Edited by: Elrinarie on 25/10/2006 05:31:31 ok.. so I've been around a few months, lost a few ships, killed a few ships.
After losing a few ships, I'm just trying to figure out why it seems that it is much easier to completely lock a ship down than to prevent the lock.
IE why weapon/warp disrupter's and propulsion jamming mods can be stacked but ECCM etc suffers a penalty for the more you have?
Warp Core stabs are now getting a pretty big nerf, so much so you won't be able to use them really for ratting out in belts. (I like the nerf for many reasons in the PVP side of EVE, but in the defensive PVE side I think it is a bit much).
Or maybe I'm wrong, but how would you guys fit out a ship so that if a lone pirate with disrupters jumps in and locks you down before you can even pull your drones in?

give him a good fight, don't panic!
if you can deal more damage to him or he is taken too much damage from you, he might stop and retreat. ((well in this case he does, chase him and finish him off, if he is really solo.)
else, well ...die?
But, if you want to counter the warp disrups, dont waste your low slots with warpcores, imo they are only good for travelling through low sec with gate camps w/o bubbles and rushing through 0.0.
Fit instead a jammer in one of your mids and try to jam him, no jam, no lock, no scram.
P.S: guess a lot of ppl will now say "kill him! dead he cant scram you"

but to jam them you need to target them, and when I lost my domi out in low sec to a battle cruiser (and a friend jumped in a bit later but I wasn't able to do anything anyways at that point) I was targeted and target jammed before I could get a lock.. and was target jammed, warp jammed and killed ever so slowly with drones and couldn't do anything.
just seems like it is easier to prevent someone from moving/locking/etc than it is to load up on things to prevent that or am I wrong..
i'll admit i'm still a noob and maybe i'm just not fitting my ship right.
can't afford another domi now though but when I do I would like to prevent this from happening again heh

Slap your drones out, often they decide on their own to attack whoever's shooting at you. Not the most effective defence, but still a chance.
Fit a bit of ECCM (one or two max) to give yourself a chance to break the jam cycle, and fit Multispec ECM to try to jam back. A sensor booster will reduce your lock time, and maybe give you a chance.
After you get a lock and jam him back for good measure, a solo pirate should be looking at the odds and retreat. If he doesn't, NOS is your friend and drones your baby. Blow the shiP out of them. :D

The attacker is setup to overpower and kill in PVP. If you're not paying attention you won't be ready to counter it. If you're setup for PVE you won't be able to fend him off (probably).
ECM is a chance thing, tbh unless you're going out to attack an ECM user don't bother with ECCM. If he wouldn't have had a streak of luck you'd be all over him, although I assume you're a low(ish) SP player so your skills at just about everything will be mediocre at best, that is one of your problems.
It all depends on what ship you are encountering and what you're flying yourself so there's no overall answer to your question apart from; Don't get caught. ATM that's your best defense: be paranoid, check local, hit your scanner every few seconds, stay aligned and DON'T think that because you're in a (much) bigger ship they won't be able to kill you.

I've seen this before, but I haven't been able to find the tutorial thread that I know exists: what good is the scanner?

Edited by: Simon Jax on 25/10/2006 14:50:29 As a somewhat older player (still under 7mil SP), I have to say that Caleb's videos are extremely helpful. I think he deserves a sticky to keep all his video links in. The scanner one showed me several tricks that I didn't know, even though I had used the scanner to some effect before.
Though if I can offer a touch of constructive criticism, try to avoid "but I'll get to that later" and instead outline what you will "get to" up front. It's not a huge deal, and otherwise you are very concise, it's just a pet peeve of mine from my RL experinece.

yeah he started off by popping my drones first.
I had a high range of nos in high slots, 2 ecm, a sensor booster and cap rechargers in my mediums and armor tanking stuff in my lows.
I might have had a chance if the ecm's where eccm's instead but....

That's because I've made more videos, so some stuff wouldn't get into one video but be used for another one, but still be mentioned in the first one... I think...
But thanks for the recognition :)

get 1 or 2 ECM drones with you and 3x combat drones.
so you dont need to target and jam him, as soon he starts to shoot your ECM drones they will try to jam him as well. as soon he is jammed... warp the help out and dont look back for your babys... as they will not much cost that much as your new ship/pod.

How: penalties (sig resolution and range I believe, never fit them so did not pay much attention)
When: Out in Sisi, in tranq when Kali arrives
Why: hahahaha eve-search stab or stabs and get an oil lamp ready.

Hi,
Thease files are no longer available. I get this error:
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0009'
Subscript out of range: 'UBound(...)'
/main.dxd, line 19
How about posting them to a mature video server like YouTube, GoogleVideo, PutFile, etc.
Elseer R.
