actually while I myself may not like Wow it is good that the OP is diversifiying in thier gaming experiences, infact, we can only HOPE that the OP enjoys their time there, who are we to wish a bad experience upon someone? So OP, go for it, I hope you have a good time but don't forget to come play EVE ok?

Everyone needs to play WOW. Like most games, you'll either love it or hate it. Get it out of your system then make up your mind on whether you want to send CCP or Blizzard your money each month :)

You don't need to buy it to figure out how bad it is.
There's a trial isn't there?

I played a trial of WoW a while ago though, I think I played it for about 10 mins before logging out and never going back

Edited by: Araxmas on 09/11/2006 13:17:05 There is a trial but its not downloadable. Your mate gets a leaflet with their copy that has a code for the one free trial. Its quite a lame way of spreading it. Personally i played WoW for about a month or two and all i can say is that it makes runescape look good. --------

I would not recommend it.

ah, there's a few bits of WOW that are bearable. My ex plays it with friends, and it's a much more forgiving game than eve, though she does find eve to be a much better game. and her character has a mechanical squirrel which, despite my prejudices, I have to admit is far too cute.
personally, I deleted it after barely 3 hours because the gameplay system, and graphical style are completely opposed to my tastes, however.

I done the same about 2 months ago i got it tried it for about 3 weeks and tbh got into it a wee bit. BUT then i came back on to eve and decided eve is for me the better game by a huge difference. I used to think everyone saying "WOW is for kiddies" and "get back to WOW you child" etc was just some kind of eve v wow rivalry but i tell you the majority of WOW is kids. I only bought it as all my college mates play it and i wanted to try it b4 i dissmissed it but i have tried it and can tell youonly my opinion which is eve is better a whole lot better and WOW is fullof kids stripping down there gnomes to there pants and dancing and thinking its the best thing ever but hey go make up your own mind. Sorry for posting with my alt but didnt want to embaress myself infornt of my corp/alliance mates by admitting the above.

I enjoyed my time spent in WoW, until I hit level 59 and realized that there is no point in playing anymore. If I were to play it again, I would do so with a Counter-Strike mentality. PVP rumble, entirely. Then it might be a bit more entertaining, and for longer.

I bought WoW a long time ago to try it out as per many peoples requests/wishes/threats and to this day I have not regretted it once. Many people sit there and insult WoW and say it sucks and that everyone there is an immature 12 year old however to truly experience how badly it actually SUCKS you HAVE to try it.
Sucktitude of this magnitude cannot be put into words. All I can say is keep the following words in mind while playing:
-You will be asked to do quests where you kill stuff -You will be asked to do quests where you have to find a certain amount of X by killing Y -When not doing quests to level you have to level by grinding. -The whole point of the game is to get to level 60. You don't level you can't play properly. Basically you are FORCED to level or else.

the pvp in wow isn't based on fear of loss, but the drive to win. that is the difference between wow "pvp" and eve pvp, there is actual loss involved rather than one's ego.

I can see WoW's appeal tbh, its got great pickup and play value, its just not for me, I love Eve for one reason above others and thats the fact it dosent have a safty net, any loss you feel.
Another good reason for Eve is the fact it dosent reward fools, infact it punishes them hard, really hard.
As I found out in my first painful months.

Hmmm ... Seems someone needs to say saomething good abput WoW here, else all EVE players will have a detest to the game even before ever trying it out.
1. WoW isn't for kiddies: Playing in high-end guilds (=corps) is a unique experience, this involves planning, practise and above all TEAMPLAY. This is a very timeconsuming activity as raidtimes are mainly between 18.00h and 00.00h 5 of the 7 days ( can be more hours and days). And therefor an adult way of interacting with eachother is really required. 2. As for the PvP aspect: Obtaining a high rank and getting PvP-rewards is mainly a matter of grinding honourpoints by killing opponents and winning battlegrounds. EVE also requires people to play a long time before they really can actively participate in PvP as they have to train the appropiate skills. And do I even have to mention that like in EVE the build of a character's talents/skills and gear/ships&modules is of high importance and ofcourse the knownledge of your opponent's talents/skills and gear/ships&modules. 3. Progressing both PvE or PvP in WoW is also a way of getting fame and respect among your fellow players, which is always nice when you love people pumping up your ego even more :p
BUTthe downside in my humble opinion is that when you reach the tops in all or most aspects of the game it becomes grinding as killing the big end-bosses is fun the first 10-15 times, but after 100 times you get sick of it. When you have the best gear there is possible, you don't intrest yourself in getting anything else anymore and the game is starting to be less enjoyable. Imagine you own an EVE character with 150M skillpoints and 1000B at his bankaccount, how long would you keep playing with that character if you know you can kill 95% of the players you come across?

Edited by: Araxmas on 10/11/2006 17:03:09 Edited by: Araxmas on 10/11/2006 17:02:20 I got a warrior upto 58 and from the time it took i have to say it IS full of kiddies. Yes there are some mature guilds but i wouldn't go as far to say it takes mature people planning. All you need is someone to tank and some people to stack some other ability to do the absolutely boring end-game raids.
The pvp is pointless as you don't inflict any damage to the person what-so-ever. Oh yay i killed an enemy....yet he respawns with not so much as even durability damage.
Originally by: Aranthi EVE also requires people to play a long time before they really can actively participate in PvP as they have to train the appropiate skills.
The talent tree's of enemies is sorta like the build of a ship but frankly in WoW if someone is 10 levels higher than you than there isn't much chance of defeating them, where in eve a year old player can be taken out by a 1 month player (depends on ships ofcourse) --------

Ironic, I just left WoW for a game with more complexity, more depth and better rewards. I've joined EVE. :)

Let me breakdown WoW for you: PVP - There is PVP? Wait. What? Where!? I wanna go kill some orcs! Oh, I can only do that in battlegrounds you say? Oh, I can only attack them if they attack me first you say?
Crafting - Ummm... Why? 1 raid and I get better gear than anything crafted.
Complexity - "Ug. Me Orc. Me Smash."
Dynamic Play - "Me lvl59." "Ug. Me lvl 60" "Ug. Me lvl 60 too!" "Ug wanna go kill some gnomes and laugh at them when they come back 2min later?"
