Edited by: HongHi Choi on 07/11/2006 11:24:13 Just got to lvl3 missions. Flying a ferox. Took care of 1/2 something with blood raiders and slaves. No big deal realy. Started the second part. A little harder, but still Ok. Then I warped with a warp gate and the moment i was in the deadspace, THE FIRST SECOND, i was at half hull hit points. That is 9700 (with my skills) damaga in the moment i arived. Needless to say, i exploded in the next second. I went back in a shutle to see what hit me and exploded again, but this time slower. A bug, maybe? Should i report this or should it be this way. My fit(..just to clear out..): hi 2x assault 3x heavy med 1x med.sh.boost. 2x large.sh.ext 1x 'shade' white noise 1x 10MN AB low 1x damage controll I 1x nanofiber 1x balistic controll 1x warp stabilizer
Just to add, later when i went back i stayed, a little longer to see what hit me. There were two cruisers (or some kind of medium ship - slavers) and four sentry guns, reeeealy close to me, as well as about 6-8 small ships.

Sounds like you just encountered Downing the slaves(2 of 2).
The spawn after the gate here is a *****, especially for a lvl 3, id say its one of the worst if not the worst of lvl 3's. However - nothing is really broken about it.
Even if you did go for the mainstream race and get the mainstream lvl 3 ship - it wont be a solo pwnmobile until you know what youre up against and how to work it, how to pilot it. First of, id get some kind of resist on that thing. ship bonus or not - theyre not great.
The shuttle survived longer du to its size and possibly speed. Youre flying a larger, slower ship with an extender fitted - you will be hit hard. And as there are sentries around to deal most of the damage - a small sig radius is a great advantage. Ive done it in groups of two of just a cruiser and a frigate, but it takes knowing the mission and how to do it. Especially when shield tanking lasers - with no em hardener??
eveinfo.com is a good start - for most of the missions.

I'm pretty sure the big damage on that comes from battlecruisers, judging from the bounties on them. Whenever I run that mission its ammarrian ships which I'm less familar with, so I could be mistaken. I usually have to kill one of them, warp out, them come back.
That said, your ship build is probably what is giving you a lot of trouble. The ferox's strength is in passive tanking; the shield booster is waste of a slot. I would also argue that the ECM and AB are booth probably not the best choice for missioning. With both you are just weakening your tank. A battlecruiser using an AB is still slow as dirt, just use tractor beams if you want faster loot collecting.
For mid slots, you're better off replacing those three items with an invul field and two rat specific hardeners.
The two assault launchers probably won't help your dps on this mission either; in fact, I wouldn't recommend them for any level 3s. You want to get the high damage targets killed asap. Drones can handle the frigates.
Lastly, your low slots have a lack of focus. I would drop the nano, damage control, and warp sab and use a 2 x ballistic control and 2 X power diagnositic system fitting. The PDS's will help your tank a lot more then a damage control.

I may be wrong, but I think that the problem lies in your lack of resistances ... a Damage Control is nice, combined with hardeners, but alone it's not enough ...
That mission sounds like a "The Rogue Slave Trader, Downing the Slavers (2 of 2)", you need really high resistances against EM and Thermal for that mission.
You could maybe swap the ECM and the AB for a couple of active hardeners (EM and Thermal), I did that mission with my fully passive tanked Ferox (2 Large Shield Extender IIs + EM, Thermal and Kinetic T2 passive shield hardeners) without problems, but I have maxed shield skills ...

Tnk u all for the advices.
I looked around a little and found out that this is probably the hardest lvl3 mission. :( Yay! I will do a little training and fit the hardeners.
Is there any way to set the distance the warp gate launches you too. I read that it would be good to warp about 40km form them and take out the sentrys first, but i don't know if it's possible.

yup, you need mission specific hardeners to boost your resists. suggestions: replace the nanofiber with a power diagnostic system. change the jammer and AB for 2 hardeners (ecm doesn't really work on npcs). i'm not sure about ferox since i've never used one, but the medium shield booster seems undersized. personally, i love damage controls (probably because they saved me lots of times with tanked structure on pvp battleships hehe), but you could change that for another PDS for better passive tank. just ideas, i'm not an expert on ferox setups.
look in the ships and modules forum for the sticky for ship setups. you'll sure find some npc ferox setups :). those are a good start for the first setup, then you can tweak it as you need once you got more experience.

