Hello,
I just trained the Margin Trading skill to help me placing buying orders when I don't have the money.
Although I have the general ideea about how it's working (cause I'm using it right now), I don't know the exact details.
Let's take a case and study it!
- I'm currently at lvl 3, that means 50% redcution on the sum needed. - I'm putting a BO for 100 mil, 3 months and 5 jumps. - It takes from my wallet 50 mil, right?
Questions: - When will it take me the other 50 mils? - What happens with the BO if i don't have the other 50 mils in my wallet when needed?
Thx,

The first 50m you put into escrow is used up as other players sell you stuff. The rest of the money you pay when your first 50m is finished, and other players keep selling you stuff.
I've heard reports that terrible things happen with you when you don't have the money to pay for your orders, but none of those has been confirmed. I have margin trading 4, and I believe what happens is the seller cannot sell to you and your order is cancelled. You will not be penalised or have your wallet go into negative balance.
The effect of this skill works exponentially so at lvl 3 your escrow amount is 0.75*0.75*0.75 = 42.1875%. And yes the skill at lvl 1 is effective.
Since you have the skill trained already, it shouldn't take long for you to get a feeling of how it works. Enjoy!

Merci beaucoup!
Yep, actually I felt, it didn't take 50% less at level 3.

I heard rumors that you will get penalized and go negative in account balance, but same as you I haven't got it confirmed.
I like not to train up that skill since I then know that I can never get a market warning since I always have to put in the amount I want to buy for.

I heard rumors from the friend of a friend that you will be reported to the SCC and they will come down to your house, rummage through your computer, sell all the juicy information about your trade stuff and then point fingers at you and laugh.
Was that helpful? It's so easy to test what that skill does, it's not even funny, yet you will still rely on rumors. Stories. |

This is incorrect. All you are doing with this skill is avoiding having to put the full amount of ISK into escrow. As people sell to you you have to pay the remaining balance for EVERY ITEM that you buy.
Example
Without this skill trained if I want to buy 100 items at 100 isk each I would need to put 10,000 isk into escrow.
With this skill trained up to say a 50% reduction level then I only need to put 5,000 isk into escrow. However for every item that gets sold to me, 50 isk comes out of escrow and 50 isk comes out of my wallet.
The escrow amount is NOT used up before your wallet is touched.
If you are not careful you can actually run out of money in your wallet and still have money sitting in escrow untouched.

This skill seems worthless to me... never quite understood it.

FAR from worthless. As a trader you can put in buy orders for much more than you can currently afford. Then as people are selling to you, you pick up those items and do whatever it is you do (reprocess, take to another area to sell etc) and reap in profits.
Without this skill you simply wouldn't have the leverage or gearing as some people call it.
