I hope this is a small part of bigger chage before we all complain about it nerfing hunting. Along with the increased HP boost im hoping CCP have seen the light and are about to:
a)Nerf instas into oblivion (Warp to 15km only, use speed mods or fast ships if you want to move quick let them actually have a role theres a reason everyone loves BS over HACS)
b)Nerf local to constelation based local chat.
And not sure about blinky, blinky bad for lag but ill switch it on and report back.

Edited by: Kin''Tarr on 25/10/2006 00:46:11 yay eve just went up a notch to being more noob friendly, as stated earlier, moving into a system unseen is a joke and if this is the new trend to accomodate people not willing to actually check who is in the system with them what can we expect further down the line? beeping noises ?.
Fun.

The new tags are interesting, but from my useage it won't change things much. All the regular war targets are in my buddylist anyways, so I get the little shiny green tag now when they are in-system already. Even the few that we don't know about, it's only for one engagement before they get tagged up anyways. Now I can clear a few alliances out of my addressbook now and use it for actual buddies, less maintenance FTW!
Realistically, the only change I see is that we will be blasting fewer friendly alts now, and won't be chasing them around the system all the time. Then again, we consider everybody hostile unless confirmed to be friendly.

A person has to set that standing in order for it to appear no? Thus if it's a pirate you're encountering for the first time it will still be normal procedure. Whats the problem? _______________ Sig removed. Please keep sigs to 400x120 pixels, 24000 bytes or less, and related to Eve. -Kaemonn |

Corp/Alliance standings. (I love the change though... can finally kill that huge address book. Standings change a lot for us, updating it has been hell ) |

Local needs to be gone as an intel tool. I hope this change isn't a sign of any decision to the contrary.
I think it's pretty obvious that it is a decision to the contrary.
Removing or delaying local and thus limiting it as an intel tool is simply not going to happen. CCP has had ample opportunities to do this and have not. They most probably feel that it would unduly harm the game play of too many to make such an intrinsic change. It's time to just deal with it and move on.
The latest statement from Oveur on this matter (about a month ago) was that theyÆll see how the new system scanning works out and then turn off Local.
Based on that I hope the current measure is just a temporary fix for lag that is caused by inflated buddy lists.
I have to grant you that it's possible but sure would be odd for them to add to local functionality just to later remove it completely.
The one thing I worry about though is the out right removal of local chat. I feel that setting it to 'delay' instead of simply removing it would be a better idea because local is used for more than just system intel and tricking noobs in empire space. Maybe they will have us all use the Constellation chat channel as Ranger 1 implied but it just seems that the game will lose something when you can't just say æhiÆ to those in the same system without telling the whole of EVE.
Oh and a thought about buddy lists: I'm not sure now if this will truly decrease how many "buddies" I have listed since that also tells me when a target has logged off. IÆm sure others will feel the same. But for sure it should lower the 'show info' lag attacks that happen when local numbers suddenly explode in the system your in.

Now all people need to do is look at a list of known pirate corps in C&P forum, then set them all to neg standings. When we enter local, they will just log or dock, its disgusting ___________________________________________________ I want your stuff |

I'm pretty sure they all dock and log already. The only difference is that now they can do it with out clicking show info first.
further more for those of you who are worried aobut empire wars, you may just have to attack people in highly trafficed systems to hide in the noise.

Personaly pirates make me sick, ur cowardly, sad and kinda lazy (i mean c'mon find a real profession?!)
If this helps us identify pirates and hostile players then all the better. Think of it as a challenge, ur gonna have to work harder, faster and be more vigilant if you want to be a pirate now. I Mean god forbid that u should actuly have to think to be a pirate....

I sense that you have never pirated before. Nor been in any sort of small scale pvp that required you to actively hunt someone.
Am I right?
The only people that will benefit from this is the blobbage and logger type and the people that it will hurt are the small pvp / hunter type. Which is quite frankly, arse about face. The Privateering Life |

CCP you SUCK, get a grisp of what people really want. Local that only shows who talked in the last hour by showing their icon in chat and people u have seen on your hud/overview. And nothing about local numbers are all people wh oare there, only what your corp/alliance has DISCOVERED/scanned for who's there.

i'd like to have a 112db alarm clock sound too when a hostile enters local.. and an autodock button. !!
no seriously. i somehow like it because i finally can delete my 2500+ buddy list and it makes the show info lag go away a bit, on the other hand it really sucks because all those no-balls-carebears just log or ss even faster now.
so what to do? a noob corp alt with a dictor does the scouting and the gang comes in when the prey is caught? burn eden style eh?

