're saved in "Documents and settings -> username -> Local settings -> Application data -> CCP " folder on your system drive. This is where cache and settings are stored, including all the portraits and other temporary files. It also creates a folder for each installation! That wastes space due to this redundancy because all portraits and anything else are loaded in there individually as well. So in my case I have the folders: e_eve_tranquility and i_spiele_eve_tranquility
So it would be very much appreciated if you are adding a process to migrate those files into the shared files, AWAY from the system drive. Because in my case both folders are a total of 1.7 GB. If you're merging all account profile settings into one folder, all our settings and temporary data are in one place, being our game folder and not our system folder! c:
By the way? Your new loading boar doesn't look good when starting the game directly, bypassing the launcher :c Not only is it horribly jagged... but... what is the problem of seeing how much progress has passed instead of staring at a never ending fluctuating something? |

Does this new DoD model remove the multiple cache folders and save oodles of space? Nothing has changed in the AppData folder, the settings and cache folders are there the same as before so multiple installs with different settings will work exactly as before.
What has changed is that the game assets are no longer in the EVE install folder but live in the shared resource cache instead.

I cannot find any other posts about this but I know other players have noticed it as well.
o/ Were you able to reproduce this within the last few days or today on Tranquility? There was indeed a short freeze during session changes on Singularity, which was unrelated to Download on Demand. This freeze should have been fixed about 12 days ago and I am no longer able to reproduce it.
Hmm....I actually don't seem to be able to reproduce the issue anymore. I definetly noticed it on TQ right after i had patched my client today and an old corpmate of mine also noticed it. Maybe it was just something that needed to be cached for the first time? |

It seems CCP means that if you use repair tool, it will update your client but trash all the graphics since those no longer exist in the EVE folder. It will mean you'll have pristine EVE installation, but all the graphics will be downloaded on demand instead of migrated.
So no, this is nowhere near as important as the \ in boot.ini (or naming of that file!) since all it does is update eve, but without migrating graphics to new location.

As a player also running multiple installations, I'm having trouble with both launcher and launching the game. After couple failed launcher restarts I downloaded the manual launcher update, ran on on both installations, both launchers said "Client is ready" after that. But when launching launchers from the base file, one was ready and the other one started to download 2GB file (size varied between 1.96-2.01GB when launching multiple times). When I actually managed to log in the the running launcher, game does not start. Same happens when trying to launch from exe file. EVE process is visible in processes in task manager, but the game's not starting. Any help? I'm not really into this stuff so I don't know what to do. |

I'm giving up, I'll just play other games for couple weeks (or months) until EVE will be stable. Couple days ago I've updated TQ client to DoD Sisi client - it took forever (and computer was nearly dead all the time) and created folder with like 150 thousands files (which also took forever to delete). I don't want to repeat that procedure. |

I would imagine what was meant by whatever reply was given to you, was that you can copy that shared cache and use that on other machines, as you wish, but there isn't an 'export last shared cache files' option and I don't think there will be that option, either. Personally, I don't think that specific problem with limited user traffic is worth any of developer time, but in theory maybe if you poke CCP Snorlax.. Something like: when new update arrives, backup of old "resfileindex.txt" is created by launcher and then user can run rescache utility manually, which will compare old and new indexes and create archive with changed files.

Regarding two clients: All clients on the same machine use the same resource cache. I don't really understand, why the 2nd client did not pick up the location of the first client (it works fine for me - and I have many clients on my disk). Check the current location in the setting window of the launcher (it should be the same for both launchers), then you can manually delete the data in the wrong location.
Regarding targeting: Could you please send a bugreport about this? Is it possible that you were jammed?

Just a quick post for the WINE (Linux/*BSD) people....
We have 5 people here at work that updated, and all went fine, except for one minor thing. If you normally can't see everything on launcher screen, you probably won't see status bar for converting to shared resources. Just watch your sysmonitor... when harddrive is finished banging its brains out, exit launcher normally and restart it to make sure all is good. Then life is back to normal. Login and shoot something.
Note for multiple clients: If all clients are in same prefix, it works just like dev said for MS Windows. If your clients are in different prefixes, each will have it's own shared res directory (like using diff PCs)
Will post other info in Eve Linux forum ..... just wanted to put a note here.
See you in space, Ero |

Download on Demand sounded nice, but single files? A container would have been nice. That also ensures all the files are approximatelly in the same location on those old spinning disks... also makes copying the files much easier. For now I put SharedCache Files inside a VHD mounted to C:\Games\EVE\SharedCacheFiles... When in need to update the other (backup) machine, I can just transfer the entire VHD instead of 70'000 single files. |

launcher dosnt start. crash to desktop. i deleted launcher cache and started the eve.exe - launcher starts, cache transfer beginns. after about 2 hours cache transfer i am able to login without any notes about a patch?! ok. and THEN i see the "importent note" about dod and cache transfer, right, in the news... ccp is so great!
login in, start, start, waiting, start... game play, performance, fps with download the whole crap in background - eve feels like a turn-based retro rpg in the 1990s fps is "unter aller sau!!!" fleet flights, missions,... unable to play! every time this "resource loading circle" apears at lower left corner, the game nearly freeze!
later i read here in the forum, there is a opt-out for this download on demand sh.., hidden in the launcher settings. download all blablabla... good to know. unfortunatly to late :( i will try the game tomorrow again...
btw: dont have a highend highspeed internet connection like you ccp guys. many other paying customers too! think about this before deploying the patch?

