Its $4 or so - take it on the condition the nice waitress would go out with you .
Or just suck it up, I've had worse.

I'm not going to bother reading the previous replies as they may change my opinion, but here in the US there is a standing rule in restraunts that if you are not satisfied with your meal then you are not required to pay for it. (Yes, this has been tried in courts and held up. Most recently by a retired armed forces veteran) You could have very well spoken with the manager and argued your point.
You ordered a personal and they made a small. That's not your fault it's theirs and as such they incur the charge not you. Your waitress should have informed you and most likely didn't , because if it was her fault for writing it down wrong then she would have it docked from her pay check.
A general rule of thumb if you don't wish to have people walk over you is to stand up for what you believe in whether it makes a scene or not. (Also if you make a scene the manager is more likely to "see things your way" so to speak in order to get you out of the restraunt and not disturb other customers. Only do this though if something bad actually happens.)

Originally by: Zezman Ok, so I went back to the pizza place today. Gave the letter to the head waitress, and she called the manager, and basically said they'd take $6.25 off of my next meal. So I stayed and had a $11.00 meal for around $4.00. It wasn't a completely free meal, but a just compromise. I will probably therefore split my business 50/50 between the pizzaria and the chinese take out store.
This is what happens when you "cause waves" :) Employees, usually, don't give a **** about the customer. All they look forward to is their next paycheck. The managers, on the other hand, lose money if their turnover falls. It also looks good when they write a report saying that they had a problem with a customer and they were able to resolve it.
Congrats on the discount :)

first off they should have given you the small, apoligized that it wasnt personal, and then still charged you for a personal pan pizza. They made a mistake, to correct it, not only would they have had to waste the small they had made for you, they would have also had to make you wait for a longer period of time.
My family went out and had sushi the other night, we ordered 5 rolls, they lady brought out 2 of them first, then brought out another platter with 5 ADDITIONAL rolls on it. She apologized and said we would only be charged for the 5, and to enjoy the additional two we recieved. That is the way a business SHOULD go about dealing with mess ups such as that. If the screw up is THEIR fault, they do not make you suffer unless they give you something extra in return. **** if you insisted on the personal pan, they would have had to throw away the small pizza ANYWAYS. If you complained you could have gotten the personal price im sure.

A similar thing happened to me, except I ended up paying for a $25 steak...it was good, though it didn't seem to have enough meat on it to be worth $25. I like how they wait until you get the bill and spring this surprise on you. "Well we ran out of this, so we gave you this, which costs about $10 more." "Yeah, but...fine, whatever."

Well way back, I used to manage a resterant while I was in school. I'll fill you in on what I would have done, maybe that will help.
- Well my staff messed up, that happens from time to time, after all they are only human. Had it been me I would have sent out the larger portion right away, and simply charged you for what you ordered. Its our fault and not yours, and that would have been the solution that works best for us. You get your pie, and we get paid, and we don't have the incur the costs of making anouther pizza, and throwing the old one out.
- Had that not happened, and you showed up with a bill for a small pie, and all you wanted was a personal sized one, exactly what happened to you, if it had been brought to my attention I woudl have happly discounted your bill and charged you for what you ordered.
- Actually come to think of it, had this all occured in my resterant, I would have dicounted your bill even further, as a means of saying sorry. Free drinks, staff discount, something along that lines.
Here's a hint for everyone. Resterants want your business, and will do a lot to get it, and to keep you coming back. Someone else said, write it off and never come back, thats exactly what we are afraid of. Anyone who would come to me with a ligitament complain would be treated like gold, in hopes that they can over look that and come back here and order more food.
Yes its a justified complain, and I wouldn't have a problem speaking to the manager about it. A lot of wait staff don't care about thier jobs, its extra drinkning money (I almost typed isk) on the weekends for them. But the managers do, or should, since more often then not, thats there only source of income.

Geee.... I wonder why. You could have handled that 20 times better. without causing a fuss for the hot waitress even... it's 6 bucks and next time check what the toppings are before ordering it!
Too clarify, not causing a fuss in the first place, caused a lot of frustation on your part, and on the waitresses part, and on the restaurants management. Wehn if you would have said, "seeing as I ordered a personal, and it was your mistake how about we split the difference" or something, would have probably resulted in a pleasant solution for all parties.

Originally by: Alvar Ursidae We have consumer laws in Australia, that basically state, you ordered one thing, and are prepared to have that, If the shop or restaurant screws up, that's their problem. You should have got the pizza at the lower price. No wait.
However, the second part is the taste of it. If it was not to your liking, against your expectations, I would not have paid a single red cent! Serve me crap, expect a scene.
1st point, you ordered a Personal pan pizza, you should only pay for a personal pan. if they made it to big, that is there prob. 2. Dude, It's a specialty pizza, not everyone will like it. The resturants responsibilty is to gie you what you ordered, if you ordered something you don't like, that isn't there problem. There are resturaunts that i don't patronize simply becuase there is nothing on the menue I like. However, as a consumer of something as fickle as taste, you have to go in oredering something that you have never had before, that even if it made perfectly, you may not like it.

i actually work as a mystery shopper and Pizza Hut is one of my frequent asignments. so i actually LOVE it when the waitresses and the place screw up, because i go back, describe in detail what went wrong and the next day the person who "wronged" me gets, if incredibly lucky, a harsh punishment, usually pay docking is the smallest punishment. big offences or repeat offences = fired. and its great.
i must admit though, as a mystery shopper we get explicit instructions NEVER to make ourselves known as mystery shoppers, as it defies the point. but i can never resist, ever, when someone screws up. although i dont tell them directly, after im due to leave, i walk back into the place, notepad in hand with pen ready, go right up the person, ask him/her what him/her name is, write it down. and then leave.
all this and i get paid to eat free pizza.

First of all, I made no fuss over the waitress at any time, first or second visit. So she has no idea I even had any opinion of her to begin or end with. I've even avoided eye contact or following her with my eyes, knowing that women can detect that. The only time I look their way is to get attention so I can get a refill on my coke.
Second of all, I did question her on charging me for a small pizza when she gave me the bill, but she said she had given me the option of waiting for ten minutes for the personal, which I declined. That's why I returned the next day with a letter to the owner explaining my situation.
Finally, I knew what toppings were on the pizza, that's why I only ordered a personal so I could try it out with minimal fuss. If I didn't like it, I only wasted $5.50 for the pizza. Except that I ended up paying for a small for something that I found I hated. Thankfully it is all resolved now. They didn't exactly bend over backwards to please me, so I don't feel obligated to give them all of my business should I feel in the mood for chinese next Friday.
BTW, you might want to know why I chose to eat out every Friday.... [/bait]

by ur description i'd be doing the waitress and then using her "perks of the job" to get free pizza to make up for it.
normally tho dependign on the amount i'd query it. when they presented the bill i'd mention they had charged u wrong and she admitted fault in takign ur order so u shud only have to pay for what u actually did order.
otherwise just go back, get her number and screw her
