Edited by: Aertuun on 26/10/2006 12:56:15 Edited by: Aertuun on 26/10/2006 12:55:49 In addition to the suggestions in this linked thread, would also like to propose something fairly interesting that would add an entirely new (and potentially revolutionary) aspect to scan probing.
Comment: Scan probes should be fun to use, and also be challenging to use.
Comment: Preparation and planning should be rewarded.
Comment: Competing against other players is fun.
Comment: Scan probes should be useful in PvP, including fleet battles.
Suggested changes (in addition to those in the original thread):
a) Increase the flight times of some of the longer range scan probes to the region of 30 minutes to 2 hours. ûor- include several scan probes that fit this description.
b) Make scan probes visible on the overview. Allow them to be targeted and destroyed.
c) Make scan probes probable objects i.e. allow them to be tracked down by other players.
Intended consequences: Covert ops and other recon probe ships would be able to place ôsentryö probes at various points throughout the system. These would last a great deal of time, allowing them to be used a number of times.
These sentry probes could be used to track ships or enemy fleets within their scan radius. A first, inaccurate, result with a sentry probe result would allow a prober to warp close enough to a ship/fleet to launch a second, more accurate probe.
The second probe would be one of the standard ôsnoopö probes, allowing the prober or a friendly gang to warp to close range (depending on inaccuracy) of the enemy gang.
Consequences:
a) It would now be possible to engage at sub-100km ranges to enemy fleets (due to Snoop probe accuracy) reliably, given enough probing time.
b) In fleet or other confrontations, a battle would likely develop between two rival sets of probers, who would be focused on laying their own sentry probes while destroying the enemyÆs sentry probes.
c) A well prepared scan prober or probe team would have a great advantage over opponents who were not as well prepared or drilled.
d) It would add an extra dimension to warfare, and make scan probing a competitive and skilled task.
As said before, the above changes all rely on probes being useful in PvP.

Actually, i would be up for them being totally invisible on the scanner towards other players, and let alone be shootable. The problem with making them shootable is that, they would be useless. They would always be destroyed and you'd rarely have a chance at probing. |

The main problem with scan probes now is that the peeps you are scanning for go "ctrl+Q" soon as they see the first probe on scanners. it's annoying.

Thats why i say, remove the ability to scan and track them down all together. You can see them if you are in the same grid, but you can't see them on scanner as they are too small to be picked up by the scanner. (a bit of imagination here ) |
