It's only a six month ban. A lot of WoW players are too brain dead to even try Eve, let alone play it or get into it for a significant period of time. I don't mean to be judgmental, it's just the truth.
I would definitely welcome some World of Warcraft players though. The more the merrier.

It was an old Simpsons reference, actually.

Ex wow player here.
After playing EVE for a while now, there is no way in hades I'm ever going back.
When you get a tast of being a lion instead of being a lamb one can never really go back. One person I met in wow once told me, right before I tried Eve the first time, that eve players where a bunch of evil unsocialized psychopaths. I found that to be untrue. I found that while evil and psychopathic we are not unsocialized, we get along with others just fine in a ' tribal headhunter ' sort of way lol |

<- 80 Troll Hunter, Argent Dawn server, quit after Cataclysm.
Amusingly, WoW was once quite a hardcore game, much like classical Everquest. But It had slowly nerfed itself beyond even a theme park. It's just... a meaningless cartoon now. For what it had done to itself and to the whole MMORPG genre it should painfully die in a fire. |

Personally, i think WoW was best in TBC - Vanilla was a mess, looking back on it. However, i do look at this with rose-tinted glasses and i have to ask myself (and you): Do you think that because of nostalgia, or are you confusing an obtuse grind with a good game? Because lets be honest, that's all that WoW was at the time.
The one thing i don't like about WoW after MoP at least is the lack of real choice (though that was less obviously the case before that), highlighting the shortcomings that were there already.
If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

Tedious grindy game mechanics were pretty much the industry standard of late 90s - early 2000s. Just like shiny and accessible themeparks with little to no learning curve aimed at casual audience are the standard of early 2010s. WoW dominated the MMO market during most of that decade, and that evolution is almost entirely WoW's fault.
Is there rose-tinted glasses involved? Certainly. Still, a long and hard grind at least gives some satisfaction if (when) you finally succeed. Kicking an one-hit cardboard villain in a virtual Disneyland and being showered with useless gold for that "epic victory" gives none. So I'd prefer former if given the choice between two. But does tedium equals good game? No.
WoW merely copied the standards of the time when it was created. But, then it suddenly became the standard itself, began to experiment with more and more accessibility and streamlining, and things went wrong on all levels. |