Well, it's easy mission same as any other L3 mission for a Ferox - but for a properly fitted Ferox. Try this setup: high: I don't care as long as there's all heavies mid: 2x best extenders you can use ( F-S9 or T2 serves their best), 3x hardeners chosen carefully according to the missions dmg low: 2x PDS, 2x SPR. Don't worry about your cap going at start down to it's 50% or even 40% - it will stabilize there. Same about shield - it works the best at 30-40% mark, so start to worry only in case it goes below 30%. -------------------------------------------- Just flying to the nearest mall -------------------------------------------- |

This mission is like jumping into VERY hot oven. First of all you need to jump in with repairer already running, EM+Thermal resists and be very very fast targetting 4x sentries on the corners, before other ships lock on you. Kill the sentries and the rest is a joke.
I was able to do this in a Maller first time but warped out a-few times. So, cruiser on this mission is no-no. Next time I got this mission, used my Prophecy and all was easy without warping out etc...

The mission scared me aswell. Was doing it in a munnin, with my explosive and kinetic hardner off since i was tanking em+thermal (which the munnin has high natural resists for) Get to the last gate, I go through, start firing at the nearest sentry. The i notice my tank can't keep up (single medium t2 rep). My armour goes away in something like 20 seconds and i nearly start to panic but manage to warp out - without my drones.
Looked it over at everinfo again, and the notice the sentries do a lot of explosive damage...
Hardner on, back in - its a breeze.
The ships don't do much damage omi, its the explosive damage of the sentries that gives people a nasty surprise.

Well, every time I got Laser crystal loot from the sentries and thought they are doing EM+Thermal. Those sentries are internally named as "Bloodraider tachyon beam sentry" and WTF ?!?! they are doing 16 EM /16 Explosion / 3 Kinetic damage so, you are right there.
Heh, talk about laser surprise

Yeah, you'll need to harden against all 4 damage types and take down the turrets as fast as possible. They pump out massive amounts of DPS of all 4 types.
After that it's pretty easy to tank. ---------- My sig is boring. |

Personally, I've found taking out the turrets fast still requires me to warp out. I take most of the damage from the big ships, even with balanced resists. Your millage may vary.

Edited by: Futuri on 08/11/2006 05:39:43 Edited by: Futuri on 08/11/2006 05:39:26 For this mission:
a) Fit 3 large extenders (best named or t2) and 2 invuln fields b) Make sure invuln fields are active before you warp in c) As soon as you warp in, target the sentries and shoot them d) While you do that, start moving towards some celestial object you can warp to - station, planet etc.
With this tactic you should be able to kill 2 sentries, warp out, then return and kill everything else.
Oh, and you can bookmark the very last room, you don't have to go through the gates to get there the 2nd time.

warp in to the place, make a BM, and warp to optimal range...easy as it is...the thing in this mission is to take out the damage dealers first and that will be the sentries..

This is one of the hardest level 3. Even in a BS with active hardeners and a large rep I had to warp out of this one once or twice. Kill the sentries and then the BCs. This one will be a bugger without a monster tank in a BC.

Edited by: Morwen cormacolinde on 09/11/2006 02:38:07 As others said, your setup doesn't help. I've used a Ferox for a while and I can solo every level 3 mission. My setup is:
5 Malkuth Heavy launchers, 2 tractor beams 2 Large FS-9 shield extenders, 2 mission-specific hardeners, 1 AB (replaced with an Inv Field for harder missions) 1 PDS (II if you can), 1BCU (II if you can), 2 Shield Power Relays

Wow... not to be rude, but your ship setup BLOWS.
First... get that stupid white noise off your ferox. Never use it again in a mission.
Second... choose active or passive tank. If you want active, use a large shield booster and it better be a t2 at least if you want a remotely decent tank. If you want a passive, use 2 extenders, 2 EM resist mods and 1 thermal resist mod (for this mission). This also means getting rid of the AB, you honestly don't have any room for it with a passive tank or an active tank on a ferox, especially on hard missions like this one.
Third... Get rid of those worthless Assault launchers. Go all heavy, use drones to kill frigates.
Forth... get rid of the damage control, a PDS will add more tanking in active and a SPR adds a LOT more in a passive.
Fifth... dump the worthless nanofiber.
Sixth... Dump the warp stab.
Seventh... use 4 SPR's as your lows for a passive tank, 4 PDS for an active tank.
Now you can argue and use a different setup if you want, that's totally up to you.... but only if you want to have more trouble with the mission. These are, mathematically, the best ferox tanks you can get. My sig has a link to a bunch of diff tanking setups for a ferox, raven, and a few other caldari ships for comparisons.

