Just REKT my video card. After years of neglecting this feature, I decided to chill in the CQ throughout the day today.
Suddenly video card melted.
Well played. GG.
For serious, do NOT go in there. I'll be back in a few days when the replacement gets here. Fly safe.

Sounds like a bad cooler or bad card because I've been running CQ on mine for over a year. No issues at all. |

Own several different towers on which I've played EVE.
I keep the CQ open in all of them because it makes me laugh. I love the relic of the really bad idea all the ambulation nubs demanded was so important.
Never once have I had an issue, on a Geforce 260, 460, and 660ti. Your card was bad.

I once had a memory stick go bad while playing BF2142. Totally EA's fault.
Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

This is the first post of its kind I've ever seen so you'll have to elaborate and/or provide evidence of this being a common enough problem to directly link it to CQ being the cause, otherwise it's nothing but correlation. Correlation =/= causation. While CQ is somewhat pointless to begin with, it's only real purpose being to be neglected anyway, it doesn't cause graphics cards to melt. You had a bad card.

Couple of years ago my graphics card started to fail I was doing missions and i'd be shooting ships and enjoying the mayhem of the explosions and all the sudden there would be this loud pop. I thought it was the sound. happened several times and only while playing eve. It was the damn capacitors on my card blowing out.
Oh well was an xfx with double lifetime warranty. And the replacement has a double lifetime warranty. It might actually be time to take a taser to it so I can get an upgrade for free. |

Dunno a simple google search popped up a lot of people saying CQ and the launcher are hard on the gpu (no idea why the launcher would be but lately I've kept the launcher open for switching character convience.)
The only thing that has changed in my computing is using the CQ, video card melts same day I messed with CQ. Yes correlation != causation but gaming and video cards are actually related. It is not like I am pairing eating ice cream to murdering people. You are right though, it could just be a coincidence but I find that rarely problems arise out of nowhere.

First you say you've seen posts saying the same thing, now you say you've seen posts saying CQ is hard on the GPU, which is completely different to what you're saying, because you're saying CQ destroyed your GPU. These are not the same thing. Working a GPU to capacity =/= destroying a GPU. And just because people say something doesn't make it true. I'm running a 660ti and CQ ain't hard on it at all. Maybe some people saying it is don't know how to set up a graphics card, keep their drivers up to date, or run them efficiently, or maybe they're just idiots, who knows. At the end of the day, CQ is considered in the game's minimum system requirements, so go look those up, and if your hardware meets those, then the game didn't do jack **** to it.

This, probably. Possibly, maybe. If you have it set to interval zero it pushes your card as far as it will go. I get fps 50 at interval 1, fps 200-300 at interval zero (and extra heating).
I also seem to remember a lot of people complaining about melting cards just after Incarna came out. |
