It seems that great MMOs are very rare. What are some MMOs that you consider to be the greatest? And what are some MMOs that you are anticipating their release?
I will start
The greatest MMO to me is Eve Online. Nothing comes close that I know of, at least not yet. I've tried other sandboxish MMOs like Mortal Online and even Perpetuum which is like a ground-based clone of Eve. Also tried more commercial MMOs like Age of Conan which might be the worst game I've ever played.
There are a few MMOs that I am anxiously waiting for. One is No Man's Sky the only problem with this one is it's going to be on PS4 before it is on PC which kind of pisses me off. It still looks amazing though. I think Star Citizen is overhyped by far, but I still have hopes for the game. For fantasy there is this game I was reading about called Revival which seems to be kind of dark, gothic fantasy MMO. It sounds very interesting because the direction they are taking seems to be a unique one they don't like the mainstream MMO industry and they want to fix it which is the type of thing that I like.
Another fantasy one that looks pretty good is Albion Online. This one definitely looks unique, it's a fantasy sandbox MMO , kind of like a mix of like runescape, diablo, ultima online. You can like mine gold and silcer and you can actually buy mounts and like ox carts and ****, it looks pretty good.
With all that said I'm just looking for great games to play. MMOs are the pinnacle of multiplayer gaming and I want to find the best ones out there. If you guys could link me to some current or upcoming MMOs that you think are great I would really appreciate it, thank you. |

Perpetuum lots pretty interesting, from the website. Would you recommend it? I don't have any recommendations for MMOs, unfortunately. I'd be interested in hearing any recommendations as well.

Asheron's Call was great, in the beginning, before level 30 or so when it started to become a grind. I tried revisiting it a couple years ago but it was rejigged to accommodate higher level players, and they were adding a bunch of goofy beast races and stuff for playable characters. Blah.
The early days of exploring the world were a blast though. No zoning, no guidance, no heavy handed story or questing. Just wander off in a random direction and discover stuff. Was a great game for explorers and treasure hunting types.
Supposedly the game is going free to play and people will be able to host their own servers. Would be cool if someone hosts an old school server with the game in its launch-day state. Probably not even possible. |

I don;t have any current mmo recemndations, onc ei found eve in 2004 that was pretty much it. No other mmo i have tried since has ever intrested me.
Ever quest 1 was on, i played it for a few months and got bored. Mostly because my buddies i played with were higher level and in different parts of the map.
Earth and Beyond was a fantastic mmo, was a good balance on the lvl system, and i enjoyed it till EA killed it.
I played wow for 2 hours back in 05 have not touched it since.
Tried star trek in beta, and went 'nope'
Watched someone play star wars and also went 'nope'
Friends talked about conan before they fixed a lot of the 'fun issues' never played
No mans sky.. meh not eve.
Elite looks dull from what i am hearing right now, i might try that in a year after some stuff is fleshed out.
SC.. yea, i think its going to be a giant ball of fail. Will be shocked if it gets completed, will be more shocked if its not a hot mess.
I hate these threads cause, well, i am a self professed eve fan boi and addict. The day i completely stop playing eve is the day they drag my cold body to the furnce and burn me. Or the day CCP shuts down the game.. but then i'll jump on any band wagon to revivie it ala the enb emulator community.

I don't have any recommendations for MMOs, unfortunately. Every one I've tried lately just didn't hold my interest at all. I'd be interested in hearing any recommendations as well. I don't know if I would recommend it. It's very similar to Eve though. It's just ground-based robots and such. It was pretty fun. I think they go by real time skillpoint build up or something, so if I could find my old account info for that game, my guy on there would probably have a **** TON of skillpoints to use up. |

The greatest MMO ever created is World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. But EVE Online has much more longevity.
I can't use Mozilla Firefox to post in the EVE Forums. Please help, CCP! I'm dying!

Eve has a combination of great things that no other game has. Right off the bat it's got great graphics and beautiful cosmic vistas in a seemingly endless universe. The graphics in this game are surprisingly good when you consider the depth of it all. You're free to be whoever you want and to do whatever you want, the game is heavily geared towards pvp, and it all happens in a persistent world with player-run economy. It's got the whole package.
I agree about Elite. Maybe an Elite Dangerous fanboy could explain to us what is good about this game, but as far as I can tell, it isn't even really an MMO, it's more of just a space combat game. I'll probably do a bit more research because I was actually interested in this one a while ago but I kind of forgot about it.
The thing about No Man's Sky man... of course it is not Eve, that's one of the best things about it really, it's not like any other game that I've heard of. It's a procedurally generate, infinite universe. I'm not sure if it's actually infinite, but I think it is closer than any other game in history. Supposedly there are over 18 quintillion planets in the game, and every single one of them can be traveled to and landed on. And every one of them will have different aspects to it, some will contain life others will not, there is even underwater gameplay in this game if I am not mistaken.
A problem with No Man's Sky, that I don't actually personally see it as a problem, but it's something that people talk about, is that because of how big the game is, it's actually going to be pretty hard for players to even find each other. It's insane. The possibilities with this game are endless and I think the developers behind it really know what they are doing. Again with all great games I think graphics are one of the most important aspects and this game has pretty great graphics for what it offers. And it has a completely different vibe and feel from Eve, which is good because as great as Eve is sometimes it would be good to play something different. In No Man's Sky it's also first-person, and you can actually get out of your ship and walk around on planets. It's got everything. |

Of all time... likely SWG pre-cu/pre-nge. Was all about rhe Bounty Hunter, yummy jedii tears. Then always action in the GCW (Faction war). Of top 3, early UO and EVE. I do very much miss the BH system in SWG, was well done.

EVE - for PVP Wurm - for world building Anarchy - for solid PVE team playing and more advanced "fitting" than EVE.

Revival looks interesting if they can pull it off. I encourage everyone who's up in arms about CCP's pricing to have a gander at its housing options.
No Man's Sky takes me to my happy place.
Neither is EVE, but that's fine. I already have EVE. These games (and Elite) are cool because they offer something wildly different.