If that's the case, then why is access to 209.197.2.0/23 (one of Highwinds Network Group, Inc's network blocks) required for the launcher to render graphics, for the PLAY button to not be greyed out, and for the launcher to be able to launch the client?
For anyone else who is behind a firewall with a security model of "anything not expressly permitted is automatically forbidden", here is what you seem to need to allow:
A) 87.237.38.0/23 all ports, all protocols (this is CCP's IP block) B) 209.197.2.0/23 port 443, tcp protocol (Highwinds Network Group, Inc.)
There may be more, but this is working for me now.
IP block ranges are findable by using ARIN's WhoisRWS search box on their page: http://whois.arin.net/ui
In order to get the giant patch and cached data into the launcher earlier today, I gave up playing whack-a-mole with the firewall logs and rulesets, and just allowed this workstation to connect to the world on all ports/protocols until it was done with the download. I hope the next patch day doesn't force me into the same position.

Yes, it would be great if you could get logs through logserver.exe (see https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Log_Server ) and then attach them to a bug report ( https://community.eveonline.com/support/bug-reports/ ).
So after a restart of my pc I am having a different issue were the client just straight up crashes upon login. Bug report submitted with log attached.
Good luck

Out of curiosity - have you set the Launcher to do a complete downloaded and then restarted it? If you are still having the issue after being fully patched then sounds like CCP introduced lag that has nothing to do with DoD.

I have 2 PC both with a main EVE client and a Sisi client installed years ago.
On the 1st I did the migration first the Sisi client last weekend, and did the migration on the main client today. I have ended with a 17,1 GB shared folder.
On the 2nd I did the migration the Sisi client last weekend too, but with the main client I moved the .stuff files and the /res/audio and /res/video folders into a temporary folder to play with the behaviour of the installer. I have ended with a 14,6 GB shared folder.
Then I set all the launchers to download all, and neither one downloaded anything.
How could it be? There are 2,5 GB outdated file, which the launcher didnt deleted, or one client missing the same ammount of data?

I have had problems downloading patches before via my iphone and was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on what's going wrong? It tends to work fine when im downloading it from my internet at home so I dont think it's a firewall issue (I disabled it just in case) so perhaps something with 4G or using a hotspot? Thanks in advance
Also could be provider blocking ports...
ex. was able to update and play on a Sprint tether, but could only play over ATT hotspot.
What was suggested to us, was to use a VPN to our house/office. It was a pain but fixed hotspot problem. I'd run a test, but we got rid of the ATT hotspots a while ago.

This is very much a possibility, as we have not yet put in place the mechanism for cleaning up unused files.

You know what would have been really smart. Making the launcher smart enough to see if there is an existing shared cache or not. Oh wait you nd but it has so far taken nearly 2 hours to extract to an existing cache. My cache has nearly tripled in size, I presume because the launcher is duplicating everything, so fr we are up to 22GB and 49% complete. Shared cache alone is 21.9 GB And I still can't login
Just found the reason (I think) - The launcher created a 2nd Res Files folder inside the existing one. So in fact I now have 2 res folders, 1 of 22.2 GB and a 2nd one 21.2.
My opinions are mine.

I hope you are very soon going to touch it, and touch it good, and I mean that in the best way possible c:
I've done a typo in my last message. The app data for two different installations is not 1.7 but 2.7 Gigabytes. 700 MB are from the "ships" folder, which I don't even know what it is for. MachoNet WOULD only use 240 MB but it has a huge number of files which makes it bulk up to 391 MB simply because of that. And of course there is pictures 821MB (1,08GB on disk) which COULD be the only thing I could safely delete in PARTS... but then again, most of those pictures are going to be loaded again anyhow. And that is only for one installation. The other folder has less since it is not as long in use, but still. That also holds up with a total of 1 GB.
The biggest problem is the diskspace these two are eating. So now that we're at one installation, basically, the only thing I'm concerned about are the settings. I'd be willing to make a clean cut there, IF I know what I can delete without causing trouble.
Can I safely copy the content of the settings folder to the other one, not replacing files but just adding them, and then delete the folder in the appdata of the installation I am no longer using? |

I never got around to reporting it and forgot about it until i patched my tq client today and the issue was introduced on tq as well.
Now, when jumping gates its not that big of an issue as you end up cloaked after jumping but undocking from a station leaves your ship in space while the client hangs and takes away the seconds you may need to get away from station before someone targets you.
I cannot find any other posts about this but I know other players have noticed it as well.
o/ Were you able to reproduce this within the last few days or today on Tranquility? There was indeed a short freeze during session changes on Singularity, which was unrelated to Download on Demand. This freeze should have been fixed about 12 days ago and I am no longer able to reproduce it. Hmm....I actually don't seem to be able to reproduce the issue anymore. I definetly noticed it on TQ right after i had patched my client today and an old corpmate of mine also noticed it. Maybe it was just something that needed to be cached for the first time?
Ok, I have now experienced it again on 2 toons/clients on tq but its not every time I jump or undock, just sometimes. |

If you are on Windows and have the EVE icon pinned to the taskbar, right click on the icon and unpin it. Then try running the launcher directly from the EVE install.

