Edited by: Lagoon West on 15/11/2006 00:19:59 2100 hours on a Tuesday night, 14.11.06. I log on to EVE to be told I need a 5 Megabyte patch before I can play, so no big deal, I try downloading. Four attempts, four futile attempts later, I am told that my whole set of EVE files is corrupted and I need to re-install. WTF!!!? So I go back to the official website that I checked out before all this and find the patch is to assist future patches. I am now annoyed. But, what can you do? Eve files subsequently deleted/uninstalled. At least I have an EVE CD and can download to the latest version once its installed right? Wrong. After 3 attempts (and 3 hours) at downloading EVE from scratch using/not using the CD I am no further on. Yes, I read the posts on the forum but I had to go and find them. No, they were no help at all, only confirming that I am not the only dissatisfied customer. This is not bloody good enough.

Hells Bells!!!! The point is not that you sailed through without a problem but that a great many paying customers did not. I like EVE, been playing for over 2 years now with 2 accounts, so I want them to get it right. Perhaps I should have said I would like anyone who can help to pass on advice. My efforts tonight:- 1) 13.11.06 version patched with autopatch patch (5Mgb) resulted in corrupted Eve files for whole game 2) Eve collectors CD followed by relevant patch would not install as download corrupted 3) Full download from Eve site also resulted in corrupted files so no install Now I'm not daft, I have a good anti-virus/firewall/RAM cleaner etc so whats the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated but please don't post to tell me everything worked fine for you, grrrrrr Thanx in Advance

Edited by: Zeko Rena on 15/11/2006 02:06:49 Edited by: Zeko Rena on 15/11/2006 02:02:13 I highly doubt CCP would release a corrupt patch and a corrupt client, prehaps there is somthing wrong with your computer, hard drive dying?
Have you had any other problems with other applications, or prehaps its your internet, files can be corrupted while downloading it used to happy to me alot on dial up
EDIT: Have you tried using a program like "Getright" to download the EVE client?
EDIT AGAIN: Hmmm after reading the forum it seems theres a few problems, i cant play EVE till the weekend so i hope my client will be okay haha.

Sorry too say this but its all gone smooth for me too, Sounds like a local problem, ie, you have a corrupted hard-drive or memory stick, or maybe both.
I say that only because for most people it has gona smoothly with no problems, i think you should check these things out before you go slagging off CCP.
Pity they dont ban people for being d**ks, but there ya go

I must protest. I too have had severe problems with getting a working copy of the game client. I have downloaded on multiple machines (i own 4, plus the machines I'd used to download it at work) all using different methods and nothing seems to work for any of them. I've used different download managers, different web browsers, and i even dualbooted a machine with ubuntu and tried to download the client from there and move it over to a windows machina via samba but nothing has worked. I stand in defiance to anyone who says there's "nothing wrong with the client" because I have been trying for almost 2 months to get a working copy of EVE. Someone truely needs to look into this problem. CCP should atleast use a different insaller package than NSIS (which i believe they are using)

back in my ultima online alternative patching service time i noticed that quite a lot had trouble there, too its the same rtp patch system
patching is a memory intense process, and if ONE bit of your memory isnt working 100% it causes corruptions. usually you dont notice it while playing games, it could lead to a single pixel error over time or 1 wrong textchar, but patching reveals such problems quite easyly
you should try to check your memory, try memtest.
its not always CCP¦s fault ;)
and iam happy my ram is still working nicely after all those years, never had any patching issues ^^ ---

I'd like to say thank you to all who posted with similiar problems and suggestions for a cure. Sorry to say nothing has worked so far but its nice to know I'm not alone. To all who posted sarcastic replies, I only hope you get a better response from your fellow eve players than you supplied. It cuts both ways....... As CCP seem to be in denial, any further suggestions are most welcome

If EvE does not work after a clean install, it is almost always a problem with your hardware/software, not EvE.

I do apologize if you thought my reply was sarcastic and caused any upset, but its very annoying when people panic because there PC doesnt work and start slagging off CCP for every little problem when its obviously not there fault.
Try calming down and investigate the problem from your end, ie, memtest and scandisk. and any utility that checks your memory and hard-drive.

/me nods solemnly.
Maybe Lagoon West would prefer that CCP never patch again so that his conflicting hardware never causes him any friction with playing his favorite game. Maybe someone should call Microsoft and suggest that, since they monopolize the OS market, then they should also start making and supplying all of the hardware for the entire world as well. That way, no one will ever have software/hardware compatability issues! That way, when a game releases a 5mb patch... There wont be any problems!
But.. in a perfect world...

Just to chuck in my two penneth.
I too some time ago had to reinstall Eve and had huge problems. No matter how I tried to install be it from the CD plus patch or the whole program (downloaded from various locations on different machines) and every time it said my install was corrupt. I kicked off on this very forum and blamed everyone in the universe until a kind person suggested my memory might be knackered, turns out he was right. Can I suggest running a memory test as when I did it found literally thousands of errors. Just another viewpoint fo ya. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue...... |

I have 3 EVE installs on my PC (2 for the live server and 1 for the test server) only ever had issues with a few rare test server patches but never had to reinstall because of a corrupt TQ patch, as has been pointed out the issue is probably something closer to home as if there was a corrupt patch there would be a great many people moaning about not being able to play :) ---

OK, pardon me, but from reading the forums I was under the impression that there are a lot of people unable to play. Perhaps I read all those entries wrongly. They are there if you can be bothered to look. Anyway.......good news, I asked a friend to download the patch; he did, I transferred it, worked no problem. HURRAH! Bad news......I still don't know the cause of the problem. I have tried everything mentioned on this thread and nothing worked. My ISP is sound, Windows is fine after scandisk, you name it.....I tried it etc etc. I am still perplexed because the next patch may kickstart this problem again. Regardless, thanks all for the input. Nearly forgot, Vix3n mate, go f*** yourself

If you can run multiple clients from 1 install, why would you want three installs? Are they modded? Lol

Edited by: Foxtrot986 on 19/11/2006 03:47:49 The patch does not download for me either. Eve freezes after about .5 seconds of downloading and I have to ctrl-alt-del --> end task. I haven't tried a clean install. Oh, well. My subscription runs out in a few days anyway.
It's a good game, I just don't really have time to play it.

Update on my worries/problems and this is my last word. First, apologies to Vix3n, bad language was due to stress. Second, it appears I am the only person in the world who doesn't know that IE7 is to be avoided. Apologies to CCP if Internet Explorer 7 is the root of all evil. This was a microsoft update that got past my censor and seems to be unpopular and flawed. I'm just glad to be back in the game and I sincerely hope I can avoid similiar problems again.

Accepted. Next time you're stressed, I promise to use less sarcasm. Calm down though, people dont like to help other people that are pitching a fit and pointing fingers at the wrong people. I'm glad your problem got worked out. Welcome back to EvE.

I use IE7 without any problems, although, I don't specificly use IE7 (Avant Browser uses the IE engine) - I have, however, never had any problems with downloading patches. If you ever have problems downloading from the official servers, I usually put patches on my webserver (anything under 50mb), so you could always try that next time ( http://www.ravenwarriors.com/evepatch ). ---

Not accusing you Grez, but to everyone out there, always be aware and cautious when downloading .exe's from other players. Don't be the ginneapig in backdoor/keylogging scams. Try comparing MD5 hash's before running executables.

No offence taken. I support this 110%. Always beware of downloading EXE's from anyone, and if you're the slightest bit worried, just don't download them (I'm not forcing you (yet!)). There are images on the site there (under patches) that prove that I am who I am, and such (to help with any doubts if there are any).
