Edited by: Caol on 15/11/2006 08:22:49 So, are there any "closet" EQ2 players in Eve that have tried out the new expansion yet? My patch is still downloading here...

Edited by: Vazion on 15/11/2006 10:12:11 There is one amazing thing about EQ2 that I havn't seen on any other MMO..Well maybe on Eve..
And that is the community..The good people in the community..Not the lamers who say it sucks yet still play it..
The devs are some of the most amazing people I've ever seen, <insert Eve devs in this category too>, and they are truely good people..
I came over from EQ2 to here..The main problem with EQ2 is that it competes pretty much directly with WoW, while all MMOs are competeing on one level or another..Eq2 and WoW are like brothers of sorts..
<3 EQ2. Also another plus is that their office is an hour drive away..So I can stalk them whenever I want..*Purrs*

Ah i loved EQ2. Loved the player houses and the community, the graphics are pretty decent too (unlike the paper and only 2 polygon WoW). Yet i stopped playing it due to lack of people. I mean i hardly saw anyone around on my server not to mention the immense amounts of patches they released, basically EQ2 is nice but SOE can rot in hell. --------

Agreed. As for communities, I would say that because of the game mechanics; choosing a class etc; EQ2 has its fair share of whining - the difference from Eve being that there is a seperate forum for each different class and archetype (good and evil) ie 24 in total...perhaps in Eve all the moans you see are summed up in the Ships and Mods, Eve Discussion and a few others. In addition, all updates and changes are put in the update notes which is not the case in Eve, though some amount of "ignorance is blis" holds true here.
As for the the future of EQ2 and EoF, its one impressive visually virtual world with alot of lore/backstory added over time, adventuring, crafting, enough quests that could take you years to complete. EoF has definitely added to it ... but in the end, with each expansion it feels like past acheivements have been reduced somehow. The current combat changes are major, though they've been changing with time slowly with each update, which indicates to me no longterm plan for the game as a whole.
End of the day its a group game and with few people on servers (I play on one of the two EU (English) servers: RE) to group up with/chat etc, it gets dull fast and are left to grinding through raid zones/group instance zones repetitively. Sad though it may be, after this dust settles after this expansion i think server numbers will, as before, fall again.

I played EQ2 from the start till I came here earlier this year. I liked it but really missed PvP and when they brought out the PvP servers it was fun for a while but it always felt like it was bolted onto the PvE game.

So is there anything bad about EQ2 at all or should I just start playing? Sig removed does not contain your name, email [email protected] if you have any questions - Xorus |

Played EQ2 for over a year, from release til I could no longer stand it.
Maybe the game has gotten better, maybe it has gotten worse. But no, I won't be playing another SOE game for a LONG time. If ever. Not sure I ever want to play another "grind for level" game though. Maybe if CCP made one.
EQ2 community was alright. Not a whole lot different from what I've seen here in EVE, TBH.

I moved over the EQ2 when the NGE hit SWG, mainly cos most of my guild went there. The biggest problem for me was that im really not a swords and sourcery person, i prefer my content to be sci-fi.
The game was fine as long as i had goals for my toons. But eventually i just ran out of things i hadnt done on any of my toons. Ive got the expansion on the way to me in the post and will have some fun with my old guild until i get bored again. It should keep me entertained for a few months as something to play during downtime :D

I could write you a big list of negatives, but to be honest that would partially be because I played the game far too much in a short space of time. My advice would be to download a free demo and check it out.

I don't have the time to list all the bad things about EQ2. I would much rather spend that time playing EVE.
Then again, it's been almost 1yr since I stopped playing EQ2. Therefore, many of the things I mention, might no longer be valid.
So to be fair, if you're interested, download the free demo(if they have one) and see for yourself. Not you(dee ellis) specifically, but anyone who might be interested in it.
I just know that that game doesn't hold a candle to EVE when it comes to player interaction.