I have a really slow internet connection,
It kind of serves me right, because I didn't select the 'Download Everything' option.
As a result, when I started the game the client hung. - not sure if this is because it is trying to download resources that it didn't think it needed, and my crappy internet froze it, or it was a crap install to begin with. Either way i could not get into the game.
There was no fix for this.
The only option available to me was to use the repair tool, which kindly deleted the entire game cache, requiring me to have to start downloading it again.
Seeing as that's going to take at least 12 hours for me (and that requires no other internet usage), any chance you can send me the installation files on a DVD? It will be quicker and if the repair tool decides to delete all the game data again, at least it wont require another 12 hour install.
Thanks |

For anyone else who is behind a firewall with a security model of "anything not expressly permitted is automatically forbidden", here is what you seem to need to allow: A) 87.237.38.0/23 all ports, all protocols (this is CCP's IP block) B) 209.197.2.0/23 port 443, tcp protocol (Highwinds Network Group, Inc.) Changing the SharedCache directory on the launcher will cause it to download the shared cache again to the new location instead of simply moving it on the harddrive. Also, it doesnt delete the old directory.
This is after you've downloaded the SharedCache once allready.
So, if I change the directory 3 times I'll have 4 copies of SharedCache. |

For those experiencing issues with the launcher not loading properly, or getting no connection to content servers: I found a workaround, but it is RISKY.
Again, you have been warned, if you are unlucky or make a mistake, it may force you to redownload parts of or the ENTIRE SHARED CACHE (~13GB).
Anyway, here we go:
1) run repair.exe (located in your eve directory) 2) let it update itself etc. 3) watch the log closely as it runs, at first it will check/patch the basic client files aswell as the launcher 4) wait until it repaired your launcher, after this it will start scanning the rest of your client files and eventually start deleting your shared cache - ABORT and exit the repair tool as soon as the launcher has been patched! 5) run your launcher, it should now connect and patch properly (do it in admin mode just in case)
Don't blame me if it kills your shared cache anyway, but it did work for me and others on mutiple clients and PCs that had issues. |

Simply copying the launcher files from a functional client did not help however. I would strongly urge you not to do this, and instead simply install the EVE Launcher from this link:http://cdn1.eveonline.com/EveOnlineLauncher/release/EVEOnlineLauncher_2_2_871481.exe
Running the EVE Repair Tool before you've migrated any assets to the shared cache will simply delete them leaving you no alternative but to redownload them all. |

Alright! Thank you very much for your answers through these last days and your patience c:
Are there any plans to merge the application data files, since they share a lot of redundancy as well? Is there a safe way to export the settings so I am down to a single client? I'm not seeing any difference in performance to run both clients from the same installation or from two different ones, other than being a bit worse than before the merging of shared files.
So is there any other advantage to run two separate clients instead of booting from the same from your point of view, or are these changes meant to get rid of multiple installations altogether? |

I see the whole feature as pointless, but regarding my own client..
After the first launcher start, I selected the destination folder I wanted and accepted it, but then it still tried to move stuff to disk C for some reason. Ofc I didn't have the space there, so everything failed and my launcher can only start in offline mode ever since then, I've just downloaded the new launcher linked earlier in the thread but if I would only have 300mb of data migrated I'll likely have to download the offline installer... Because having random multiple downloads is completely inacceptable for me, I can only ever contine playing this game when I control every download it does.

Can I do something like... uhm... trying to copy the settings over from one application folder to the other one without overwriting things? Thankfully i played with this on singularity but it isn't a good patch, yo u get various errors and have to wait longer before you get any progress. If you have a SSD then make sure you change the location or you run out of disc space.
Again with this on singularity it is a lot slower & more problematic than before, today's update sat there for some time before any progress was shown on the download bar.
With internet connections getting faster what is the point of this? |

Hmm, might want to mention that in the FAQ for the DoD client. I can see people thinking the Steam install can be removed after the migration. |

Worked fine yesterday after manually installing the launcher. today it pulled another update, installed it, pulled some mote and threw an exeption regarding missing privileges on the shared cache: Exception during UpdaterModule.Update Traceback (most recent call last): File "lib\update.pyo", line 130, in run File "lib\update.pyo", line 301, in _UpdateResFiles File "lib\update.pyo", line 276, in GetNecessaryResourceFiles File "lib\steps\getResourceFiles.pyo", line 189, in Run File "lib\steps\getResourceFiles.pyo", line 29, in save_index_checksum IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: u'C:\\ProgramData\\CCP\\EVE\\SharedCache\\resfileindex_prefetch_md5' ...
Manually setting full access permissions for Creator Owner seems to have solved that issue for now, but the permissions should normally have been set by the launcher while installing/updating - shouldn't they? Starting the laucher as administrator the problem does not ocurr, but as soon as I tun it as user it is back. Given the sorrow state of the launcher I have no intentions whatsoever to have it run as administrator if I can avoid it. |

I'm going to be very honest... and I'm afraid It may seem like I'm flaming or complaining, and for that I am sorry!
After doing the Initial instal of the new system I loged ingame using the exefile like I always do and everything worked fine... After I checked the game was fine I cleared my cache like I always do after an Expansion/release whatever you guys want to call it nowadays... and my surprise when starting the game using the launcher it started Downloading 7GB of files! I'v read the forums and tried several times restarting the launcher like it was said by the DEV's... but still every time the launcher keeps downloading those 7GB!
I am now hoping that this was because of the fact I cleared my cache and when its done I can play the game again!
Now on a personal note... I do understand that we need to "Go with the time" and many DEV's play Diablo3.. and if they can have an "Active Download" while playing the game thing so can we... BUT LETS BE FREAKING HONEST HERE!!
Do not break what's not broken... we have used the old download system for so many years and even after you released the launcher we kept on using the exefile, the old way... Why?? simple... because it works... again lets not fix whats not broken!
With this I also know nothing that I have said makes a diference and this is just a rant by some random dude on the internet that matters nothing! Once a patch is released that's it theres no turning back...
So Keep up with the good work and cya in space!

You should file a petition (F12 in game) for that. That info is not kept client side so it has to be a bug in the server DB.

