OK...so let's say there's a guy macromining in Empire space (0.9) using a Hulk and I don't like it...so I'm gonna do something about it. I'm thinking a Raven with a Thermal attack set-up since this is a Hulk's weakest resistance on average between shields and armor, assuming no hardeners are fitted. Six Siege Launchers loaded with Infernos and three Ogres in the drone bay. Five Ballistic Control modules in the low slots. Various Shield Amps in the mid slots.
Now I'm wondering this. How long will it take Concord to get to me in an asteroid belt once I launch my attack? Will I have time for two torpedo volleys? Three? More?
Also, if one or two buddies, not in the same corp, target me and transfer shields to me will they get attacked by Concord? Will the additional shield transfer from them be enough to delay my ultimate destruction by Concord for a meaningful time?
Let me know what you guys think...thanks!

Just get a bunch of friends with kestrels. You're gonna need a lot. But it will work. -=Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds=- |

Shield transfer won't help--your corpmates will get CONCORDokkened, and will die very fast. You won't kill it in time anyways.
A better plan is to get a bunch of T2-fitted destroyers with gank setups. Light neutron IIs with magfield stab IIs are pretty good.
If you have a LOT of friends, suicide kestrels or T1-fitted caracals are the cheapest option.

hulks have 150 signature radius, so youll be doing some quite gimped damage with torps that way. Suicide caracals would work well, or destroyers.

a dozen or so gank fitted t2 thrashers (280mmIIs, gyros IIs). Cost about 4 mill each but will do the job. Cheaper than market cost caracals. ----

Edited by: Al Mundy on 01/11/2006 03:11:23 Thanks for the input so far. It would be great to get a bunch of smaller ships together to do this, but I'm not sure that is a readily available option. Besides, I'd love to pull this off solo if I could figure it out.
Evo, good point on the 150 signature radius, but consider this: the Hulk is going to be a stationary sitting duck, mining away, not moving or responding to my attack. I can get to point-blank range...say 5000 meters...or closer or further, whatever would be optimal. Wouldn't torpedos land good punches in this situation? I think I need around 8,000 hit points to take down the Hulk. I think I can get that or more with two Torp volleys if they all hit home. Plus the drones would be hacking away to help out. I need 15 seconds before I get 'Corded to pull off two volleys, I think.
I don't know any of this from experience, just what I'm interpreting from alot of studying of modules and skills. Further thoughts?

missiles don't have optimal. damage reduction is directly related to (explo radius/target sig radius), and torp's explo radius isn't affected by skills. ----------------

I hope you are certain that you are attacking macro miners
I happen to mine with a couple of my alts in a belt where there are known macro miners, and i wouldn't be too happy if i suddenly became a target

Will macrominers attack you if you loot their cans?
If so, that gets you around the concord problem.
If not, free ore.

Thanks, Keepiru. I just got a look at TomB's sticky and now understand the explosion radius/signature radius relationship much better. Now I'm thinking: load up the mid slots with Target Painters to get the Hulk's sig radius up to close to 400...the same as the Torp's explosion radius. Still load up the low slots with Ballistic Controls for more damage and faster rate of fire. That set up should give me two volleys in less than 12 seconds, for over 8,000 damage. I'm betting that Concord will take more time than that to get to the asteroid belt.
What else am I overlooking?
Wildwa, I'm sure these (there are more than one) are automated miners. They mine 23/7, and I've seen them repeatedly enter completely empty (totally mined out) asteroid belts, sit there doing nothing for their programmed times, return to station and repeat, just to mention a couple of the symptoms.
These miners don't jet-can Santa. They fly to belts, fill their hulls, dock, repeat all day long (keep in mind a Hulk has over 10,000 m3 of capacity with a couple of expanders). Kind of the ultimate AFK mining machine. And yes, they have been petitioned, by multiple players over several weeks, with no response from CCP. Banning macromining accounts apparently does not do much for profitability.

The ice macrominers I see use jetcans. I've been thinking of fitting up an Exequror to harvest some of their ice harvesters. They don't use hulks, though -- mostly Macks and covetors.

ok i was in a destroyer this one time shooting rats while some corp mates were mining and we had a none corp member in the gang with us with a few drones.... well i got kinda bored waiting for more rats to show up so got him to launch a drone this is the sequence of events that followed
*locked drone* "mind if i play with your drone for a while" i said "sure" says none corp mate *pressed F1 to F8* "woot rats showed up" i said "quick run fast get away RUN!!!!" said everyone "eh what?" *pop my ship went*
probably took about 7 seconds for concord to pop me after my first shot hit the drone was in a destroyer all T1 set up eanm 1's damage control and a small armour rep
try having a couple of corp members in support ships repairing armour and a load of repair drones you might get alive long enough to pop it.... it's only a 15 minuet aggression timer so if you don't shoot back at concord they might go away or not follow you if you warp out after that time... and if it works let me know :p

Interesting thread as I am as fed up as everyone else. The only aspect that bugs me is the sec-rating hit anyone is going to take from Concord for aggression. And before anyone says ''then train an alt to do it'' I have to ask why should I lose time on my main account character to sort out what CCP should already be doing? Pardon me but its 24 hour down-time and I'm due for a spleen-vent. I will watch with interest because I'm with you folks

You could always torpedo him from max range.
You would have at least 4 full barrages of torps in the air before the first one hits and you get concordokken. That prolly means you could send at least 6 barrages to him

Smartbombing raven or apoc with a big tank will kill a hulk in .9 and take the pod before you die.

That is crazy!!!! 8 Smartbombs will do a lot of damage thats 2400 HP a shot. Theres your best way to kill the macro. Fit smartbombs and just tell everyone to stay backk 6kms.

I went from a svelt 1.6 to a hefty -7.3, all in under 30 seconds!
The geddon didn't last 10 seconds after that.
Thanks Kil for doing the links, a little lazy on this end.
Currently slouching towards empire.
