I'm about to start L4 missions with my Raven and wondered, if I lose my ship, can I bookmark the can with my mods, go back in my pod, quit the mission, then return with another ship and pick up the can (like I do when I successfully complete a mission and return with my "harvester" for the cans). I've been lucky so far and haven't been killed while running PvE missions (at least, not since L1 days)....so I just don't know 'bout this. Thanks for any info.

You can. Be sure you bookmark the can of course and keep in mind you'll take a standing hit for failing the mission.
My thoughts are my own.... however, my corporate lackys and minions better agree with me |

Better yet, make friends. Bitterly learned that the hit for failing a Story line mission : 9.4 -> 4.4
Don't make the loss of a ship a double whammie, use the time and get a friend to help you avoid the faction loss.

Ouch, that is harsh.
Use the various mission databases to get an idea of what you will face in each mission and make sure you fit the right hardeners for the job. With a little preparation and care youo shouldn't have any issues.
And as the man says, it always helps to bring a few friends when starting L4 missions, preferably someone who has done them before so you can see how they handle them.
Cheers, Arrs.

take a fast ship (inty) and retrieve your can, set up a new ship, and complete the mission.
As mentioned tho, the answer to your question is yes.

Yes you can do that.
As the others have stated it is best to refit and come back and try and finish the mission. If you're in over your head, try and get some help to finish it, as standing losses from failing a mission are never fun.
If on the other hand you don't mind the standing loss and just want the mission over with so you can get your stuff, make sure you bookmark that can FIRST. Don't be like me when I did my first ever lvl4 mission and become so angry over the loss of your ship that you forget to bookmark the can :) (Thankfully the first was also the last ship I ever lost on lvl4s, we learn from our mistakes). ______

Thanks for all the info. Yes, I already religiously use EVE Info. Great resource! The first L4 mission I was offered was "Angel Extravaganza".....which I refused. It seemed a bit much for the first time out. The second offer was "The Gurista Spies," which I accepted. It was relatively easy....which I needed because I'm not really completely comfortable with an active tank yet (went strictly passive tank in my old Ferox). Really liked the payoff: 6 mil ISK for what I think was an easy mission. One thing: the loot was total crap....3 cans of what looked like cruiser and destroyers droppings. I don't think the BS's dropped anything. :(

Took me 9 months to figure out the bookmarking cans thing. When I lost cruisers and BCs (i saved the 16 mails from CONCORD to keep me humble) before, I assumed the whole deal was gone. Two weekends ago when I lost a Ferox to a lvl 3, i found out that i could get my stuff, and I was highly satisifed, since t1 ships are dirt cheap but my mission-use modules are not. The news that you can mark a can, cancel the mission and go back though, is great news to me. I lost a (usually) tough nutted Moa to a swarm of caldari that i was warped within 5km of, with my invul 2 and EM on, they dropped me in 23 seconds. That loss probably added up to 120 mil with all my escrow-gained gear, and i simply stopped playing for a couple days and beat up my wife's dog. Now I know that I can get my stuff back if i stay aware. So thanks for having this post up here on the first page on my first forum visit =)

I'm sure the dog's pretty happy about that, as well. |