For a brand new install, and worse on a low bandwidth connection, this is probably true. Once the install has been running a bit it will not have that delay.
CCP - would leaving an account logged in over night result in the full install being completed or would the account only download a new graphics resource when it is encountered? If not, there should be a AFK idle timer that kicks off a "filling" in download routine.

I would strongly urge you not to do this, and instead simply install the EVE Launcher from this link: http://cdn1.eveonline.com/EveOnlineLauncher/release/EVEOnlineLauncher_2_2_871481.exe Running the EVE Repair Tool before you've migrated any assets to the shared cache will simply delete them leaving you no alternative but to redownload them all.
Ran this link, it worked, needed this before, can we have a reinstall link in the offline launcher please? Since I used it twice now, I would like to use it direct from launcher nxt time. |

I've had nothing but problems with this "Download on Demand" thing.
First, the migrating tool corrupted all my resource files, and the repair tool deleted them.
After, I killed exefile.exe so many times, because now it takes a sold 2 minutes to even load the game, so I thought it froze up. Mind you, I'm loading EVE off a SSD on a computer with fairly recent hardware (AMD A-10 5750K, AMD Radeon HD 8970, 280gb SSD, 16gb 2133mhz RAM, etc) and it still crawls when loading even the login screen.
So now I'm playing on full download on Demand, and the game is virtually unplayable at this point. I have a permanent "Resource Loading" circle above my clock for the past 2 days, and it doesn't seem to "remember" where I've been. I've jumped from one system, spent the half hour loading things, and then jumped back, and its loading everything again, and heavens forbid I use a jump drive, the client pretty much freezes and I'm left stranded at the endpoint with no controls until things load.
The inability for the cache to rememer things is really prominent in starbases. As I've loaded my POS over and over again. PVP is virtually unplayable, as my first encounter, I didn't see a single shot fired, and didn't know what was going on until my target exploded. THEN the cache caught up and spooled and rendered everything at once. Which then caused a serious loop when jumping between systems when the "tunnel" animation going from stargate to stargate wouldn't end. Docking at the nearest station (changing session) did fix this, but in the meantime I had nothing, no overview, no dScan, nothing, just had to guess where I was going.
And when starting, it took over an hour just to load the GUI and HUD, and another to load all the items in my inventory. Station enviromnent still doesn't load correctly (just renders black with the lights), and overall just buggy.
Mind you, I've been on decent net lately, I normally am on 4G LTE, and was also on decent 2 meg internet, but this is just rediculous. I can't imainge playing when I'm in a reception area that gets Edge (128kb/s) or GPSM (56k).
I thought this was going to be an option, not something we're forced into. Now EVE is virtually unplayable for me, which I figured as much going into it. There is much less stuff to render in Diablo 3 and other DoD game, EVE is massive.
I've had many friends with similar issues on landline T1 and fiber connections, so I know its not just my internet.

I uninstalled and cleared all cache of EVE and tried to install trough offline installer.. After several setup attemps, always got at the end of the setup process, this message below:
"A file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file ...eveonline_871030_1.cab has an invalid signature. This may indicate that the cabinet file is corrupt."
After clicking "ok" than the setup was rolling back!
Now to question: I downloaded this "corrupt" file with "orbitdownloader" twice... it's size approx. 1,81 GB ..Total of cab files are approx. over 7 GBs. Cause of my location, I'm connecting with 3G and don't have unlimited bandwith or high download speeds and will not want waist more Gigs.. What can I do? Is any obligation of Virus or Firewall setting ?
I have also other offline installer packages from the past who passed setup process before DOD.. for example version of 862956. But now, after setup of these cab files, the new launcher does not react and stays by update still. |

+1 Pretty much same thing for me. Every freeze I get is connected to that loading circle that appears constantly, wherever or whatever I do. Never had anything similar before in any game, always running high settings very smoothly. The game is simply unplayable after patch. (And I do have download all resources in advance turned on from start)
Edit: there is also thread in Issues and Workarounds with a lots of people having the same issues since Scylla. |

+1 to the very slow checking of the shared resource cache EVERY time I open the launcher followed by an unGodly slow time to the character selection screen. After the patch I actually watched the launcher cycle from "Launching" to "Play" three times because I sat so long I actually thought I was spacing out and forgot to press the "Play" button. Checking task manager revealed the truth. I had started EVE three times because it took so damn long for the first instance to make it to the character selection screen.
Before the patch: Launcher loads, verifies client, login, press play, character selection: takes about 30-45 seconds.
After the patch: Launcher loads, checks resource cache, login, wait, wait, wait, wait-for-it, wait, press play, wait, wait, wait some more, wait a little longer, character selection screen finally loads. 3 minutes +.
Then the new graphic as data is parsed YET AGAIN!
This one may have looked really good on paper but it's a failure in practice.
Watch the resource loading circle in station. ZZZ. Undock, watch the resource loading circle, zzz. Spin around and face the station, watch the resource loading circle. ZZZZZzzzzz... Rinse and repeat. If the resources are cached and don't change every millisecond then why do they need to be checked and/or loaded again and again? Simply spinning around outside the station shouldn't need to check the resource cache for updates again and again. |

