I have a Cingular TDMA phone, and need to upgrade to a GSM phone rather soon. I was hoping to delay the purchase until EvE-Lite came out, so I could be sure to buy a smart phone that would be compatible with it, but am running out of time.
Is there an ETA for EvE-Lite, or at least a technical spec for it so I know what type of phone to buy to be able to run it. Right now all we know is Windows Mobile 5. And even then there is allot of other details unknown. Will we need a stylus or other pointer input. Will we need a full interface and or smart phone?
I am just trying to make sure that when I buy my next phone it will be able to run EvE-Lite... and help here pretty please?

ooh oooh i have a question too...
I've got one of those Nokia N73's - it has a symbian OS. Is that similar to windows mobile? Well, the question i would like answered really is whether or not it will run on my phone.
Excuse my lazy typing today, i'm shattered.

symbian is a different OS, but it is just as wide spread, so they will most likely develop eve lite for windows and symbian

CCP, I believe, is a windows development house... so writing an application for Windows Mobile is probably the easiest for them, and would probably be first. I don't think they are specifically going for market penetration for their EvE-Lite app, but for ease of development. If they wanted to make it portable they would have coded it in Java ME.
That being said, I don't care if it is Symbian, WinMobile, Java, or BREW... i would just like to know what the minimum system specs are for it so I can buy a new phone and be EvE future proof. For me, a phone is just a phone, I use it to dial numbers and to talk... EvE-Lite is the first use of a phone I might have beyond that.

I thought the DEVs said it was only going to be Windows Mobile, but I would also like an update on this as I just got a new Dell PDA.

Bummer I am dying to get the EVE-Lite client. And yes, they plan it for WM5 last I checked.

CCP should make a Symbian and / or Java client.
Symbian being the #1 smartphone O/S - far outsells microsoft mobile platforms.
Even better, a Java client so almost all decent phones could use the Eve client.
Restricting the Eve client to microsoft only only benefits the very very few out there.

I'd like to see web interfaces for EVE stuff.
If I could change my skills or make some purchases through a web browser, I'd be in heaven.
Even better would be if they just exposed XML RPC APIs to these things and let people go hog wild with them. -------------------------------------------------------- Working towards my own personal Dreadnought, one ISK at a time. |

Edited by: Quutar on 06/11/2006 21:24:14 it depends on the purpose of the EvE-Lite client.
If the EvE-Lite client is meant to provide an external and portable view/access of/to the EvE game while requiring the minimum of resources to develop, then doing a pure Windows Mobile application fits that bill, since they already develop with Visual Studio.
If the purpose is to create a mobile phone/pda client that will penetrate the maximum amount of the user base, then I could understand going with Symbian or JavaME.
Basically... if the EvE-Lite client is free... then Windows Mobile makes perfect sense. If they are going to charge for EvE-Lite then they should target the largest audience they can. It looks like they will have a SOAP (a form of XML-RPC) interface to their backend servers, which the Windows Mobile client interacts with, so if the EvE-Lite comes out, they could always make other clients that interface to the same gateway.
