I have a goal in mind here, I want to get to a point I can take a Titan into .4 space to mine...
No, I can't fly a titan yet, that will come with time, but I would like to mount a pair of Capitol Class Mining Lasers on the titan (make short work of those asteroids) before I go...
My question is how do I go about making (research?) that capitol class mining laser? Noob in training...

Ugh, okay. Take a step back and get more acquianted to the game.
You can't research a module that doesn't exist, when researching comes in you'll be able to upgrade "basic" modules to their "elite" modules which already exist in the database.
Secondly in getting a titan the price tag isn't a problem, it's the seller problem.
Now if you want to be an nber miner I would suggest you start training up for the hulk and joining a mining corp once you get a covetor or something. BSs also can mine nicely, but the mining barges blow them out of the water.

You must not realize the scope of what you are saying. Once you are a few months older, you will look back on this post and ask yourself "Why did i ever say i wanted to fly a titan!? In .4!?" I remember my first week of playing I put up a thread askign for a guardian-vexor mining setup.......
But seriously, theres alot more to it than you think.
The game has been out for 3 years, and currently only one person flies a titan. Unless your in an alliance that can produce in excess of 100billion isk,........
I suggest setting your goals a lil smaller, if your really into mining, train for a hulk

I don't remember talking about this in the help or noob channel, but I did mention it on these forums (Thread about why folks Pod others in the new to eve forum)
To the others, thank you for your replies, I do admit I have a lot to learn about Eve... one thing I do not need to learn about are setting goals to work toward (ok, I may need to learn to set them a bit lower)
As for the lack of a capitol class mining laser, in the time it takes me to get into a Titan, there is a chance that they will have been added to the game... but working toward flying a Titan sounds like a good goal... and I am only a few years away from realizing that goal... by then I may even be able to build my own (another lofty goal). Noob in training...

Miner Superweapon: Turn a planet or moon into an asteroid belt.
Warning: Using this weapon will cause your titan to be blown up by a noob in a Rifter a few weeks later. He'll say something about it being "just like shooting womp rats in Beggar's Canyon back home."

I see this a lot in the npc corp channel. People think Titans are like reaching the highest rank in WoW or something...its very different. You cant even move around in a Titan without help from your gang mates.
Oh well. You'll see what I mean with time. :)

They ARE in the game. ASCN has one.
But you're totally missing the scope of what it takes to construct one...even if you had 160 billion ISK in your wallet right now, you can't just buy one on the market.
ASCN has thousands of members, and getting the titan was still a major undertaking...
If you want to fly capital ships, you'd be better off aiming for dreads/carriers. Should be about a year of training to start from scratch, and will only run you a couple billion ISK (plus they are actually available to purchase).

A titan is an alliance-level goal, not a solo or small corp goal. Even some of the biggest corps in eve could not muster a titan nor protect it if they needed to. They can't dock, they can't use stargates, they can't be constructed anywhere but at a Capital shipyard POS in 0.0, they require enough components hauled TO that POS to make anyone cry and you can't offload them at a POS with a freighter, you have to do it with standard haulers.
Not only that but you can't move the thing without a gang mate to launch a cyno field for you, it can't go in high security space and the bottom line is that it is NOT designed for mining and there will almost certainly not be a capital mining laser in the game. If there is, it will probably be for a new specialised ship and not the titan.

Yeah, I have read all the titan horror stories, or at least a good number of them... I see Titans as the top of the mountain, the biggest of the big... something that people look at as the pinnacle of the combat vessels... with parking problems.
But everyone knows a titan, it is a sterling example of the excess that folks can go to... hence it becomes the example to use when going to that excess. Noob in training...

The problem with mining in a titan is this, for 160 billion isk why would you want to mine? Most players mine when they start the game and look for ways to get better and faster, however, mining gets old, and eventually these players USUALLY branch out their skill trees to include combat and whatnots. I guarentee that there are many things that earn more money then mining, and that is why i buy all my minerals now. I simply make more money buying minerals then I do mining them. I can also build stuff and run missions (or hunt in 00) for a LOT MORE ISK then mining can produce.
ANOTHER VALUBLE LESSON is this. Titans may have superweapons, but the reason titans have superweapons is because they were never made to see battle. Consider the scenario of an alliance fleet made up of the standard blob of battleships, perhaps a carrier or 2. You come accross a similarly sized blob of battleships and whatnots, but they DONT have a titan, the titan pilot is a deuch and thinks to himself OMGPWNSOR i will use my SUPERWEAPON!!! sure all the other fleets ships BS sized or smaller will go boom, BUT SO WILL YOUR FLEETS! The titan superweapon is a last ditch weapon to try and survive an attack, for the most part its not intended to BE IN BATTLE . TO further accentuate this, that is the reason why the titan superweapon can be used on the other side of a cyno field.
This may seem off topic but I PROMISE i have a point. If you by some wierd miracle ended up with a titan and planed on mining with it, every glory seeking corp would be hunting you down everywhere you went until you were dead and all 160B+ was waisted JUST FOR GLOATING RIGHTS! Big ships = big targets = Big EGO.
ALSO a single dred would beat a titan in a fight, you can thank siege mode for that.
Anyways I am not posting all this to criticise you or your thoughts I spend a lot of time educating the noobs in my corp about many things. If you dont believe anyone here though I highly suggest that you persue your goals, I assure you it wont be a waist of time, it will be a learning process as you go, and I am sure that you will understand what we all are saying LONG before you ever fly a titan :)

Whats the purpose of a Titan may I ask? Is it just to be a massive gang warfare machine for a fleet? Scourge of the asteroids. |

It makes the gang stonger like a command ship, can tank like a carrier, has a massive weapon, can at some point use jumpdrives that carry fleet ships through not your own,can be docked in etc etc...

Edited by: Galen Silas on 06/11/2006 21:22:41 I wouldnt restrict this to just titans if it ever became something, would be nice on a carrier as well. Getting a carrier is more realistic than a titan to begin with and on the carrier you get the gang assist module bonus just like on the titan except one more per lvl, but thats only for the mothership.
I can see where this would be helpful, if you had a carrier with the mining lasers and mining drones you would actually be racking in some serious ore, and you would also (if your smart enough) have fighters to spare in the drone bay just in case you came across any hostiles. It does have its cons too, a lot fo pvp people would think this to be pretty lame, and of course just tell you to train for a hulk and buy one, well i don't think all fo them look at what you can do with a carrier mining. Sounds good to me m8, they should put that in the game, along with Capitol NOS

I am going to make a prediction.
You, like 99.9% of EVE's players, will never fly a Titan.
Why? Because it requires thousands of man-hours and intensive team work on a massive scale to construct one. Its that simple.
If you're lucky and you work hard, you might fly a dread. Get training :)