I'm sorry for everybody who still has problems and hope these will be resolved soon :c I thankfully had no issues, despite (or because?) running Windows XP and thanks for the quick developer responses c:
But here is a little hope of mine that might come with the way they change to load things; Yes, I know it is offtopic, forgive me, but if we are already at the "download on demand" thing, then "pre-caching on demand" isn't far away in my head c:
I would LOVE to see a proper pre-caching function. When we press undock, for several seconds there happens nothing until we actually undock. I often notice, despite resource caching enabled, that the station model has still not finished loading while I am EXITING. So sometimes I don't even see the station for a couple of seconds still. Didn't I just load that station as I was docking? Why is it gone again? Can't we just get something that preloads and precaches the things which we are about to encounter as we are still in the "undock queue" ?
Same thing with "warping to". The moment we warp to an object, the game already knows where we are going to exit. Can't we get a way for the game to start precaching the objects waiting for us there in a certain priority list? Like, for example, if I warp to a gate. There is ALWAYS the gate, always the sentry guns, maybe police (if you are in highsec). Those can already be precached while we vroom vroom around in warp, unable to do anything. And then the game can proceed to load anything that is still there, on grid. Maybe the things not moving first, because they are likely to still be there? Or starting with the biggest ships first since they are still likely to be on grid as we arrive? I don't know, that is for you to decide. Or warping to a mission. The game already knows which NPCs and whatnot are present. It could load that while we are warping to it, making the transition smoother?
But it would greatly help to react to something instead of exiting and seeing a frozen screen for a bit, before one can actually react to what is happening. Especially in PvP, I can think this would be useful to streamline the process of exiting warp and entering fight? |

Without that checkbox it only downloads graphic items as you encounter them. Likely you were still missing 80 to 90% of graphics out of the thousands of EVE "things". |

Hi
I am having wont can only be described as a major issue.
I'm running on a Windows 7 machine
I downloaded the the on demand update and the main update yesterday through my launcher no problem. Then I was able to log in through the launcher and that was successful. The play button is active and when I click it, it changes to launching then after a couple of minutes it switches back to Play. I checked my task manager and I can see under processes the exefile.exe is there and running at a constant 65k of memory and CPU is 25. I have tried changing the priority of the process and still no response.
I tried it a couple of times and nothing has happened. I have deleted my install of the launcher and client and downloaded a fresh version and installed it. Everything went fine. Still having the same problem. I have ticked the box to get all resources and that has downloaded fine. I have tried clearing my cache and I have tried the repair tool and still nothing is working. I am getting absolutely no response from the client even though according to my task manager the process is running.
I submitted a tech support ticket yesterday about it and I included screenshots of the launcher and the task manager, but I have had no reply at all about this apart from the automated reply once it was submitted.
I am sorry if this problem has already been covered in this thread but I didn't see it anywhere.
So if anyone can offer any advice I would be very grateful.

How long have you been waiting for the client to come up? There could be a minute or two of delay before the client get enough of itself together to actually be up (this shouldn't be the case for the fully downloaded install). If you connection is slow it might even be longer than that.
Have you tried running it as administrator? |

Hello
Worst Patch experience ever.. totally disheartened after a week of work, on a Friday evening wondering WTF can you do to get this POS working.
Steps followed:
1) Run client as normal.. Download patch thrash hard drive unpacking some hopefully GOOD stuff 2) Restart launcher that shutdown after patch. 3) Log-in then launch game... Nothing!
Start looking at forums: 3) Download and run new Launcher as suggested 4) Run launcher.. 5) Await Launcher patching 6) Log-in 7) Launch game .. Nothing..
In all instances exefile.exe appears in process list and then terminates.
So what is next??

Rebooting the client did not help unfortunately. (well.. one minor glitch - when entering station quarters for the first time the textures on my char looked 16bit-ish:P.. but after re-entering it was OK) You reboot the Launcher, not the client. Probably want to shut down the client while it completes the download.
Miss-spelled.. sorry. Actually I've tried to download the full package with only the launcher running. Restarted the launcher after enabling the option, still without entering the client itself, and nothing happened. Bug? I think so. |

I've left it running for 5 minutes and nothing is happening. I'm running at 20 Mbps connection and as administrator and still nothing. I have even tried bypassing the launcher completely and going straight to the client executable but just get the exact same response. |

It was 30 mins before mine showed any indication of downloading and has been running for about 4 hours since then. It has been stuck at 99.4% for about the past 20 mins. |

Got 3 "socket closed " error in 2 hours , this evening. Then the launcher broke down, ( on start up, asking for 7.8 gg dowload). Started the game, with "exefile.exe" Everything working fine.
But launcher still, asking for 7.8/ gg download
Feature or bug ?
Loading 7.8 gg patch, while playing fine with 3 accounts ( well it's a bit "tidi" in delve since yesterday ^^ )

Everything was SOP before I was disconnected this afternoon. (State Side afternoon) Now...
I was lagging like crazy. So I did my usual, delete cache in CCP file, restart Launcher.
Then the snags arrived in multitude.
Launcher crapped out. Okies, download 'new and improved' Launcher from forum link of a Dev posting. Restart 'new and fixed really!' launcher, DL 7.68~Gigs. Okies, restart lancher. DL.... 7.68~gigs. Huh? Set options in launcher to just get it all over with, download all DoD info so I don't have to deal with the hitching and lag moments ingame.
Launcher icon on desktop poofta gone? Pull from CCP file the shortcut to launcher. Launch. Nope, error list out the wazoo. Sigh, uninstall game, suffer thru entire new download of client. Nope! CCP file eats itself but amount of space on HDD remains same as though it's still hiding somewhere. Fine, put back in "seriously, this launcher works!' again, download 3.~gigs, then 2.5~gigs, then launcher icon eats self again, rinse wash reload, launcher says there's nothing anywhere but the space from these 2-7 gig multiple downloads are still missing from total space available on HDD. No launcher icon will stay put, uninstall exe doesn't seem to be in any of these repeat downloads, and game will NOT launch from any location I attempt.
FINE....
A link to something that will strip ALL of Eve out of my computer so I can do a complete clean reinstall? Its in there somewhere, it won't work and it won't come out.
If I can't get some sort of tool or file that'll strip it out of all it's hidey holes it's scorched earth policy here. Format HDD, reinstall. I'd rather not be stuck with a computer doing mostly nothing but updating and reinstalling everything when there's 500 gigs of stoof on it...
I'm a computer hardware chick, not very software savvy, so please have the instructions in "Software for Dummies" terminology.
Don't make me link Iggy McStickson or something else I've saved to make the conversation irrelevant. I have bookmarks and I'm not afraid to use them.

