... would you want one?
Talking about a pure eve connection, no third party servers involved and all legal within the EULA and dev license. (as far as I know. Read the license just an hour ago. IANAL!)
I assume no one found a way yet, because I further assume it would have sparked lots of software by now?

I'll release my testbench soon ... well I hope to, at least. Everything works, just have to wrap it up and think about how I will present an interface that enables even non programmers to use it easily.
Oh and ... don't be rude, answer my question! :D |

It's hard to answer your question when you present it so vaguely. You need to tell us what exact data you have in mind, what do you mean by exchanging it and what would be the purpose. I'm in the process of adding REST API to Alliance Market. Is something like this what you have in mind?

I'm sorry for my language, it sometimes makes things unnecessarily complicated.
I don't know about the API stuff, I yet had no need to look at it.
My question is, if there already is an interface out there which enables players or software to exchange data... whatever ... out of the game. Without the need of 3rd party servers, which could be abused to gain IPs.
Practical, simple example: Multiplayer chess. I actually planned a simple multiplayer tictactoe at first.
I assume it doesn't exist, but I thought I ask.
I'm wondering why people ask "what kind of data". For me, it's all bytes. It's not about the what, but about the if.
Please forgive me any vagueness I might not be aware of.

Well, I honestly still have absolutely no idea what you mean. The reason you're being asked "what data" is that you ask us about exchanging some abstract information, but you don't give any clue what kind of information you're talking about. Are you talking about APIs of Eve and 3rd party apps? Are you talking about something else? Because right now, you only said:

And to that I can respond - this forum (unless you don't trust Eve servers, which would be... interesting). But I'm certain this isn't what you mean and hell if I know what the real answer is.

So there isn't. I'm puzzled about the "what data.", but I now guess context is the issue.
Bytes. What it is is of no matter.
I want to give people the ability to write, example, multiplayer games which players could run outside of their clients.
So I hand you a windows program that allows you to log in and play chess against a fellow eve player, all without the need of 3rd party servers.
The software handles the connection and data transfers, with CCPs servers in between.
My question is answered I guess. There's no publicly used method, else we would already have seen a multitude of multiplayer games.
That's great, so I didn't waste my time with it. ^_^
Forum is great too, btw. I found a simple way to hide bytes in posts, which aren't seen when reading... but that's for later. ^_^
Please note that I only use games as an example. |
