Ya, I tweaked every graphics setting I could find to get it to run better. I know I lack a real graphics card (which actually wasn't an issue until REV bumped the requirements up), but to be able to play it and not go crazy I think I need something more than 5 fps
So, all this has really done is make me want a Mac with better graphics that I absolutely cannot afford to buy right now. Curse you Crossover! Curse you CCP!

IMPORTANT You do not need to manually install any files at all. It's all automatic and intelligent. A previous post on v6.1 was incorrect on this point.
FOR OLD MAC USERS CROSSOVER 6.0X Delete your old bottle, or uninstall Eve. Follow instructions below:
NEW MAC USERS Create a new Win200 bottle. Install the supported application. It's in the list of applications. If you already have an eve setup exe, you can nominate to use it. If you do not have the installer, CrossOver will download it for you. Crossover will also download Arial and DirectX to set up your bottle correctly.
Play.

Configuration? OS version? Conflicting apps? More info please.
Until then, try booting in safe mode (hold down Shift at startup until the Apple logo appears). If you have other network services running (file sharing, remote desktop, etc.) stop them. If this doesn't work, try erasing and reinstalling both EVE and Crossover.

Yes, maybe a little more info could help. I haven't heard about this problem yet though. Maybe try playing around with the Graphics settings when in char selection. And try re-installing CrossOver (look for the CrossOver settings folder in your Library as well). Remember to archive all the bottles you might want to keep. Oh and go to the forums: here The devs are usually trying hard to get it working on your machine as well.

Can anyone use antialiasing/multisampling in crossover? I set the advanced device line in the config file, and ive got an ati radeon x1900xl (so its certainly powerful enough), yet theres nothing in the multisampling popup menu except for disabled. Is this a shortcoming of the game with ati cards, or with crossover?

As stated on the previous page, you need to set 'voiceenabled' to '0' in your prefs.ini. All EveVoice subscribers (or even trial users) must do this.

Configuration: Mac Pro 2x3Ghz, 4GB ram, nVidia 7300, OS X 10.4.9 I don't think there are any conflicting apps, i pretty much killed anything that was running, besides Crossover... however, i stumbled upon a forum thread that said nVidia Mac Pros can't run EVE as of yet...

Okay. I was mainly concerned with whether you were trying this on an old Mini or something with a discreet graphics card. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a conflict between crossover and invidia's drivers. I've been really unimpressed with their driver support lately, it seems that all my friends' nvidia cards have given them fits or are just flat out not playing some games.
Based on other threads, though, it seems at least possible that with the next Rev patch we'll get an official CIDER-wrapped client that works without hiccups like yours. Here's hopin'

Umm, normally on a mac you hold down the ctrl key to bring up context menus, but I have no idea if this works as a right click in Crossover as I haven't used a mac with the default Apple mouse in a very long time. Honestly, the best thing I can suggest is to get almost any brand two-button or better mouse.
I had to laugh at the fact that EVE is the first game you've ever played on a mac, too. Not for malicious reasons, mind you, but for the fact that it's really not a Mac game at all. Even if CCP releases a CIDER wrapper for the client, it's still Windoze code.
By the way, welcome to Mac

Edited by: Kurfi'' Legimo on 24/05/2007 23:53:34 Hello,
I am thinkingof buying a new OS 10 mac book and I am wondering if "crossover" works with EVE well.
I am a long time PC user but I am fed up with all the errors.
If it does work than is it bearable?
Over 25 fps when out of stations?
BTW: I do NOT want to get virtual pc or any form of windows on the laptop.
I will be using the MacBook 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Any help please?

Already addressed this in the thread. On my MacBook I find EVE playable when I run it natively in Windows XP, but with Crossover it's choppy as all get-out. Certainly nowhere near 25 fps, even inside stations.
I don't know how well it runs under WINE/linux, but you could always install linux as a dual-boot setup and give that a shot. I prefer Xubuntu for it's minimal overhead and ease of configuration, but almost anything will run fine on a MacBook (though I couldn't get Freespire to work for me). If you want to play games, get a laptop with a discreet graphics card. MacBooks are all integrated Intel GMA 950 chipsets, MacBook Pros have ATI X1600 cards with either 128 or 256 MB video RAM.
Speculation on the release of an official Mac client can be found elsewhere in this thread / forum. Suffice it to say that it will make a lot of people happy
Also welcome to Mac!

