On a recent visit to Minmatar space I happened to tune into some of their local broadcasts.
Of course we all know that Minmatar public entertainment is not the most intellectual but I was sitting in a station waiting for a contact and had nothing better to do...
Anyway, I came across what can only be called a Minmatar game show.
The best and brightest amongst the Minmatar were being asked a series of what are, for them, extremely challenging questions and given four potentially correct answers to chose from.
Needless to say the standard was pretty poor and a well educated Amarrian four year old could have won the contest singlehanded.
One particular question and answer DISPLAYED HERE really summed the contest up for me. See the look of concentration and desperation on the poor Minmatar's face...clearly these people need help - our help - Amarrian help.
It's for their own good...

Why the Minmatar chose that is beyond me...

Edited by: Davlos on 17/11/2006 09:55:32 Just what we needed. More psuedo-high browed mockery. If the Minmatar truly needed "help", much less from your ilk, they would find it amongst themselves.
A "well-educated" Amarrian four year-old with his head full of God will not be able to tell the fantasy of his "Chosen of God" status from the reality the challenge of life which every person faces that a normal Minmatar four year-old learns from infancy.
Enjoy your fantasy. ---------------

Edited by: Ralitge boyter on 17/11/2006 10:45:32 I pitty the Ammar empire for producing fools like your self. The fact that you see the people on a game show as the best and brightest of our kind clearly indicates that you your self are not among that elite of your own kind.
A well educated 4 year old would as the previous speaker says would not have the slightest notion of truth or reality. The travesty that is seen as education within the Ammar empire would be described by any civilized nation as brain washing. Instead of offering your own ofspring a decent education you pump them full of a fantasy story so outrages that you have to kill to be able to prevent the lie from being unmasked.
The guidence you speak of is not asked for nor is it required. Should you want to make a fool out of your self and your nation ever again please do not bother others with this nonsense.
------------------------------------------- Should you disagree with me, well I guess that is because I disagree with you. If you have a problem with that please feel free not to tell me. |

A compliment Hardin? Surely an oversight on your part.
Anyway, these questions always seem easy when you're at home, but under the pressure of the studio and the viewer it's hard!

I love how the Amarr, though technologically superior to the Minmatar in every way, still need to forge 'evidence' of their greater intelligence. You pulled that off an old holo-reel that I own! Terrible show but good for laughs. ---

At the least I'd have expected the Brutor to do the whipping on the host.
So how do Amarrian game shows run anyway?
"Quoteth thee the 125th Sermon of Emperor Anedrine 25th, page 752, paragraph 2, lest holy light shall purge thee!"
.. And the crowd goes wild as the candidate starts singing the words.
Dunno about you, but I sort of appreciate the way Brutor game shows can go rumble-tumble from an instant to the next, especially if the security guys managed to let someone smuggle in weaponry. --

Bah, from a relativist's point of view, the man isn't necessarily wrong. Of course, this game show is not meant as a philosophical discussion on personnal preceptions so I understand your amusement at the man's expense.
Still, as you said, the Elephants are mythical creatures rumoured to be of ginormous size. I have heard stories where these creatures could blot out the sun and trample whole worlds in their wake. Considering the shamanistic and animist ways of our people this kind of reply is absolutely understandable and even shows an interesting insight in our culture.
Another example of this could have been: "What is the most dangerous" A. Pew Pew B. A dull butter knife C. A wolf D. Hardin's ego
Now see, in these choices, a lot of people would say right away that the answer is is "D" without another thought. Our Sebiestor friend might have said something different. As any educated Matari will know, the Wolf is a mythical creature of great power who could rend whole continents apart with his fangs. From this perspective, he might have said the most dangerous of these four choices is the wolf. Of course, we all know how dangerous Mr. Hardin's ego is but between fangs that can destroy a continent and something that will mostly blow hot air, I think the choice is an easy one.
Showing pride in your culture is commendable but I must say that taking the time to understand and see other cultures for all the intellectual riches they can bring you will show more quality in your character than any sermon will.
And please, if you feel the need to reply to this, leave your imaginary friend out of it. He's caused enough trouble as it is.

Just be honest, it is because those shows you want to "reclaim" the minnies, you just don't want to be left out from all the fun

You know, if you remove the tattoos and the piercings, that individual has a distinctly Amarrian cast to his face. Contaminate the gene pool, have we?
As for "game shows" ... Proud Matari people! This is what friendship with the Gallente has led you to! What will be next? Will random individuals allow entire holovid crews to follow them around as they go about their daily lives, all to satisfy the voyeuristic impulses of the degenerate Gallente populace? WHERE WILL IT END?! _

Arges is mostly right here. We had a bit of a foreign student exchange program going on at Todaki, and what hits you first time you meet the Minmatar is that they have a very well developed mythology, full of ancient and quite interesting stories. Many of those stories feature animals of awesome power and size and cunning. Amarr students on the other hand were mostly about.. well.. GAWD! Except one or maybe two of them, who's names I will not disclose, fearing they might suffer for it, Amarr students are so locked-up-and-thrown-away-the-key in their ways of life I kept wondering how can they actually learn anything that requires imagination or improvisation.
So anyway, that guy, being featured on a TV show, was definitely not the smartest one out there (no smart person ever goes to a show like that!), but he had all the cultural prerequisites to easily make such a mistake.
On a side note the second thing that hits you square in the face when dealing with Matari is a brutor girl's iron fist marked "What are you staring at?". Smart and open minded as they are they could maybe try controling themselves a little bit.

Edited by: Babs Johnson on 17/11/2006 19:30:40 Hardin, darling, every time I look at you I am reminded of the ancient preserved photographs I saw as a child in the Library of the Federation of the beasts thought to be remote ancestors of the human race.
My dear Hardin, but for the length of your hair, you look remarkably like these brutes--thick brow, square jaw, and vacant stare and all. And we mustn't forget the reduced cranial cavity.
So given that one need not have a doctorate in anthropology to determine that you clearly are a descendant of these doltish creatures and most likely share their intellectual capacity, you have no place to comment on the intelligence level of a member of another race. Or indeed even of another Amarrian.
Now go away, you silly man.

Give it up Amarrian. The Minmatar don't need you, your books or your Amarrian madness. If the Minmatar are going to die on the vine due to their own incompetence then so be it. But if your society "needs" weak individuals then that speaks volumes about the Amarr. ________________________________________________________________________________ "My once immaculate white pants are now stained from the weak and innocent.
