With the new easymody scanning, will low sec level 4's , even lvl 3's still be viable in Kali? Currently I have done lvl 4's in several low sec locations in Gallente, Minny and Caldari space over the past two to three months, and despite contstant use of the scanner, have never seen a probe attempt (also have to do with location - I stay away from high pod zones) I attribute this to the diffficulty and inaccuracy of the scanning system.
In Kali, however, scanning has become easymode, fast, with high accuracy, making scanning multiple systems in a roaming gang viable. Any thoughts on this, especially in light of the comments on possibly moving lvl 4's to low sec?

with the new stadnings in local, it's a lot easier than before. Also, IF they carry over warp to 0, you are instantly docked when you warp out on a mission.
Only prolem is, if the NPC's have you scrambled and in that moment somebody jumps your mission. then it's going to get interesting ....

Edited by: Caol on 13/11/2006 08:29:22 Some thoughts: - Train up the skills for you mission ship of choice (finnishing missions faster means less time for you to be scanned out). - Try (though is up to you) to move away from a fully faction fitted CNR, a t2 Raven with t1 hardeners won't hurt your wallet that much if you loose your ship. - Insure your ship (goes without saying). - As said, stay alert to local.
Of course, you could also start to work together with other mission runners in the area, putting up a secure can with a note or something asking to comment in local if known pirates are seen in the surrounding areas...

Keep Lv4s in high sec, make Lv5s in low sec. Lv5s should have tough npc AI, such that if a 2nd ship enters, they can switch agro to the new arrival. This will mean there is an element of risk to pirates going after mission runners. not only they have to fight the runner but also a number of the npcs also.

The problem is that most people that come to pirate in the .4 I run missions in are generally have a high security status, its impossible to know who the pirate is, and with 20+ people in the system at all times, you just can't know. We even have a guy that camps the gate in a Carrier from time to time. 'Eh guess i'll have to move to high sec.

Guys, when you say "keep an eye in local" what do you mean? If bad-arse pirate enters local with -9.0 sec, then what? run for the hills? Leave the mission unfinished? Dock in nearest station till bad pirate leaves? Because just looking at the local it's not gonna save you... me thinks ... there should be some follow up on your advice. |

Use the scanner to determine his ship type and whereabouts.
You can use the scanner to detect scan probes but to do this, you have to uncheck 'use overview settings' and that can result in a very long scan time, especially in a busy system, so you might have to skip that and just assume that they are trying to probe you out. If you do get a scan on the system, look out for Snoop 3au probes. If you see them, get the hell out.
So, if you've decided its necessary, warp to a safespot (you did make one, right?) and cloak. (If you dont have a cloak, you'd better warp yourself between safespots) I fit a cloak. The lock-time nerf is a bit annoying but imo its well worth it for the tactical advantage it gives. Get coffee and have a cigarette and wait for him to leave. Docking with hostiles in local isn't a brilliant idea as you have no idea if its safe to undock until they leave the system. At least if you're in a safespot, you can keep an eye on the hostile(s) using the scanner.
Thats the 'playing it safe' way. If you want to live a bit more dangerously, just stay aligned for warp to your safespot. Keep an eye on that overview, make sure you're a fair distance from the mission's warp-in point and if you see any hostiles appear on the scanner, get out.
(Or you could get together with the other mission-runners and blast the hostiles out of the sky.)
