BFG Industries is pleased to present a T1 frigate vs. T1 frigate tournament in Sotrenzur (Heimatar Region). Contestants are allowed to use any modules and ammo, only regulation is that the ship must be tech 1 (not faction or T2). To the winner go the spoils. The tournament will be held on Friday, November 3rd, 2006. Depending on the success of this tournament, we will make the decision to hold more in the future. All fights will be fraps'ed and a "fight highlights" video clip will be posted on our website after the fights. The entry fee is 250,000 isk (to be paid prior to entering a fight). The tournament is double elimination, so make sure you bring some backups.
1st place - a T2 frigate of the winner's choice 2nd place - Low-grade Halo Beta 3rd place - Low-grade Halo Alpha
Poddings will be dealt with swiftly, any loot will at that point be left to the pilot who was podded - the podder will also be kicked out of the tournament. To signup, please reply to this post, or contact me in-game. Signup ends on Thursday, November 2nd, 2006.

The rules are as such:
Competitors must use a Tech 1 frigate. Faction frigate and Tech 2 frigates are not allowed.
Competitors may use any modules they wish on their ship.
Warping out will cause the competitor to be disqualified. (Sorry, I don't have the ability to insta-pop someone like the sanctioned fights)
The tournament is double elimination, so, competitors who lose the first round will continue to compete in a losers bracket, and have the ability to eventually win the tournament still.
Podding your opponent will be actively and aggressively frowned on (once again, I can't insta-pop someone, but we will try to in that case). In the case of a pilot being podded, his loot as well as his opponent's will go to him.
There will be three BFG pilots involved in each fight. One pilot will be ganged with one competitor, another with the other. The third pilot will gang any pilots interested in watching the fight (spectators will have to fly a shuttle). And yes, shooting at the spectators will also be actively and aggressively frowned upon (see above).
The signup fee will be due at the beginning of the event. Anyone who does not pay, or fails to show up will be giving their chosen opponent a "by" on the first fight.
I will try not to pit corpmates against eachother for the first fight, to prevent fixed fights.
Pilots can compete regardless of their security status.
I will have the brackets worked out tomorrow, so everyone will have the chance to know who their first opponent will be.
All fights will last until one of the pilots loses their ship.
Insta bookmarks will be provided to anyone interested in viewing or participating in the tournament in Emolgranlan (for those who have high enough security status to go there), so they can have a safe trip to the competition.
Safe spots will be used for the fights, no one will be at the fight location until competitors and spectators are warped to the location. Spectators will be gang warped in at 60km.
Upon warp-in, the fight has commenced.

I was planning on allowing ECM, as I wanted this to be as realistic as possible. And this is my thinking behind it: Frigates don't have many mid slots, to sacrifice something else for ECM could be a rather huge deal in a frigate fight. ECM isn't all that effective on frigates as the battles tend to be rather close, and optimal is for mid-range fighting. In most other fights, it would give a distinct advantage, but for this, I think it would be a waste of a mid slot.
If there is significant resistance, I'll disallow it, but I'm in favor of simply allowing everyone the use of any module their hearts desire. Feel free to voice your opinion, only if you are interested in participating, I'd rather not let this thread get hijacked for complaints about nerf this, or un-nerf that. I will give 24 hours for people to change my mind on this, otherwise ECM is allowed.

Okay, that was quick. I tested ECM. It's way overpowered, even up close it more often that not jams the other guy.
ECM IS OUT!
So, ECM is the ONLY module that cannot be used in the tournament. Everything else is fair.

I would guess (and hope) that it disqualifies you from any other fights. It's weak. -- Small-time pirate. Upgraded from trial account as of 14th September 2006. Loving every part of EVE so far. \o/ Low SP piracy |

In reply: Warping out disqualifies you from the tournament. If you know you're going to pop, it is an option, but by then it more than likely is too late on a frigate. The point is, if I had the ability, no one would be able to warp out. But, as I said before, this is a player sponsored fight, can't control everything.
JoeT and source, I'm adding you to the schedule, since I am just now posting it.
Its in low sec so we don't have to do silly things like grabbing eachothers cans so concord doesn't blow everyone up. Players will get sec hits, but for most of the players, I don't think it'll matter too much to them. Plus, as I said, we will provide people with bm instas to get them the three jumps from mid-sec to the system without any trouble.
I'm changing up the schedule slightly for JoeT and source, then posting... stay tuned.

The > means the winners fight each other next and the losers also fight each other next. Things get complicated after the second round. Because we have 20 competitors, the winner of the last second round fight will fight the winners of the second round loser fight of the first group. Sorry guys, its the only way I can make it work. But, it'll work.

Edited by: Intigo on 05/11/2006 09:13:37 Are you allowed to change your ship/change fit mid-tournament because of the opponent you are facing?
For example: I use one ship, let's say an Incursus, in my first fight. If I then win and I know what my opponent is using, can I change to a second ship (the ship I was planning to use if I was sent to the loser bracket originally) and use that instead?
2 ships in total, still. -- Small-time pirate. Upgraded from trial account as of 14th September 2006. Loving every part of EVE so far. \o/ Low SP piracy |
