Im flying a ferox with:
High: 1x Arba Heavy 4x Limos Heavy 1x 200mm 'scout' rail 1x Tractor beam I
Med: 1x Shield Extender II 2x Passive Thermal Hardener II 2x EM Hardener II
Low: 1x BCU I 1x Damage Control I (had the best one, but it blew up, and now its to expensive :p) 2x Shield Power Relay
Drones: 5x Hobgoblin I (6 more days for t2 drones)
Inplants: 3% Shield recharge 3% Shield HP
I have about 2.6 million sp, with most in spaceship com, learning, drones, Missial. in that order. So im douthing if im fully ready to do lvl 3s
Any opinions befor I go and get my ship blown to bits? :p

I've been doing lvl 3s for a couple of weeks and just now at 2.7 mil sp so I would think from that aspect your'e fine. I'm using a brutix so I can't help with the ferox setup but fwiw the biggest diff I found was in the amount of damage that has to be withstood so be comfortable with your tank. Do your intel on the missions and turn down the harder ones until you are comfortable with the easier missions. If you are strapped for isk I'd definitely wait a little to be able to absorb a loss if it happened. Lvl 3s have been very good from the reward and bonus money stand point and it's rare that I don't see at least one 300k or so mod in loot with the mil + loot items occuring much more frequently than I expected.

fit two extenders and three active hardners, and chose those hardners after the mission you end up running and you should be just fine |

Edited by: Shalia Ripper on 24/10/2006 23:59:43 Just be ready to refit at times for certain, dont't get overly attached to one setup.
For a good chunk of the missions, being able to take a few minutes of heavy fire before you even the odds a bit is critical. I have used a Ferox for lvl 3 missions in the past and mostly it was shield tanking that let me survive long enough to get through the first few rats.
Oh, I also gave up on the rails, 5 heavy launchers seemed to work just fine.
I have been using a Caracal for the last few days on lvl 3s. It isnt easy, but it is doable. ;)
Oh, and fit a named afterburner. Many of the missions I have gotten are multi room deadspaces and a 80km run to the gate is bad enough in a slow ass ferox WITH an AB. You DONT want to do it without.

You'll probably want less hardening and more extending. Considering the already-included resist bonus, going resist heavy on a Ferox has somewhat lower returns for your slot usage.
I've been running triple large extenders, and two adjusted-for-the-mission actives myself. Fit a PDS, BCU, and two SPRs in the lows, with 5 heavy launchers and two TBs in highs. (the leftover highs are more taste though, I'm just used to looting everything with a domi, which basically needs no slots save one to agro.)
When running double invulerabilities (angels, mercs, etc) I replace the BCU with another PDS to keep my cap above water.
This setup works with bare-minimum shielding (seriously, l2 on capacity skill and L1 on recharge skill) and missile skills, but I've found that my cap barely holds on w/ dual Invulns with L4 of both cap size and recharge skills. ---------- My sig is boring. |

Ok, few points.
1. I did every level 3 I was offered (Both extravs/MA) in a ferox with 800k SP. Then I did them all half afk with 1.5 mil in my raven.
2. Resists are better than people realize. Passive resist mods with level 4 in the passive resist skill is often better compared to an active resist mod for an active tank.
3. You don't need EM resists on most level 3 missions. Use resists specific for the mission you're on. On a Raven use 4 active resist mods, 2 of each type needed.
4. On a ferox a setup like yours works well, but drop the DCS... it's not very good (Check my sig for actual tanking numbers of tons of different setups).
5. Use 2-3 extenders, 2-3 resist mods in your mids. (if 3 resist mods, 2 of the damage type you face the most in the mission, 1 in the smaller type.
6. Don't run Slave Traders 2of2 until you can do every other mission fairly easily. Spy Stash and Massive Attack may be hard on you too.

This is how my first lvl 3 mission went in my ferox. I cleared the first 2 rooms....... In the third room my shield got blown away and I wanted to warp out.... I was jammed and my brand new ferox went BOOM.
Is anyone using warp core stabs on lvl 3 missions?

Using a Stab on a level 3 is not only unneeded, it is a bad bad thing. You're actually hurting your tank, making you more likely to need to warp out by using it.
You should remember a few more things.
1. Only attack ships from one group, generally there are several groupings of NPC's which can be pulled seperately.
2. Kill ships that block warping first.
3. Use drones of frigates, use missiles on cruisers.
4. Get more drone skills. Drones 5 + Interfacing 3 is one of the best things you can get.
5. Align yourself to a warp point as soon as you warp in each time, until you learn the mission so you can quickly escape if needed.

