Maybe this is just me but I get the feeling many changes that people want to the game are just changes to make everything easier and balanced. Personally I like the idea of one race having something unbalanced and "super powerful" or some task you must do be kinda annoying... it gives the game character and makes it even more realistic. Look at life today, many things are horribly one-sided and other things even out nicely, much like how Eve is. Lets not try and and turn this game into something like Galaxies by magically making it so that everyone has a much simpler task of becoming an "all powerful Jedi." Does it seem like the new Caldari T3 BS is better than the others? Sure. Maybe the Caldari have more advanced scientists working on their ships? I dunno... Thoughts?, comments?, flames?, OMGIHATEYOUATOM's? :)

The problem is right now two races are getting good at a lot of things and two are getting completely shafted.
Before RMR each race had their niche, not it seems everybody is being given some form of ship to compete and the Amarr and Gallente are being left behind.

Edited by: Felix Dzerzhinsky on 08/11/2006 06:24:38 I thought you were going to say that if CCP is not cairful, it will lose its older and more loyal playerbase by catering to the possibility of getting new accounts. I.e. The SWG effect - which killed that game. I hear a lot of people are upset about quite a few changes this Kali and many older players (03/04) are looking around for new games. But everyone will wait and see.

I don't see this as the case at all...
I do see a lot of complaints from the userbase including me on Amarr being so unballanced... but... I love EVE... leaving is just not an option and most everyone I know feels pretty much the same way...
Now given if I ever felt like I've spent months trying to train for something and then have it be COMPLETELY nerfed then I'd probably consider leaving...
But on that note... let's just be honest... what game compairs to the complexity and beauty that makes EVE what it is... PVP is not mindless like WoW or other MMOs... the Player driven market is not useless like in SWG... Crafting in EVE doesn't leave much to be desired... EVE is the most complete MMO where anyone can play any "proffession" and be happy and pretty much as equal and competitive with any other person playing any other "proffession"
And then again... when do people NOT complain about changes...?

That would be like me if when they nerf the Curse or one of it's modules... Except I seriously doubt I'd quit... I'd probably just run around my lawn screaming for a minute, then sit down and have a good cry.
More seriously, Eve is a better game than SWG, which had some fundamental flaws before the major changes. I think we should wait on hitting the panic button on changes that are still in testing. Our job should be making sure game-breaking changes don't hit TQ by getting the message across to the devs with all these extensive whine discussion threads. And game breaking things include making things "too easy" or "too balanced" or even "overpowered". So the argument cuts both ways.

Just to clarify, I agree that the direction CCP is going is a GOOD direction. I very much look forward to patches and updates that may change aspects one way or another for races cause it makes the game more realistic. :)

I never thought I would leave SWG. But, they ruined it bending over backwards for the impatient "must pwn all now" crowd.
I came to Eve because it was a mature player base built on a tatical game plan. Tactical is the key. Diversity. Depth. Nice paper>rock>scissors implementation.
I don't see Eve moving to the SWG level just yet, but I am sure the all mighty dollar will eventually make them lose their minds. Alot of changes all at once[in Kali] will take time to iron out. But, unlike SWG there are no movies or outside marketing directives for updates and publishes. CCP has done a good job of working out bugs before "new enhancements" are published.

I do feel as though they are making the game easier for new players going by the changes i have seen on sisi. However, im still not going to leave. I love eve to much and there is simply nothing better out there. CCP shouldnt mistake this for an "Okay we are doing the right thing though", note that i said nothing better out there, that could very well change and if it does... all the people with the same attitude and thoughts that i have may very well leave. I agree with changes, they are necessary to move forward as a whole. But, maybe CCP should sit down and really think about the long term affects some of these changes will have.

There's nothing wrong with a race being better at something than all of the others.
As long as all of the races have a decent advantage somewhere.

I don't see what the problem is for making the game easier for new players to get into. I'm all for making it easier for new players to get into the game - and so long as 'making it easier' doesn't involve fundamentally changing the whole game then it shouldn't matter to anyone, it should only benefit us all. Maybe some people just like playing Eve because it isn't mainstream and if it becomes popular they will lose their 'cool' status?
CCP are taking Eve in a good direction, and although some changes are bigger than others (Contacts, Gangs) they will just take a little time to get used to and will ultimately provide a better playing experience for everyone

The problem imo with SWG when it went down was a complete change in the game. The NGE, which was the straw that broke a lot of camel's backs, was a complete revamping of how the game was played. Sony was asking people to play a different game and throw away all they had worked for in the game that preceded it. That is not what is happening here, if CCP scrapped the whole training system and told you if you're caldari, you can only fight and shoot missiles, you can never cross train and you cannot be whatever you want without rerolling your character, then people would pile out in droves. CCP is tweaking the mechanics and always adding things. So the new tier 3 battleships aren't coming out 100% balanced, give it time, the game evolves, and who knows, people always seem to find great niche's for ships after they've been around for awhile. This is definately not the NGE, this is an expansion, and of course everyone's going to spew their opinions forth but EVE is far too compelling a game for people to quit over tweaks to the game mechanics. CCP changes the game I'm playing, and yeah, I'll leave, but that is by no means what Kali is doing.

Everything is relative. Gallente was so used to always winning that they feel they are left behind when they suddenly cant use ecm + nos anymore. They will just switch to dampeners though. But still.
I think we will hear a lot about taking forever to target drones when fighting gallente ships...

Totally not true.
With Kali Gallente gets: a hit to T2 blaster ammo damage/range (void) and damage/tracking (null) T2 Railgun ammo range nerf a Tier 3 Blasterboat that is outperformed by the Megathron a Tier 3 BC that has a drone bonus and a 100m^3 drone bay (when it is supposed to bridge the gap between 75m^3 on the vexor and 375m^3 on the Domi).
Not to mention combat time is increased considerably which totally screws Gallente and Amarr since now engagements are all about cap now and the Gall/Amarr guns suck down cap like lemonade on a hot summer day.
Saying Gallente feel cheated because they cannot use ECM+NOS anymore is a totally narrowminded statement. That only applies to one possibly two ships - the Domi and Ishtar. Many (like myself) live for the high damage in your face blaster action and not the stupid ECM+NOS I win setups. I'm overly excited that ECM is getting a nerf and wish nos would get one too. However most of these statements are being applied to BS/HACs. Lets not forget that the ammo nerf for gallente is across the Small Medium and Large ammo types, not just large. Want to explain just how the small/medium T2 hybrid ammo is unbalanced? IMO there isnt even anything wrong with the Large ammo types, especially when these are the only ones getting nerfed except for Jav. torps, which is just as dumb. ---------------------

I didnt mean ONLY ecm+nos, but... yeah. The things you mention are all very true. Gallente as a race will have a harder time in Kali.
