Autocannons are pretty awsome. Lots of people don't use missiles at all although a few minmatar ships are very good with them.
For frigate level fights, rockets are pretty good but skilling them up doesn't help you with the next tier of missiles (when you use cruisers you want to use heavy missiles and you need standard missiles to get them).
I would not invest too much time into rockets as minmatar since missiles is kinda secondary for you.

For good autocannon use train gunnery (duh :P), Rapid Firing, Trajectory Analysis, and Motion Prediction. These will boost your RoF, falloff (which is absolutely critical for autocannons), and tracking (more accuracy and damage while moving fast... another critical thing for minmatar). Slap those puppies on a rifter and have some fun. ______________

basicaly every gunnery skill except hybrids, lasers and controled bursts. They are all good and all needed if you want to get the most out of minmatar ships. Rockets are fine for autocanon rifter setups but I wouldnt train missiles at the expense of gunnery.
If you want a secondary weapon system on minmatar ships train up drones after you get to cruisers. In general projectile weps have poor tracking and drones can help take out the ships that get under your guns. They also add much needed dps.
As soon as you can bite the bullet train up t2 projectiles. T2 guns are what seperate the men from the boys(which is why you see so many childish posts from the caldari).

Edited by: Mayoz Miner on 08/11/2006 22:50:40 thx for replies ..... so more or less Gunnery skills 1st then train missiles so I can get cruise missils and dnt bother with rockets ?
So would a good gunnery setup on a Rifter be 3 t2 AC's and 1 cruise missle ( for both PVE and PVP) ?
EDIT I take it drones would be far down the training line ?

surely thou, with 3 t2 150mm and 1 rocket launcher the dps and rof will be greater than 2 rocket launchers w/ 2 150mm guns?

Mayoz, I'm going to speculate that you're a very new player, and this advice will be based on that assumption.
When you're just starting out, it's much more important to get a broad basis of skills than to max out one or two. You're going to start by needing a lot of basic skills just to fit your Rifter with a minimal setup- you're going to want hull upgrades, weapon upgrades, either shield or armor skills, afterburner, etc.
Once you're able to fly your ship, start looking into learning skills- get all 6 of them to level 2 or 3 early on. Then look for support skills- go through the skills list for Electronics, Engineering, Gunnery, Mechanic, Navigation, and buy every trainable skill that looks useful. Get them all up to 2 or 3. Then train for a cruiser and medium weapons.
Once you feel comfortable in your Rupture, get all learnings to 4. Then train for a battlecruiser; then train up advanced learnings before you think about either battleships or T2 ships.
For Minmatar, you're going to end up training 3 weapon systems and 2 tanks: to fly our ships well you need Gunnery, Missiles, Drones, Armor, and Shields. That's a much bigger list than any other race's combat skills, and it's going to take you a while. But you don't have to worry about all that just yet.

Don't bother with missiles. They suck on Minmatar and I am still waiting on CCP to correct the skillwise abomination they have created in the Typhoon.
Go with gunnery. Train stuff that boosts your ROF first, then stuff that boosts your Damage Modifier (DM). Boost tracking, but I did not bother boosting falloff past level 4. ____ "If your not dyin' your not tryin'." "Are you prepared to go all the way, Alexi?" DuGalle |