I got Eve running at a decent framerate on my Macbook. Not a lot of configuration on the Crossover end which I was impressive by. Is there any way to fix the sound issue though?

Also, the sound issue has not been resolved by Codeweavers yet. I'd suggest checking their forums to see if that's on the to-do list.

I am actualy going to get the Mac PowerBook 2.33 Ghz
Its a good deal, better graphics card and 2 gigs of ram.
I think that It should run fine, and the Mac guy at the store said that it should run MMO's like a PC.

Like I said, I didn't have any problems installing Eve. I just used CrossOver 6.1's automated installation process. To get the game to run at a playable frame rate, I reduced several graphics options: I reduced the depth/stencil format to 28 bit z-buffer w/ 4 bit stencil, set the resolution to 1152x720, and reduced the color depth to 16 (although I dont know that really helps much).
Now, these settings allow me to play at a decent framerate. It does not help me with some bugs that I have run into so far. I've ran into several times where my ship will become unresponsive after warping (along with objects like planets and ships not loading when this happens). In order for me to get out of this, I have to exit the game. Then, upon reloading Eve, I'll have to change the graphic settings again since it doesn't look CrossOver saves the settings I've changed in-game. I've also noticed laggy mouse speed as well.
I hope this helps
Edit: oops, I should mention that I'm using a plain ol' Macbook

Well, I can "play" just fine, tweaking my setup in station, running courier missions, changing skills, etc. When it comes time to fight and 15-20 ships lag my view to the point that i'm measuring seconds per frame, I consider that a slight hinderance. For now I'm perfectly happy to play on a decent desktop setup if I want to do anything that's not afk-able.
As a side note, has anyone else had the bug where you can't move the cursor all the way to the bottom of the screen? I've had this on two different machines, and it makes opening the chat window once you've closed it impossible.

That is why I suggest changing the resolution to 1152x720. For some reason, I have that same problem when I play at full 1200x800. Changing it to 1152x720 makes minimized windows reachable again (for me atleast). Give it a try!
Also, I am having issues with combat framerate as well. I don't think it is an issue with CrossOver per se. My Macbook doesn't have the game-worthy video card that the Macbook Pro has, so that is probably why ( I could be wrong tho).

No, you're absolutely right. Since there is not an actual graphics card in the MacBook, Crossover tricks EVE into thinking it has one through emulation. This requires a lot of work on the part of the CPU, and can mean higher graphics quality in less demanding situations (station, warp), but also causes problems when it's asked to do not one, or two, but twenty things at once.
Interesting point about the resolution. My desktop uses 1440x900, and it has the same problem. Seems a little awkward...

thats not strictly true. onboard video isnt a separate card, but it is a gpu, so it does take the strain of graphical stuff. more of a problem is the vram, which the macbook uses its normal physical ram for, and that clogs up the buses and generally slows things down. without a gpu the graphical stuff would be emulated in software and be shunted onto the cpu, but software emulation became a thing of the past a long time ago due to all computers now having gpus. the high cpu usage of crossover is down to both the game and the extra function translations that have to be carried out to get it to work in osx. more ram should help to speed things up, or installing the game to an external firewire hard drive.
since i didnt get an answer to my earlier question ill try again. does antialiasing work for anyone? if you have a mac pro and the answer is no, please say so.

I hope this is the right place to post.
I have a MacBook pro Os 10.4.7 and i cannot run Eve with CrossOver 6.1
I get up to the character selection screen and it vanishes before i can do anything.
I tried to modify the "voiceenabled" to 0, but the line does not existe in the "..Program Files/CCP/EVE/cache/prefs.ini" file. I added the line, but it still did not work.
Could anyone help please ?

You're in the right place, Diab. A few suggestions: Erase Crossover and the old EVE installation. Run software update for pete's sake and get up to 10.4.9 (I doubt this has anything to do with your problem, but it's a good idea anyway). Then reinstall Crossover then use it's automated installation process to grab EVE.
I had a similar problem getting a previously downloaded client install to work. Letting Crossover do the work seems to be the most reliable method. _______________________________________________________________

Now i got my macbook pro :) Installed the demo for crossover and eve and it worked like a charm. i have only tested in station and there fps was very good no lag at all.
Very easy install, just select eve in supported apps and a way you go.
The only thing i noticed was that all the windows in eve were completely transparent. is it like that or is it a setting i have missed?
