Thanks a lot again guys!! I think the 3rd one will be a little more concise than the second. while i'm glad you guys enjoyed it we think there was a bit too much of an information barrage.

The reason we don't talk about frigates is partly because we don't fly them, as MS said. However, we also both think that frigates are actually not a good way to start solo pvping - virtually your only targets are other frigates, and often fights are over so quickly that it's hard to critique your piloting/know what you did wrong. Some people really enjoy frigate pvp, but I think of it as a different kind of pvp entirely - it won't really help you much with learning to fly bigger things.
As for low skillpoints, that's a more difficult question. Cruisers (rupture, thorax/vexor now too) are a good choice for 0.0 flying, as you can take on multiple frigates or learn to pick little things off larger gangs. You can also kill a lot of recons with them. But I think really battlecruisers are the best place to start learning solo pvp - even a cookie cutter hurricane or drake can give you a LOT of options for solo and take relatively few points to get into. Just make sure you have BC 4 and t2 medium turrets. I like to recommend Zach Donnell's solo4lyfe for some examples of what a solo hurricane can do. |

Checking in to say that i really liked the second episode. Nothing really new for me there, but its interesting to see a perspective of competent pvpers. May even get me to solo in something bigger than a slicer
For critique - you did mention your youtube channel. When posting a new episode you may want to include links to relevant fraps (if any) /killboard BRs. |

I am enjoying this podcast very much!
whats so good about it is that u both know how to lay down the situation good enough that you dont need the vid to know what you are talkin about. and you explain it all so clearly. very nice
greetings,
kitty
p.s. a good name for this bit might be: "Pvp Standoff PodCast or PSPC" |

A really enjoyable and useful podcast. I especially enjoy the first section looking at the decisions made during a fight, discussing other potential options, why they weren't chosen. Also the honesty of it :- "Yeah, that could have worked, and we didn't think of it."
Refreshing.
Keep it up!
Only suggestion for a name that I can come up with off of the top of my head is "The Club Bear Lounge"... |

I've enjoyed listening to your podcasts but I disagree with saying not to fly frigates to learn. The most successful pilots in genos and podla started out by soloing in frigates and we still fly them occasionally.
P.S. call it "Bringing Solo Back" |

Yeah I wasn't going to hi-jack the thread, but I think the 'best' ship class to learn in really just comes down to preference... I think my first 100+ kills were in an Ishkur
Regardless, I thoroughly enjoy these! |

I'm not questioning the fact that most of us did indeed start in frigs, and it gives you a solid handle on some aspects of eve pvp. I'm not hating on frig solo at all, if people prefer it then that's what they should do. I just think a lot of the things that are key for bigger ships don't really come into play and thus must be learned flying bigger ships. |

The more I think about this project, and your YouTube videos, the more I think it's pretty ingenious. The biggest complaint of PVPers is the difficulty of finding "good fights." So, now you're teaching people to fit for and find good fights. Which, in turn, teaches them how to provide good fights!
Pretty neat. I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs. |

Inspired by your podcast I refit two hurricanes I had sitting in Jita and set course for null.
The first one quickly died in a fire...
The second one managed one, two (afk in sanctum) and even three kills before meeting its doom.
Fun was had, isk was made (faction module drops \o/) and experience was gained.
Thank you for producing this podcast! |

This has to be one of my favorite pieces of feedback I've ever received.
Nice job on the kills, I wish you many more.

I've died horribly 8 times in lowsec in the past two weeks.
Mind you I've been pvping for around 6 years now, so I guess I can't really blame it on you guys. ;)

I'd recommend using your youtube content to allow listeners to follow along with your discussion on fights, as its easy to lose track of what's going on with a verbal description (you can't read back up as with a written report, or see the visual clues as with a traditional commentary).

I think I enjoyed episode 3 the most so far, possibly cause I'm a big fan of active tanks myself, but I think you guys are starting to get more comfortable too :)
Stop worrying so much about length and going out on tangents IMO. I'm a lazy programmer so I would totally listen to an 8 hour podcast, and I guess when the topic is interesting enough it doesn't matter much that you rabble on for hours (but I guess 1.5h is about what you ADHD kids out there can handle huh? ^^). That said I think active tanking couldhave a part 2 or at least a follow up since it's a pretty big deal.
Lastly THANKS TO YOU GUYS, I'm going to bring that brutix out for a spin when I get home :) |

Love these podcasts keep em coming guys, even though I've been at this a while you've definitely put more thought into a lot of it than I have and it helps all of us in the end. Really enjoyed episode 3 for two reasons:
1) I have liked active tanking in small gangs for a long time, despite objections
2) I'm mentioned, sort of...The high alpha Tier 3 battlecruisers in Amamake...I was the Oracle.
Looking forward to more podcasts and videos. |

Loved the info about active tanking, though I'm probably going to need to cross train to Amarr / Gallante in order to give it a go; Minnie cruisers / BCs just don't seem as suited, and I can't fly the Sliepnir... |

Just listened to the first, really enjoyed it.
I found the section where you described a particular fight, and then ran through both of your thoughts/actions/options at key moments actually very interesting.
If you combined that with video footage, pause the fight, run through your options etc, move the fight on and see what the actual result was - I think that could be really powerful tool for new and old pilots.
Obviously choice of fight to use would be important, but I'm sure you'll be able to find ones that suit individual points you want to make.
For instance: Land on gate - Pause video talk about target calling - Kill a ship, you're at 50% hp - Pause video talk about when/whether to disengage/how to disengage/risk assessment. etc etc.
TLDR - Good examples of concepts and visual input are important to learning, and will make it more powerful than it already is.
Cheers lads, good stuff.

@Laktos - I really your idea. I agree that morale is one of the most challenging parts of being a small scale pvper. I'm gonna see if I can think of enough content to make this the focus of the next episode. Thanks for the idea =)
@Fellblade - I guess I'm open to that, but I don't know what would be involved in getting it setup and it sounds annoying to spend time working on that when I could be working on more content. Also, while visibility is good, it seems like word of mouth is carrying us pretty well so far =) |

The cyclone is still a really good option I think. I know it has kind of gotten a reputation from people using crystals/t3 booster and going god-mode (garmon et al.). but I'd say most people will still greatly underestimate it, not unlike the ferox. It just needs ample gun, HAM, shield, drone skills to fly. |

Just heard ep3, good job guys. Alot of good points, dont have anything to add.
One thing I noticed though is that you're always very quick to agree on everything or assure each other that what you just said is right. I wouldn't mind if you got into discussion with each a bit more often, since there are alot of questions that don't have definite answers and you might have different perspectives on them. Right. But then again, it's crucial not to make it the other way round with too much disputes going on live, which is always a nightmare for the 3rd parties :)
D/Ling volume 3, I'm sure it's worth listening instead of my regular music or podcasts on politics. 2008, CCP Zulu(park): "command ships are fine as is" 2011, CCP Greyscale: "is the Nighthawk actually underpowered?" Nice progress, guys. |

Listened to first podcast when it first came out and loved it. I then promptly got into other things and forgot about this thread . DL'ing the 2nd and 3rd ones now I'm sure they will be great to.
Also just wanted to add that I to started solo pvp in frigs and loved it, still do run around in them from time to time. But I also agree that cruisers and up is a different pvp style. I think frig pvp got me used to losing ships as well as refining my d-scan skills. Also Laktos said it right, I know I have had issues in the past with morale getting low from either finding no targets or to many falcons/blobs.
Looking forward to more of these as I am still a nub to solo and these have got some great info's ..
