My friend got me back into Eve in August after playing in the beta for a long long time. Since then I have finally reached 2 million skill points. I'm at a point where I feel I being forced to choose between a mining career or combat/ratter. So much so that I've even given thought to a new character design for combat from the start instead of a random selection of what I thought would be neat. Is this typical? If time isn't an issue, does it really matter what you started out as at creation?
Also, is there an applet I can download somewhere to render xml pages on my website?

If time isn't an issue, no, you can be exactly everything in Eve, or more realistically - whatever you want. If time was an issue though, you'd be thinking about creating a new char with better attributes.

I would have to think though that beyond a certain point it is less viable to reroll than to stick it out and try and train accordingly to make up for any loss from creation?

For all you know - his attributes could be perfect...
OP might want to show his attributes and decide which path it's going to be.

I just hit 2 million myself yesterday (yay)
It never hurts to create another character as an alt, you never know when a good alt comes in handy, but personally I'd say if time isnt an issue why start over, just change your training focus. For one thing by starting over on a new "main" character its like you're loosing all the time you put into your current one (at least to me it would - although again your old char could become your Alt)
I say the more skills the merrier, play long enough and at some point you're going to use every skill there is, so never hurts to have them concentrated in a single character. Even if you started off with stats you're not thrilled with (I think nobody is ever satisfied with the stats on their first character after they learn how training works) by the time you train learning skills and pick up some implants it more or less evens out (and personally I'm more than happy to take the flaws with the benefits, makes life interesting)

Lothena, I would not reroll your character. From what you've told me, your starting attributes were as follows: Int: 7 Mem: 13 Chr: 6 Wil: 7 Prc: 6
Your charisma being your lowest attribute, you are suited for overall competence. A worry may be that your perception is a bit low for a dedicated spaceship flyer. I also started with 6 perc, and now I have 22 million sp. You may just consider training adv. perception to 5 just to give yourself that extra little boost.
I actually started with Willpower and Perception both at 6. That means that your perc can get up to 22.0 with lvl 5 adv learning and a +4 implant. That's not bad, overall. If you're looking to be a jack-of-all trades, your current attributes are good.
If, however, you want to become a hardcore interdictor pilot or something similar, I would try to start with perception higher than 6.
Here are your maximum possible attributes (considering +5 implant is the highest in the game right now): Int: 24.2 Mem: 30.8 Chr: 23.1 Wil: 24.2 Prc: 23.1
And those are all really good attributes. Remember, the effect of learning begins to shrink noticeably from the average skillrate at about 16 attribute points. Good luck.