This change makes lots of sense. The only group that should be mad about this are those who shoot everyone but themselves. The idea that i was not able to find the standings on a person who entered my system never made sense. This is supposed to be a futuristic setting. We have to atleast implement technology past the 1990s. Nobody should have to contact their corp mates in chat to ask is "jim bob 41" is on the enemy list or not. The same folks who don't like this are the same ones who think we should all line up at a gate and let them shoot us one at a time. Work for your kill folks. And for what it's worth, gate camping for industrials is not work. |

Hmm... as an occasional covert pilot I can see an upside and a downside to this one (I'm sure that half of EVE knows my ship types by now anyhow).
On the upside, it'll help my poor mouse hand as I sit in a safespot and do a "show info" and "Add to Buddies List" on every hostile in the system...
On the downside, it does make lurking in local and enjoying the local chat a bit harder (the IAC chat in the recent fighting was funny in places as people obviously hadn't noticed me)... Not too worried though... I think this is a good thing overall.
Not sure if I'd like Local gone or not though... if we did lose automatic local listings, stealth bombers and cloaks would be more fun, for sure.
I'd also be happy to see instas go and a warp to 0km option (or close to) - my load times would be much smaller if that happened (not all of us can use MWDs or ABs to make the trip... not without losing 80 mill in ship and fittings (covert cloaks have now topped 70 mill)).

This idea is unreal and puts yet more reason to gate camp then ever, also if this is the case local should be either optional or delayed when you enter into it so that people can't see you straight away ! this affects War's and Pirating far to much for my liking.

i was thinking about this for a little bit and a nice compromise (as i see it anyway)
why not have it so you do not show in local while you are cloaked i.e. just jumped in or cloaked ship and you appear in the local chat when you decloak sort of bringing this into line with the ship scanner ie it can see you when your not cloaked and vice versa

this is actually only fair because those player did take the time to list who the like or dont like they should see the ratings.
Its funny to listen to the whines though :P guess it hurts stabs and chat and more on the way !!! maybe being the badas of the galaxy wont be so easy any more ;)

What we need (one or more of the following) to make this a fairer change:
1. An active module that gives you access to local. 2. An active module that allows you to remove yourself from local 3. A delayed local 4. A delayed local (that changes to instant with an active module fitted) 5. Covert ops cloaking removing you from local.
1 and 2 are active so that cloaked ships lose local when they cloak and wont be able to sit in a system scaring people while afk.
Basically with the functionality that local provides you should have to fit something to access it at the very least. The Privateering Life |

Exactly... somehow I have a feeling that pirate corps will turn into pirate chatchannels, while the members are actually in noobcorps. That would be the easiest way around this. There's no real advantage for being in a corp anyway for pirates, unless they are of the empire-war-declaring variety, but to be honest... I can't say I have much sympathy for the latter.
I do think this is noobification, and therefore bad, but yeah, decreasing the need for buddylists and showinfo is a good thing. Anything that decreases lag = 4tw.
In the end it won't make a huuuge difference, but it sure will increase the amount of people gatecamping with an interdictor on the jump-in, compared to roaming around looking for kills.
In 0.0, the way I see it, all that matters after this change is money making, pos-wars and gatecamping the jump-in to systems. You are very unlikely to catch people with pants down in belts/at planets/in complexes, etc. So trying to ruin your enemy's economy by harassing them with ganksquads (so they can't refill their wallet), will not really be possible, the most you can do is make them safespot/go to pos/dock. Not sure whether that's good or bad, because people having more isk = more willingness to fight. We'll see how it goes.

Why not make it so a large warning sign pops up when a hostile jumps into system as well. Oh, and maybe a rule so you can't lock people within 3 minutes of jumping from a stargate
