There was a thread somewhere that I can no longer find where people were complaining that CCP did the Nebulae wrong in EvE because you could see stars through them in places they believed should block all light from the stars behind them.
Well I was checking out pics of Nebulae online and came across this...

Well **** me! I see stars all over through that nebula!
CCP. Great ******* job with the new nebulae. They are absolutely fantastic! Now if only WH space had it's own special nebula that nobody can see from any other space...
Hint hint...
Edit:
Dear God! Some of these are beautiful!

Yes there are (many) stars in front of nebula. In fact, there are some strange properties about nebula in the Galaxy that does not form well to common sense.
The first thing about a nebula is how HUGE they really are.
The second thing that is hard to grasp is that the closer you get to a nebula, the more it actually disappears. As it gets larger by traveling closer to it, it becomes less dense (i.e. nebulas). Thus, if you were inside the nebula, you would actually see clear sky. The Earth and the solar system could be inside a thick nebula right now but we have no way of knowing unless we travelled very far and looked back to our direction.
So yes, these are amazing things in our Galaxy and their size is very hard to grasp. Santa, all I want for xmas is a thousand likes... a thousand likes... a thousand likes... (now that song is stuck in my head) |

I love how when jumping through a regional gate, then warping off the gate on the other side, you can look back at the gate you came through and see the previous region's nebula in the distance behind the gate.

I don't have a link to the other thread you were describing, however, I'm pretty sure from having read it, that you misunderstood the OP.
The problem the OP (in that other thread) had with the nebulae wasn't that stars shouldn't shine through dark parts of nebulae, the problem the OP had, was that the concept art that CCP first produced had specific areas of darkness which really enhanced them - and that somewhere along the line, the 'oomf' was, to a certain degree, lost...
Personally, I think the new nebulae are tremendous, and I too would love to see that quality of depth brought to wormholes. And in fairness to the OP of the other thread you referenced, I'd quite like to see the alpha maps of the new nebulae adjusted to bring back some of that excellent detail - however, as far as I know, that would require quite a bit of work sortof-hand-'painting' those parts back in, which is I hope, somewhere near the very bottom of CCP's priorities right now. |