Launcher originally came up with a 7.9gb patch. I restarted the launcher which still gave me a 7.9gb patch. After patching the only way i can get in game is through the exe file. I can start the launcher and it runs through the checking shared resource phase up until about 40% where it flags up an exception and is left saying downloading patch 0 bytes / 0bytes. Don't know if this belongs in here or General Scylla issues.
For years I have run multiple characters off a single install. Since DoD I have noticed the game is really slow to load, laggy and is using far more of my machines resources than it ever used to.
Yesterday I had 3 characters logged in, 1 in space just warping from system to system, the other 2 docked.
Minor issues, that occurred. Getting a black screen for 5 to 10 seconds each time I undock, (28k off the undock before the screen loaded was the furthest)
Extended periods between selection and activation of commands; such as, select gate, warp to and there is a pregnant pause before anything happens.
De-cloaking after jumping and re-entering warp to next way point, a few times I was halfway to the next gate before I could see anything other than the warp effect (my ship remained invisible even though I saw the de-cloak effect)
A couple of times my overview stayed as it was before I jumped - there was an Anshar and 2 proteus on the exit gate, that were still there once I jumped and the next jump indicated was the one I had just taken (24AU away). I watched the gate and saw all 3 jump in behind me, the overview then reset to the correct system as I aligned to the next gate.
The worst thing I noticed; When the ship I was using entered a new system or station, all 3 characters would have the "resources loading" icon active and CPU usage would jump up.
I used to run up to 11 characters at once, now my computer is struggling with 3, 2 of which are sitting in station.
Just for interest sake; AMD FX-4100 quad core @ 3.6 GHz 16 GB Corsair Ram Nvidia 750 ti X 2 (with 4 monitors) 256 GB SSD 3 TB HDD (with all Eve resources)
My opinions are mine.
If you don't like them or disagree with me that's OK.- - - - - -

Something is clearly broken somewhere :(
Every time I start to play eve it takes me about 2 to 3 mins from when I press play, to when I can actually get to the character selection screen.......
...... This was never the case before.
After the initial login (and wait 2 or 3 mins) when I flip toons or accounts, all is normal again.
I have two Box's I play eve on and BOTH are affected with the initial 2 to 3 min delay so it can't be a PC or Craptop issue.
Also, for some reason, we seem to have had mass dis-connects for two nights running now.
Can we please reverse this DOD thing, since I am sure that mass disconnects and really long login waits would put off new players more than waiting for a 13 gig download to complete.

If you are Windows and accessing the Launcher through an icon pinned to the taskbar - unpin the icon, delete it. Now access the Launcher through the install path. If that fixes it, setup a new pinned icon, but be aware that Windows keeps track of a version on the pinned icon (and apparently shadow copies the exe). That's where the problem is at.

I have one account, will never have more, so this is pretty ugly for me. It takes 30 seconds to show info on a character in local. Dragging items from one window (hangar) to another (container or cargo bay say) repositions the item in the same window or moves the first window. Between seconds to a minute to load things that used to be a flash. PVP is terrible. No socket closures since mid last year, now plagues of three in ten minutes at random times. Not even a high end pc. Concerned that checking the 'Download all resource files' will derp the launcher as it has for others in this thread. Any fix or is eve over?

I have totally forgotten to report this but;
Since the latest Scylla patch, loading the client upon first launch takes ridiculously long... like... up to 2 minutes. Loading times when booting the client at Scylla launch have been a bit increased, but it was not a big deal.
But now it takes forever and a day to load :c ... okay, 2 minutes, but hey... compared to before that IS forever and a day! |

I played for a while then went to bed.
This morning I logged in again (via exefile) - no problem. Performance was again fine, except for one little niggle: when docking, my inventory window didn't open automatically as it was supposed to. That's only a small problem, I thought, I'll run the Repair Tool GÇô CCP says that's fine after the initial update has completed.
BIG MISTAKE.
Couldn't get back in with exefile GÇô EVE started but became unresponsive after about 3 seconds.
Same result with the Launcher at first, but after repeated attempts I got it to start downloading.
It says it's downloading 5.89 GB, but it also says that the download is 70% complete at 108.05 MB.
Oh, and it's been running for 8-+ hours.

The repair tool, it's not repairing anything, it's eating something(s) important and making an absolute disaster of everything in the CCP file.
The DoD setting in the Launcher to download everything? Lies. I still get a lot of hesitation while the game grabs the information it needs when it should already be there from the "download everything' setting.
The Launcher itself? It's regularly having mental meltdown moments, trying to uninstall itself (or just plain vanish from anywhere I can find it), trying to download the same 7.68~gigs over and over if you let it, and just being a roadblock to playing.
I've managed to play somewhat today on a clean install by using the rescache.exe to get the download into the HDD. I shudder on what tomorrow's possible patch will bring me when it comes to being able to play, let alone up to normal frame rates. (I don't ask for much in my 'normal', a solid 25-30 FPS gets me by)
What is this thing that the Eve client, repair tool, and launcher have become? To quote Mr. Horse, "No sir, I don't like it."

