Hello there,
Being a new player on EVE is not a new issue for me. The reason is that I have made new accounts several time and not finished to play the first month. The reason is pretty simple: I found sometime stucked in game with missions that are far too hard to me. This time I got a brand new Amarrian frigate with poor shield and hull. I normally make some courrier and bounty missions to mine agents with no problem but whenever I have to make missions related to the game plot I get frustrated by the two shot killing that some pirates due on my ship. I found few tactics usefull in some occasion (hit and run mostly) but for that missions nothin seems possible to me. Beside of the help I can ask to trained and skilled player with huge ships (which seems to me to exploit the game) I found very hard to seek "rookies" like me to complete the same mission. Do I make some mistakes? What happens if I miss the accomplishing of a story related mission? Have you some suggetion (or link to readable material) on how to face against 8k and more IFK reward's pirates? Thanks a lot.
Ciao.

Hold a second...
You are doing courier missions, but are they from an agent or from the mission tab located on the right if you're inside a station. If it's the latter then those are playermissions, they are player generated and will probably guide you through lots of low sec. This is where pirates hang out and that's where they kill you.
Can you explain a bit more about what you're doing?

Edited by: TTIGER on 06/11/2006 15:54:56 Hi caleb ,i guess Ni marrach using an personnel or administrative agent give mixed missions (courrier +kill)
First if youll use amarr ships youll need mechanic, hull upgrades and repair systems skills and some hardeners. Second which npcs you are fighting ,angels will be pain for amarr with em/thernal damage you are doing and they do exp damage mainly your weakest resist
Do you make mistakes ?no idea give me a shoot in game ill come to look. what lvl agent are you using atm? training caldari cruiser and bc for lvl2 and 3 missions may be good idea if youll do missions

Here is few in details. Sorry. After the rookie ship I have bought a brand new Executioner (Amarr frigate). I have choosen that one because of the speed it can reach (500 m/s with AFB) and it look very trendy to my eyes. Weak point is mostly the lack of turrets for missiles (zero) and a poor Power capacity (MW). I have moved from my starting point where the mission was for all but my corp (NPC corp) to one base of my corp where an agent give me missions. Most of them are courrier missions and some are killing. That were quite affordable with few hit and run. Recently I have received an email from somebody (NPC) asking to help him to remove few pirates and resque a crew of a ship. This is claimed as IMPORTANT MISSION in the missions book and related to the game plot. Is nothing given from other players, is given by NPC. This mission ask me to kill pirates then to move to another location (deadspace) where to kill again. It does it three times with affordable rats. The fourth wave starts with five pirates rookies launching me missiles which kills me in few hits if I do not escape quickly from them. This is getting frustrated because I have found no way to kill them without to die and the hit and run does not works properly because when I return their shields are up again and no damage on the hull. I have however managed to kill one out of five (they are in three/four groups of five pirates), but it takes way too much time to kill 'em all without to logoff. Once I logoff and on again (says after few hours) they are all respawned and I have to start again. This is what it makes me frustrated by the game. Maybe I have to change the ship with a better hull or with turrets but I was especting all the ships to be at the same level at least the lvl2 frigates. I can't recall the name of pirates from here at work but surely their missiles are painfull for my noobish amarrian ass.
Sorry for my english.

Well, the first though that comes to mind is that even for myself, I'd find killing stuff in a paper-thin Executioner to be difficult (or take forever), so I don't know how bad it would be for a newb. Have you thought about changing your tactics to favor the Punisher, far better armor and damage potential you know .

you have a storyline mission ,youll have a storyline at every 16 mission you have completed. You logoff?why ,warp to a station and comeback later (when you repaired your armor and give me a call when you logged

Is the important mission by any chance "Worlds Collide"?
I think it's possible by fitting an afterburner and just running through the gates trying to avoid fire, grab the crew and run home. However, generally for combat missions you're much better off in a Punisher.

Nothing really happens if you fail a storyline mission, except that you loose standing with the faction. On the other hand you gain standing by running more missions, so making a new character just because you cant do a certain mission is unwise.
Some missions might be hard with low skills and a bad ship, but in a few days you could probably do it. Train relevant skills, buy a decent ship, put some thought into how you fit it.

Just like any PC game with combat, you must simply make sure you are ready before attempting it. Be it skills, better ships, or just simple hints on how to complete it.
There are definitely a few level 1 missions that would be difficult (or impossible) for a new player with very low skills to complete in a low-end (or even high-end) frigate. ESPECIALLY storyline missions.
So it *sounds* like:
a) you have either the wrong ship completely, b) perhaps very poor skills to fit the ship, c) you have the skills, but haven't the slightest clue how to set your ship up (i.e. correct modules for that ship).
As a general hint, for Level 1 missions, I did most of them in a frigate, but used a destroyer for the famous worlds collide mission, and ended up doing most of the rest of the missions in a cruiser. But that was too easy (in the cruiser). A destroyer is the way to go.
For level two missions, I did many with a cruiser, but some did with a battle cruiser. Again, probably too easy for a battle cruiser, but my skills were too low.
Now I'm using a battlecruiser for L3 missions, and since my skills are much better, I'm not having any problems.
Ultimately, if you think you can just hop in any frigate, and complete all the missions in the game, you're really underestimating the game's complexity, and what you need to know to be a good pilot.
Lastly, in the forums here under missions, there's a lot of helpful hints to get you through the tougher ones.
Hope this helps.

I think the Mission is called "Encounter" and the 3rd or 4th room has some missle flinging Merc's that will tear you up at range (they reach out to 12km or so)...
It is very hard to do in a Frigate, hard in a destroyer... Makes friends with someone that has a Crusier if you have not reached that level yourself.
I have not been playing that long, so I have no real advice for you, but I understand what you are going through, I lost my first 2 destroyers on this mission... then I bought Rail Guns and a asked a friend to help...
Long Range is your friend, as are Drones... anything that keeps you out of range of those missles. Noob in training...

I cannot recall the mission name but I can say I have solved the problem with the huge help of a mate (TTIGER) who helped me in something that is really not made for a frigate alone. By the way I am learning from all of you in game and not. Thanks!