2. Do you have a help file somewhere that learns me how (and what exactly is) alignment? I know it's important I just don't know how it works exactly.
Untill that time I'll keep my two stabs with me so I can jump out if needed :p

well I just did my first mission, returning the slaves was the name I think. Im still trying to find out if I went well or if it went rong.
I put on a kenetic and exp hardeners seeing as I was going up agenst republic fleet. my shield went dow till 52% then I killed afew and my regen was faster then my damage. but if there was only one more cruiser or so I would have been toast. thank god I got a bit of fearfull and warped in at 50km, that way the frigates could not shoot me befor I took out one cruiser.
so, am I not ready yet? also I used a combo of havoc exp and somename EM missials, seeing as I could not find what damage to dop to republic fleet, did I do that right :P

You need to go here:
EVE Info Missions
Republic fleet is Thermal damage so you should of used WidowMaker missiles NOT Havoc
The mission you had I be was:
The Slaves Must Be Returned
As you see the damage you need to give them was thermal and you needed to harden against EM/Kinetic/EXP damage from them
That was why you had so much trouble.
Hope this link helps, use Eve info BEFORE any mission
Good Luck!

Passive tanks scare me. I never use shield extenders. IMO you would be better off with an active tank. So something like:
Mid: Large shield booster II (gist x,c,b,a, type if you can afford it) 3 x rat specific active hardeners II (If your rats only do 2 damage types you may want 1 passive tech II for the one they do the most damage of. ex. sansha 1 em active 1 em passive 1 thermal active.) 1 x booster amp or maybe even a painter.
Low: 2 x BCU II 3 x PDS II

Edited by: TTIGER on 26/10/2006 03:08:40 ''alignment '' is not a hard thing to do but explaining will be for me .After you jump to mission area turn to a gate or station and double click and get full speed. When you need to warp out click to station or gate icon and hit to warp button .basicly it is getting ready warp out every moment. Use www.eveinfo.com for missions, you can find scramblers and jammers

I used High: 5x XR-3200 Heavy
Med: 3x Large Shield Extender II 2x Inv II
Low: 2x BCU II 2x shield power relay worked very well

I completely, 100% disagree with the setups showing 2 Invuln fields. That is a HORRIBLE setup for a beginner. You lose a massive amount of tanking in that setup... a MASSIVE amount.
Two rat specific gives more resists and allows you to use SPR's instead of PDS's which increases tanking quite a bit more.
Invuln fields are only useful if you're in PvP or can EASILY handle missions and don't wanna bother swapping out resist mods each time anymore. They are very in-efficient and hurt your tanking in all Missions compared to using resist mods.

Once you get t-2 extenders and t-2 pdu's, most level 3's are cake. The only ones I didn't use t-1 invuls were the few mentioned above. Even then it was 1 invul and 1 specific for the highest dps.
Look at those links for every mission. You should be able to tell by the ships which are going to make you *yawn*
On another note I ALWAYS killed the jamming ships first. You can always warp out after they are dead but those ships die at all costs before anything else. After that just make sure your ship is running full speed towards a object you can warp to.

You are absolutely ready with your skills the way they are.
Here is what I fit for level 3 missions:
HI Slots 5x Heavy Launchers (Best named/Mission Specific) 2x 250MM Rails (Best Named/Iridium) MED Slots 2X Large Extender II's 2X Active Shield Hardners (Mission Specific and the best you can afford/fit. At your level you may not be able to use TII or fit them) LO Slots 3x PDS (Best Named) 2X BCU
With your drones and your BC skills at 3 or 4 you should have no problems whatsoever.
After the mission I go back with a Kestrel fit with full nano, 3x tractors and a MWD to collect all that loot you can use to grind down and sell. Plus you'll get the occasional good drop.

That should be more than enough.
In fact, I do level 3 missions in a Ferox with no t2 mods at all, and only 20k skill points in missiles, 8k in drones and 50k in engineering :p
High: 5x heavy launcher, 2x tractor beam Med: 2x mission specific hardener 3x large shield extender I Low: 2x ballistic control system 2x shield power relay

Well, your t2 fit has worse tanking so why are you surprised that a better tank can do lvl3s with less skillpoints?

With the right skills you don't need shield boosters. You can pretty much tank with the ferox and keep your shields at 50%.
IMO SB's on a ferox is bad, very bad. Even with T1 gear you can tank effectivly and don't need T2 gear for lvl 3 missions in a Ferox.
