I was messing around with my Thorax today killing NPCs and such when I noticed the ammount of damage I was doing. I'm getting about 30-40 damage per shot against many of my foes (Blood Raider cruisers, I think). This is with Heavy Electron I's with Antimatter and a named MagStab.
I hear Thoraxes can get up to and even above 500 DPS (damage per second)? How? Am I way below par on this?
For those of you with Uber blaster skills, what kind of damage do you usually get per shot (with T1 blasters) and what DPS (damage per second) does this relate too?

Edited by: AsfALT on 09/11/2006 08:51:06 Hi, 500 dps i think it's reachable only with t2 blasters and t2 ammo+good drone skills.
As to ur 50 dmg per shot and how that translates into dps, simple, (50/rof)*number of guns.

It would be 500 dps before resistance is calculated. Also they could be calculating with up to 3 magnetic stabs

also, the amount shown on screen is after the targets resistances have been calculated into the equation. .

500 DPS can be reached with 5 Ion Blaster II, 5 Hammerhead II, 2 Magnetic Field Stabilizer II and of course good skills.

Well, for one you're fighting blood raiders, which are weak against EM and Thermal. so your blasters are at a bit of a disadvantage there. And DPS like that is calculated without any resists. Like the people before me already said ----------------------------------- Rawr. awrarawr! |

It's a gang setup, 1 vs 1 it loses against anything that can stay out of range or anything with some ew. Not really the point. |

Thanks for all the replies everyone!
Ok, so it seems that the "high" DPS comes from tech II stuff as opposed to what I'm using right now. Good to know there's plenty of room for improvement in that area. I'm also getting my gunnery skills up so that will help as well.
How much better is the small neutron setup vs. a heavy ion/electron setup? Does it put out more damage? Or is it's greatest strength the extra tanking ability?
Just trying to get a feel for this ship's PvP abilities. So far it's an awesome ship, fun to fly, and it looks...well...um...it's fun to fly.

small neutrons make you sacrifice alot of range and damage. I think you dont even get the gallente cruiser skill bonus to damage when using guns other than medium. The advantage of course is that you can fit a much bigger tank, typically including a 1600mm plate. In that case you also rely more on drones for damage and your guns become like anti-frig protection.

Why do people insist on small guns with 1600 plates? It's relatively easy to fit t2 electrons with a 1600 plate and a small rep.

Not insisting on it. Actually the massive plate would seem to take away from the lovely agility of this ship. Was curious about that particular setup's allure. It would seem to be the massive tank.
As for T2 stuff: not yet. I'm so bad at PvP that a spacekitten could send me packing. So until I have the skill to bash spacekittens, I won't be fitting relatively expensive stuff onto a ship I'll be sure to lose.
