I'm curious as the rationale behind permitting Secure Cans to be "probe-able" in Kali. The downside of this to some ratters is pretty easy to see:
1. Most good ratting systems are not in systems with stations. 2. Secure cans are currently used to store ammunition, and sometimes rat loot. 3. Before this change, anyone with the instas could get a hauler into just about any region / system, leave a GSC, return in a Battleship and rat a good long time.
Basically, you could call this a "nerf" to ratters who use ammunition (non-Amarr, non-drone boats), and a big disincentive for people to get out of Empire into 0.0.
Larger corps and established alliances can put up a deathstar POS, leave floating unanchored cans inside the shield (or just online a hangar array) and rely on the honor system. This change really seems to hurt the small guy. I'm curious about the rationale here.

So people can get rid of leaches
PS: POSes? You can make 30 mill a day with no problem ratting in 0.0, a small pos costs about 16 mill per week iirc and can be fueled with 1 indy every 2 weeks.
Since you can easily have 10 people working out of a single POS it wouldn't be too hard to organize? -----

In the last patch it was still impossible (for me) to scan for secure cans, so I donŠt know if CCP still plan to implement this.
But even if cans are probeable, most ppl wonŠt care about it, except if they really would like to get rid of you. Just pick a system, which isnŠt used much, and nobody will pop your cans, as many alliances even donŠt pop the cans which are located at planets or moons.
@Joshua: Small POS are not expensive, but they are quite easy to detect and destroy. So if a alliance would destroy a giant secure can, they would destroy the small POS for sure.

might want to take some time Before Kali lands to get some things done. like getting someone with those super long range probes to help make a safespot farther out in the system then can be reached by a kali-type probe from any object.
possible?
it would end up being a nearly insane distance away, of course, but warping a couple times to get to your ammo dump would be worth it, right?

Exactly right. Let's look at the situation. Unless you are ratting in enemy territory, and even then chances are low, there is virtually no problem. People aren't going to sit there wasting scan probes just to find your ss, then to pop the cans, which by the way, take a considerable amount of firepower to destroy(huge sec cans that is). A single person who wanders out in a battleship would have to waste quite a bit of time and ammunition just to pop one.
No worries here.....

That's assuming that existing BMs work after Kali though right?

The only BM's that will not work will be instas that are within 40km of gates. ------------- Stop whining. |

Find a dead end system in the middile of no where, you can make the money spend on the POS back in 3 days, less if you are not alone. As long as you dont claim sov and place the POS away from the main route alliances are unlikely to drop by to kill it.
Unless theyre horribly bored of course -----
