So I gather we get wrecks instead of cans now.
Does this mean that tractor beams will be worthless for looting missions now? Or do those work on wrecks? And will we need the salvage skill (i.e. Survey 5) to be able to loot at all? --------- ZOMG my sig was concordokkened! Link removed due to bad language on remote site. -wystler

Nope, you dont need the salvage skill to loot, you can open the wreck like a normal can and fetch the stuff out, salvage skill is only to use the salvage module :) ----------------

wreck = can with the loot in it (i assume tractor beam will work like now)
take the loot
then you need a module(highslot) to salavage the wreck out of which you can get materials needed for construction of rigs

You can loot the wreck just like a can, and tractor beams work on them. Tried it on test. I don't know how you go about salvaging.

should be fairly (if briefly) amusing to drag around a few BS wrecks in a tractor-equipped frigate ----------------

Now this raises another problem for me. Are the wrecks that already have been looted marked somehow? Coz if they are not and do not disappear like empty cans, looting bigger missions with be a royal pita... --------- ZOMG my sig was concordokkened! Theyre not marked, so get ready to train salvage skills and fit a salvager on your loot ship just to get rid of the wrecks you looted. -----

tractoring wrecks FTL! whats to stop someone killing a bs at a gate in 0.0 then getting an interceptor to tractor the wreck while mwd off the grid so they can easily salavage the wreck out of sight? you usually only need to go around 600km before you disapear onto a new grid which isnt very long in most frigs with mwd and nanos ------------------------- I am a nobody of IMP my views are my own. |

tractor beam pulls at 500m/s, mwd ceptor does 3500m/s min, so, ceptor moves away from wreck at 3000m/s
not really viable ^^^
just had a thought, maybe we could have tagging not limited to gangs in future? that way, could tag all the wrecks you looted or something? or, if your not interested in salvage, maybe pop the wrecks like i do with crap loot cans, shrug, dunno

Anyone else worried?
Looting a wreck doesn't pop it.
1. Leaving loot cans on gates, apparently, is a lag exploit and GMs can come along and tell you to clear them out. 2. Cans actually cause system lag. - What am I listening to? |

It's such an obvious thing that I'm sure they've already thought of that, and some kind of solution.... surely?
On second thoughts, oh dear.

Edited by: Aeon Jonas on 25/10/2006 10:54:48 Since as far as I can gather you can tractor in wrecks does this not mean that the larger Tractor Beams that you see in Quickfit are going to come. So the speed at which you tractor is better and you can tractor bigger things like wrecks as when you try on normal game at the moment largest thing you can do is a can. So i think we may get bigger the bigger tractor beams finally coming out.

I really hope so or if they do I hope they vanish when looted. Otherwise some missions become a nightmare. Illegal activity 1 for a start. I have blown everything up, now I have 20 wreacks on screen which dont vanish when looted, one of which has the item I want. 10 minutes to finish the mission - 1hour playing big game of "find the lady" to locate the gallente light marine I need.

Regarding not being able to 'find the lady' I wonder if CCP in response might have or might add something like an Escape Pod in which important mission items are jettisoned. They currently seem to spawn 2 cans when you pop a final mission rat, so now either its gonna be wreckage + can, which is kinda easy or 2 wrecks?? seems a bit odd.

Do people think the large quantity of wrecks we will get as a result of fleet battles will lag the system the battles happening in more than cans do? Because wrecks graphic sure looks like it will cause more lag. ----------------------------------- Please note that my response to this thread is probably a result of boredom, and its very likely that i dont care, but am posting in an attempt to wind someone up |

You activate the scanner on a wreck and after a few tries an item pops into your cargo and thw wreck goes poof. All loot has to be removed from thw wreck first of course.

Alliances will need better logistics to empty out all loot cans and salvage them to make them go away during and after battles -----

Yeah wrecks can be blown up just like a can if you want to get them out of the way without salvaging. Also they don't draw unless your camera is within 2km unless its a capital sized wreck. This means they will lag only as much as normal jet cans do now. Very well thought out system. ----

Youre wrong. They be rather hard to tractor/salvage if you couldnt lock them

as much sense as it would make npcs leaving just jetcan loot it would mean rigs becoming very rare as u would have to have to wait for a ship loss or large battle for the salvagers to go in and recover all the right ingredients to construct the rigs. maybe the npcs will drop lower grade ingredients so as to keep a regular supply up of more common rigs yet the stuff to get the uber damage/tank rigs u'd need to wait fo ra coupel battleships and mayeb a dread to go boom.
for missions what we tend to do is on multi stage deadspace ones is the combat team say myself and corp mate goes in an dclears the stage then a couple hauler with 2 traccys comes in and cleans that section up while we kill everythign in the 2nd stage then we move ot the third bit and notify the hauler to move through and get 2nd stage stuff and so on.
all u'd have to do if the npcs leave wrecks would be to have hauler going round scooping loot up wuith the salvager followign or just rename the wreck to "Looted" or sumamt so salvager knows whats been cleared, then salvager does his deed and recovers what he needs and they continue till all done.

So items in a former ship's cargo will appear in the demise's cargo can and equipment that are fitted in the demise's ship will not appear in cargo can but salvagable from wrecks? --------- Cruelty is God's way of showing kindness and God is kind.
