So the problem exists that when a corp becomes inactive (either all its members leave or they drop their subs) the towers that the corp owns do not disappear from space. They may run out of fuel, but effectively become a stumbling block in the way of active corporations. Now there is no real content there, the corp is gone (and therefore not defending their POS) and so what fun would be had is simply turned into the grinding down of a substantial target. This problem is exacerbated when the corporation has several towers.
Another topic (here) discussed some other methods for taking out offline towers.
My thoughts were that, with the proposed introduction of entosis modules, we could see a new mechanic for either taking POSs outright, or at the very least, taking POSs that are offline. The standard thinking, of blapping the tower until it 'splodes, is all well and good but, with the changes to capitals, has made it difficult to move assets around to deal with these issues effectively (what CCP gives, it also takes).
Entosis Links and you We know that the Entosis links are going to be a new method for capturing systems. This is justified as being a link between the capsuleers and the computer systems that control the systems. We are going to see their application against stations and the new fangled hubs, so why not structures as a whole? There would need to be some way of checking and balancing the act (perhaps a reinforcement before it can be finally captured), but would, effectively, enable someone to capture a POS that was not theirs.
If the POS were offline, this is probably a more straightforward deal. However, with an online POS, maybe we could see negative effects (tracking disruption, CPU reduction etc.) akin to EWAR modules targeted at ships. |

wardec them and blow them up, if the corp is defunct no-one will fight back.
ed: and no to capturing, they should be destroyed otherwise the manufacture of them dies. |

This is the point, that isn't content (i.e. enjoyable), it's a waste of time and ISK, which could be better spent on other areas of the game.
Being able to board other pilots ships when they are empty hasn't destroyed the ship manufacturing market. I highly doubt that being able to capture, what are unoccupied, stations would destroy the POS market. |

War dec and blow them up and put up your own. Don't want to put forth that effort? Then you didn't really want that moon to begin with.
Magical sov lasers are already enough of a joke they don't need the added hilarity of also have the magical ability to exchange ownership of towers with little effort from 1 person (offline or otherwise). |

Is this really a designed in piece of the game? Do CCP intend to have unsubbed players hanging around on moons or was the intention to have POSs as used and usable structures?
Is it really just me that finds the ability for unsubbed players to affect the day to day running of other corps pointless? |

Is it really just me that finds the ability for unsubbed players to affect the day to day running of other corps pointless? If the player is really unsubbed, then there will be zero resistance in your clearing their POS off the moon you want. You'll be able to park a single Oracle on it, hit f1, and go do something on another alt while it reinforces, and later destroys the POS.
Of course, it's entirely possible that the person who controls the POS on the moon you want merely logs in when you're not on, meaning they will contest your destruction of their POS. We in EvE refer to this as content. Content is a good thing.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.

Wardec them and use a handful of cap stable oracles. Start shooting the POS before you go to work, and it should be done by the time you get home.
if 50 mil is too much for you to pay, then you don't want that moon. |