I have to run the repair.exe almost every day since DoD started. When i can start the game all works fine but next time i want to start the game i need to run the repair.. Then it downloads 285mb and this is getting quiet annoying.
It will either not go past the launcher or it will be launching the exefile but nothing happens so i need to close it down using taskmanager. |

Everything was working fine until after DT today. The launcher starts downloading a patch then freezes after receiving about 2.25 mb. The same thing happens with the launchers on my other computer. After a very lengthy period of being frozen it finally throws an error message.
For giggles I tried running the exefile.exe from the bin folder. It tells me my installation may be damaged and I should run the repair.exe.
I try running the repair.exe and it too ends up timing out with an error message.
So now I have no way to install the new patch, or repair the installation(s) or, obviously, play the game. |

I got the impression it is not downloading things to the client, but either caching new things from the harddrive or loading new stuff into the application data folder. For example a new person that is visible in the top of your local chat list enters the system which you have never encountered before, and the portrait needs to be loaded.
But there is another problem of the circular loading thingie, at least happening to me. When you click on the E menu or hit circumflex key to open it always closes again every time the indicator cycles. Which is funny because it cycles EVERY time for me whenever I go into this menu. So I always have to open it two or three times before I can actually do things inside there. This is a major annoyance. I mean, just as annoying that you're exiting the starmap if you hit escape, instead of going straight to the options menu... but oh well, I guess they won't fix that because beta map will be the new map... |

Hello,
I played last night, i wake up before downtime, open launcher and I get full shared ressource check that takes minutes. Does that even makes sense ? I mean, nothing could have happened. And besides, why even do a full check when a simple version check could suffice. Why not keep the full check for when the player has problems. Anyway, i hope i get those checks less and less.
And btw, if most of the times, launching the game is quite fast, some other time i have to open the program manager to make sure i did launch the game.
Would be awesome if you could remove those issues.
Otherwise, games runs fine.

Today the launcher wouldn't work after downtime, white square where the entry firlds are. This happens sometimes so i tried closing and opening the launcher until it worked. That trick not working this time so used the restart pc, then the repair tool. Big mistake. Launcher starts downloading 6+GB again, really slow. This is bad and nobody's here are they?

Not that I don't trust CCP to get it right, or anything...LAWL, but........
Once I had the launcher running, and the shared cache was correct (around 13Gb), I made a backup copy of the shared cache on a different HD. I also made a copy of the client folder.
A couple of days later when the inevitable happened, corrupted client and shared cache, repeated downloads of 6 GB.... I just deleted the cache folder and replaced with the backup. I did the same with the client folder. When running the launcher after that, it was just a small update and it worked.
Just backup the cache & client folder after each update.
Also, I have 1 PC with a SSD and 1 with a mechanical HD. The SSD does a cache check in a few seconds, the mech HD takes minutes.
I'd just like to thank CCP for screwing up a vital part of the client, when it was working perfectly fine before. Its not as if everyone was asking for DOD.
Awesome stuff.

*reads the current complains before patching*
This is interesting. My computer is super old, and I'm on Windows XP. I bypass the launcher (because I really don't like it for manymanymanymany reasons) and go directly to the executable in the "bin" folder. So whenever I see Eve cannot connect, I close it and start up the launcher for both clients I have installed.
Starting first launcher: patching and "Checking resource cache folder" - done in 30 seconds or so, client is deemed ready. Starting second launcher: patching even faster, and no checking of resource cache. Done in 15 seconds or so.
May I ask, what you guys are doing / systems you are running / that there are such outrageous problems when my potato of a computer with a dated operating system works like a charm? This is so confusing. What is happening?

Well that was a bit of a horror story. After my initial problems I gave up for the night. Next morning I spent 7+ hours trying to get things running.
The launcher would not update, period. It would time out and tell me to run the repair.exe. I tried that and it would time out and give me an error message (repair failed) !
I went to the Tech Support website, followed the directions to delete the Launcher folder and run the new "launcher" file (basically installs the latest version of the launcher). That didn't do anything.
Did the same thing for the repair.exe file. Didn't help (still timed out and gave me an error message).
Tried to do a fresh install. Windows (8.1) SmartScreen blocked the install (until I manually selected "Run Anyway" to force it). The install FAILED !
I tried downloading the "offline" installer. The first time I did it all the files downloaded in a couple of minutes. Ran the executable and it FAILED (told me that one of the "cabinet" files was corrupt) !!!
Filed a petition, attached log files, etc. Tried to download just the one cabinet file that was supposedly corrupt. It started downloading normally. Then it got slower and slower until it was telling me it was going to take 14+ HOURS to download the one file ! Tried downloading from a different computer. Same story. Rebooted both computers (for about the 20th time that morning) and no change. Opened a launcher window again so I could click the link to the support page. While waiting for the launcher to start I read some sports scores or something and a minute or 2 later tabbed to the launcher and to my surprise, it was sitting there at "Client Ready" !!
WTF ? How did that happen ? I tried opening a different copy of the launcher (I have 6 accounts, each set up on it's own copy of the client so they don't all go down at the same time when you get those "Connection Closed" messages). That copy opened and updated itself in a flash, like it used to. Still not believing it, I tried the launchers on the other computer. They all miraculously worked perfectly. In minutes I had all 6 clients on both computers updated.
I have no idea what the problem was or how it got fixed. I'd just spent 7 hours trying different things and had pretty much given up on it when suddenly it just started working. Like someone had flicked a switch on or something.
(As I mentioned, I have 6 accounts, and have them set up individually on my desktop and a laptop. Both are running Win 8.1, both are set up as gaming computers. Both are running fine and had been running my set-up for years with no problems. I hadn't installed any new programs or hardware. All the previous updates worked without problem. It seemed rather odd that I was having all those problems (launcher, repair.exe, online installation, offline installation) and suddenly, for no apparent reason, it just started working.) |