Edited by: Ghan Tylous on 09/11/2006 13:26:19 First you warp in fly away from the sentries. Get the turret you are flying towards to and then target the BC rats (Slavers). When you are far away enough, the sentries stop firing at you and you have taken out the BC.
Rest of the mission is easy picking. The BC slavers do the most damage. 52 emp and thermal.

Did this first go in a Brutix (After I spent a week mining the Omber ), 4 harderners (1 EM, 1 Therm, 1 Kin, 1 EANM) a shedload of cap rechargers and mixed range ammo. Take out the sentries in range first, set drones on the frigs. Reeeally important to bulk up on EM resist though, can imagine its harder for shield tankers with the low base EM.

This mission when I first did it, scared the crap out of me. In the past few days I have done it like 3 times now. I NEVER decline it, it's very lucrative. I warped out the first time I began getting hammered as I did not relish losing a 23m isk ship plus mods. As the others ahead of me have said you do need to replace a few things on your Ferox and also pilot it a different way. Here is how I am fitted and How I worked it... Hi-slots 5x Arbalest Launchers fitted with Dmg specific Heavies to the rats 2x 200mm Rails Med-slot 1x MWD 2x Shield Ext 1x EM Hardener 1x Thermal Hardner low 1x BCU 3x PDU
Once I got the hang of it...I warped in dropped my drones off and targeted the sentries as they had the range on me. Immediately swung down and away from them all and MWD'd it til the ships/sentries were at my max range all the while launching the on the sentries. I have 8900 in shields and I was at 70-80% once I got out of there. Just start picking off the ships as you see fit. I lose a drone or two sometimes, but not always. Something to keep in mind is that with all the dang walls and structures, it makes it difficult to get your target and seems a bit overwhelming at first.
I would definately remove the nano and the warp stab. You need the AB or even the MWD IMO so you can get outta the frying pan for a bit and get situated.
Good luck and if you need any help feel free to hit me in game! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Over... |

MWD ni a mission deadspace? Also, dunno about your mission, but mine usually has two Stasis Webifying Towers in it: Before those two are down - no fast movement!
Anyway, lag may have been an issue here if they got you into hull within 1 second. Start all the hardeners and possibly even any shield booster when you're still 500km from dropping out of warp. You can always stop them after things calm down a little.
I haven't tried this in a Ferox, but the only way I can do this in a Cyclone is starting to deploy drones and locking and shooting easy targets *) almost before you drop out of warp. Really, be sharp, no dallying: anything down doesn't do any damage anymore (that's a gank tank).
*) For me that's their 2 Stasis Towers with my guns / missiles while the drones are already over their destroyers - destroyers can pack quite a punch. --

This was actually my first lvl3 mission I did right after getting my brand-new Ferox and it's been pure luck that I could get out again with 34% structure left.
Now a few weeks later and still flying a Ferox I got it a second time. That mission really gave me the creeps when entering the last stage. But when my shields never dropped below 30% the whole fight I've been mightily proud about myself afterwards
I used: High: 5x 'Malkuth' Heavies
Med: 3x Large Shield Extender II 1x named Invul Field 1x named EM Hardener
Low: 1x BCU, 1x SPR, 1x PDR, 1x RCU
I also used two med blasters especially for those pesky turrets but I don't know if they contributed much to it. That's the reason why my lows are such a mix as I couldn't fit the blasters otherwise.
I used Havocs to kill the sentries as fast as possible. My shield started to get up again after I had all 4 down so I switched to Thunderbolts to finish the ships.
Hope that helps a bit.

That seems like a solid setup. Mine is like this...
5x Arbalest Heavies 1x Med Blaster 1x Tractor beam
2x Large Shield Boost 2x Rat specific hardners 1x ECCM of some sort
1x BCU 3x PDU
My shields are at 8705 currently, only once have I dropped into my Armor and it was a result of the "Downing the Slavers" mission. The second time I did it I took care of those effin turrets first. Also, be careful if you get the spy stash...effin Missile Batteries pack widow makers and hit me hard.

I used a Passive Tank Ferox for all my lvl 3 missions
Highs: 5 x Arby Heavies 1 x 150 Proto 1 x TB
Mids: 2 x Hardners Primary Damage Type 1 x hardner Secondary Damage Type 2 x Large Extenders.
Lows: 1 x Fluxcoil 2 x Shield Power Relay 1 x BCU
The ferox is a tough little ship, i basically slept through most lvl 3's with that above setup.
