now, obviously this is a "fake". the auction may be real but i highly doubt the high bidder will be able to pay for something like that.
funny though.

Looks like a bunch of unregistered users started spamming it with bogus bids quite a bit before...
Must be annoying for the seller though, cuz he had some nice bids going before his auction got hijacked :P

I think ppl were spaming all the PS3 auctions with stupid bids. Their way of saying they wished Sony had just made enough to supply ppl and not have a few people who could 1. buy from the shops they worked at or 2. could pay some1 to queue up for one, take all the day 1 stock and ebay it.

Worse than the auction is the actual physical, and potentially DEADLY violence that has been reported.
Many muggings, fights, trampling.
It's absolutely ridiculous how stupid some people are being over a toy...
Perhaps they should require IQ tests before you are allowed to own one of these things. Kill two birds with one stone. Stop "Games made my son murder!" and "I was shot for my PS3 SPOT IN LINE!"

Drives up hype. With the Wii being released 2 days after the PS3, Sony wanted to make sure the people went for the PS3 because it was in short supply so they would get more money. If they did not create a shortage, and there were enough to go around, people would stop and think about what system they wanted and, may choose the Wii over PS3. That said Nintendo is releasing between 2 and 4 million Wii Consoles on launch day, so they are going to cash in on the disgruntled PS3 players who counldn't get one. In the end, PS3s bad decision helps the competition.

I had a friend who won a Laptop in a writing contest. I talked her into selling it on eBay and we made the mistake of putting down "World Shipping".
The winning bid was from a Nigerian who bid $15,000 then sent an email saying that he couldn't pay that and that he would send $1,500 once he recieved his shipment notice.
Needless to say, we reported him and got the money back it cost us in eBay fees for that $15,000 bid.
This is the same thing. --------

"The competitor is releasing their console 2 days after ours - what to do? omg, I know, let's make a supply shortage of our stuff so they can't buy it, that should teach them to not buy that Wii stuff."
Not being able to sell enough consoles at first is more likely to make ppl buy a Wii tbh. Nintendo should send a thank you letter to Sony if it actually is a marketing ploy.
Edit : Gaah, I should have read the entire post before replying. I blame lack of sleep. Oh well, at least we agree.