I'm having major problems with the launcher. This is for a new install. First issue was it would download 'updates' but no client. In one case, it downloaded an update and then froze at 99% I finally got it to load the full client (over 7 gb's). I even tried to run as admin. I got it to load once and then it crashed. I closed the game, launcher, etc and attempted again. It first tried to download another update (over 200mb's) I closed it and opened it again and it attempted to download the full client again (over 7 gb's..) The game won't fully load now. This has been going on for about three days. I tried 'repair', no go. Is there a fix to this launcher? I'm sure CCP wanted to improve the game, but these kinds of problems are not an improvement. Any help would be appreciated. |

Well, from last post here is the continuing saga.
New launcher...doesn't make difference. The launcher keeps getting updates, then hangs on 99%. I did get it to go to 99.9.. Each time it frezes, I have to go to task manager to close it.
I followed the instructions for internet connections..
Even turned off my firewall and virus protection.
After countless attempts and at least two pots of coffee, I finally got it to load as I am writng this,
Since I have so much time watching the little thing do circles in the lower left corner telling me it is apparently loading or just confused, here is what it is doing.,
Launching takes about 4 minutes.
Now I have it launched and I am apparently in game. I have a black screen with a chat window.
I now have little people in my chat window but no one is talking...
I also have a little box that says, entering station Otella
Well at least I know I am home but it's still dark. I am afraid to move around, I may knock over a bottle of Quafe.
Does anyone have a flashlight?
The little circular thing in the lower left corner is still spinning.. By the way, I just filled my coffee cup during this writing.
The flashing icon still is saying 'Loading', as if it's flashing is some kind of signal for progress. I highly doubt it, but I'll sit and sip my coffee and take up bandwidth typing this drivel since I seem to not be accomplishing much with fixing this game.
This is about the 6 minutes mark, but being the optimistic type, I continue to watch the little circular thing spin and sip coffee.
I went outside to let my dog out and upon returning there is some progress.
I now have a little red light and some blue light on the screen.
I can't tell what they are, the room is still black.
Perhaps it is another pilot blundering around in this program with a flashlight. This is about the 10 minute mark.
Maybe I'll get some more coffee.
Hold on!..the agents just showed up on the right hand side of the screen! The rest of the screen is still dark except for the little red and blue lights. (No doubt they are Pod pilots blundering around in the station with flashlights.) Well, at least I'm not alone. I wonder if the agents have a flashlight?
I can't believe I payed $14.99 to sit in the dark in a space station.
Has anybody seen my Rifter? Nevermind, without a flashlight, I'm not going to find anything.
Well, the people are talking now in the chat window. I could message and say I'm sitting in the dark in the station and I can't find my Rifter but I don't think they would believe me. I'm thinking is at the 16 or 17 minute mark. But who's counting?
Now I'm getting a 'Shutdown' in 30 minutes popup. Not that it matters, but thanks for sharing.
Well, still watching the little circular thing spin and it's still dark in the station.
Well, I really don't think this is going to work.
And, I'm getting bored watching the little spinning thing and sitting in the dark in the station.
Which brings to mind 'The more bends in the plumbing, the easier it is to stop it up.'
There is some wisdom there but I can't think of it at the moment.

Greetings!
I have installed the new DoD client. The download and installation went all fine and swift.
I wanted to create a new character.
What I perceived, was that I had to wait for a single image ... ... where I can choose the race ... ... for around a minute, not much less.
I would guess that a new player would at first want to create a new character ... ... thus you would include this path of choice into the base installation.*
Because it sucks to wait, if you want to play a game.
I ask you to consider this.
Thanks!
* I really can't stress enough that a new player does not have any other choice ... ... so why isn't it in the base installation? Staring at a black screen isn't exactly a thrilling experience ...

Dear CCP Atropos,
DoD has significantly altered the Launcher and resource files relationship. Moving/altering the Shared Cache path is clunky and untuitive. e.g. when copying the game to another PC or thumb drive.
1. You need to include a Pause or Cancel option to automatic launcher DLs until the Shared Cache path can be re-directed correctly. Alternatively, pop out a re-direct msg for the Shared Cache if it doesn't detect it in the default location. Without this IT idiots will re-download (and waste your bandwidth), when all they had to do was a simple re-direct.
2. Launcher Offline mode needs to have the Settings option enabled to allow reconfiguration. Why on earth was this disabled/overlooked? It makes no sense.
3. Manual path change in settings.yaml for the Shared Cache does not give the desired effect. It looks like the lastest settings are cached somewhere by the Launcher and only loaded & modified on request. Therefore, the only way to enforce a valid change of Shared Cache path is via the Launcher (isn't it wonderful!! yay!). This only serves to re-inforce point (1) and ( 2).

Not sure if this is going in the right area or not, as I'm not really sure what the problem is. I just recently returned from a deployment and attempted to update and log in. The launcher went through what appeared to be a normal update and once it was finished I tried to launch...nothing. After trying to reopen the launcher and launch several times I noticed that even though it wasn't launching the game it was still opening an exefile.exe in the background according to Task Manager. Eventually I checked the forums and found this thread after searching for problems launching. I've done just about everything I can think of to get the game to launch, but with no success. I've tried bypassing the launcher, unistalling and DLing the newest installer, allowing it to DL all resources, etc. It still starts the exefile.exe in the background, but no game. Is this an issue with the new DoD or is it something else? It's possible that this problem has already been addressed, but I only made it through 6 pages on this thread before deciding to just write and ask for assistance.
