IGS...a question has been running though my mind for day now, driving me mad as i can never seem to find the most logical answer to this question...to better explain it i shall tell you all a story about how it came to be...
It was a Saturday, i arise from my bed and gazed out the window in my quarters that pointed directly at Caroline's star, The green light was a beautiful sight to see when waking up, i got lost in thought by its beauty for a good minute or two but i snapped back into reality when i heard my Neocom go off with a alert, i picked it up to see a message that my Warbarge crew requires me on the bridge,
I got dressed and walked out of my quarters with butterflies in my stomach as i ran thoughts though my head about what they might needed. My first thought was "Did we run out of ammo for today's battle?" and then "Did Bravo platoon get redeployed to Intaki II?" by the time i thought up every possibly situation i arrived at the bridge, Walon, my 3rd in command saluted me and informed me of a top priority call coming in from the top brass
I gulped hard as Walon went over to his terminal to put the call though, sweat began running down my forehead as i worried what the brass wanted with me
There was no video feed, just a audio feed...the voice spoke
"Hey Foley its me your Dad here" I replied "Hey Dad" "So how Goes the war?" Said my Dad "Its going swell..killed some federals here and there..." "Thats good....But i just wanted to say im proud of you" i choked on that last sentence and casually replied "Thanks Dad..." in a low voice
The comms were cut after that...the room went silent for a few minutes before Walon spoke ".......Aren't you a Tube child with no parents Foley?"
I said nothing as i realized that i never had a mother or father..i walked slowly to the bridge's window to look out to Caronline's Star, i thought about it for a good second before looking over to my crew and asking in a low tone voice that still had a nervous vibe to it
"Then who was comms?" |

It's the ghostly aparition of the fatherly figure you never had but secretly wanted, Mister Foley! OoOoOoooooo... Spooky unexplored father complex psychanalitic issues! BoOoOooooo... So scary!
As a Psychophysicist I sugest you repress those as best as your inner mental defense mechanisms can! That, or booze! Copious amounts of booze and manly tears! |

Masterfully written, and a deep question. "Then who was on comms?"
A literary genius you are Foley. More people should take the time to contemplate that question.

An excellent variation on a well-told, poorly-written story.
Foley said, "I must kill the Federals!" "No," said the radio. "You are the Federals." And then Foley was a concubine. |

Be careful it isn't a trap.
Your father could have reached out to you in more ways than one but just because you are a Tube Clone instead of planet born doesn't mean you don't have a mother or father.
Often times the head of command in such colonies will refer themselves sincerely as the father of many children.
Also the incubators in such facilities can and are fed by couples from pleasure hubs who sell their fertilized eggs to military branches.
Considering it came from top brass and had nothing to do with work I would imagine you were promoted in a way that does not include a pinning or a ceremony. A welcome into a brotherhood you thought fatherless but come to find out actually care about you like family.
But it could also be a psychological war game that ultimately turns into a tragic trap.
It is up to you to decide or avoid.

Only two parents? Random procreation? Running the chance of recessive allels or unwanted mutation? No thanks. I have the best genes ISK can buy, taken from of the best and brightest the State and Wiyrkomi has to offer. Our creche was perfect, and we had the best families; Mothers, Fathers. Plural. Lots of siblings and teachers and mentors. Arcology life! A huge, interwoven community!
Forget that message Foley. Like me, you have a much bigger family. Get In touch with them. Plan a visit. I'm sure your design team is very proud of you.

I think he is your actual Dad. As in the fellow who contributed half the genetic material which forms your genome.
The fact that he managed to track you down suggest that he might be in a position of power and influence.

Monsieur,
Whether or not you doubt it is irrelevant. Unless I dramatically misunderstand the way genetics works, even a so-called "tube child" must have their genetics contributed by donors: a male and a female.

In Foley's case I'm fairly sure his parents are a rabid Furrier and a hot loaded artillery shell....
