So at fanfest, Oveur said something, as far as i recall, about some speed nerfs. He said that some of the faster ships would get a nerf.
Im a fan of fast ships, mainly frigate sized(Ceptors/AF/Dictors i lub big time ), and the STABBER! I have also been thinking about having a look at the nanophoon! It is said to go faster then normal cruisers They are such amazing ships to fly. They might not be a good DPS wise, but i do damage, and it runs fast like!!! The speed is such a great thrill. And it requires good reflects, to manage the speed.
I see one problem with it tho. Eve, as any other games, only send x packets, every x seconds. This makes the game seem like it have "ticks"(This can be seen on the overview, on how often the distance, for instance, is changed). I would love to have the "ticks" go quicker. This would make the game go more smooth. Yes, i know. This is not a space sim. But still. But not even this, can break my love to fast ships
But with Oveur saying that, im afraid of my lovely ships, getting nerfed Is there any info out there yet, on what really is gonna happen? Or was it just hot air? I do see that, for instance the vagabond, are likely to get nerfed(And the nanophoon? ). But i also heard rumors, that Ceptors will get nerfed.
Fast ships are good against big ships, because their tracking often are very bad. But if you make some of the fast ships, to slower, and do not change tracking, this will be a HUGE nerf to small ships. It will eventually make battleships solo gank mobiles.
So, whats up?

After they made it impossible for a ship to take on targets bigger than itself and win (everything will just outtank you), they want to make the ships that rely on more player rather than ingame skills more killable. The one with the biggest battleship wins more.
EVE is heading towards its opposite idea.... I liked how combat didnt allways rely on the ammount of your skillpoints and ISK... Unfortunately, it looks like it wasnt intended to be like that... ---

If this is done before other issues are addressed, and if it's not done right (as usual) then there's every chance this will push Minmatar from 'we can whine but at least we're playable and have some good ships' to 'absolutely pointless'.
Saying that, my accounts are still cancelled, so why should I care...

Skillpoints, ISK, and number of ships you have in a fight.

the faster ships are the crow and vagabond really. the crow may bneed a slight nerf, im not sure tbh, the vagabond does need a slight nerf that i do know.
doesnt have to be a major nerf.

Sure, why not? We're already down due to our new ships being nerfed. Might as well kick us.

They could just aswell make it, so that if you lock a ship thats bigger then your self(Like a frigate lock a battleship), you blow up. Its not like you wanna waste the time of the big ship

the vagabond is overpowered , slightly, and does need a nerf, has been discussed in numerous threads. its not a nerf its a rebalance (if it happens)

Funny how its a discussion when the gallente is doing it, and a whine when minmatar is doing it.... strange how those things work.
Too bad we picked a race who's big two differentiating factors (alpha strike and speed) are about to be nerfed.

Crow should be the slowest interceptor by a mile, I never understood why its so fast.
Extendabond in Kali is nuts compared with other HACs. A slightly slower Vagabond would still pwn Zealots and Deimoses with ease.
What worries me is if they lower speed by class, or do a universal percentage based speed nerf. That would make blasters more useless than Civilian Gatling Guns.

All that's speaking for the Vagabond is that it is fast. Take the speed away and you end up with a way subpar HAC. It doesn't tank good. It doesn't have firepower. Drones *cough* Electronic warfare isn't its best side.
We kinda fought off the last speed nerf of our ships - at least partially by some people bringing a lot of numbers. As those people are mostly banned or inactive now, way to go!
And we really loved the reason Tux presented us after we pressed him very hard for it: Because. --*=*=*--

Its just that time when its time to cross train gallente. Doesnt take that long, and a lot of the skills can be used with gallente ships as well.

Well imho something should be done about speed.
Imho intercpetors should be fastest and with all ultra modules and stuff shouldnt go faster then 6km/s.Everything else slower.Vagabond should be fast but maybe just a bit slower...
I personally feel its tottaly broken when i hear poeple flying 7-8 km/s in vagabonds or 14km/s in inties. And no matter how many implants or officer gear you put.
Imho.

Corrected for you. ------------------------------------------ Every ship has a base 60-70% resist against the primary damage type of the race that is the least able to vary it's damage types. |

It's been my personal belief that all ships should have the same max velocity, just factor in mass, agility, and thrust. AB/MWDs would simply make you accelerate faster.
Webifiers would make you 'heavier', not slower.
Speed enhancing skills/implants could instead affect mass or thrust.
Make the speed cap 5km/s, but make it take forever for Titans to get there, while inties can literally leap to 5 km/s.
Extend Webber range to 20-40 km, since it would no longer kill your speed, just your acceleration.

Tell me it's not satisfying to finally nail down and kill someone who travels that fast. You know you've just hurt their wallets.
Vagabonds will be a lot easier to kill after the WCS nerf.
What would Minmatar have left if our speed was nerfed too? Split weapon systems (aka 'versatility')?

Uh. Sure. That would be the ULTIMATIVE DEATH of interceptors. We would have to orbit at 40 then. But then we cant have any points.

I think I remember when he said that. Iirc he got a question whether we were gonna make some super fast small ship. I had a beer at the time so I may remember this differently, I can tell you that I don't know about any impending speed nerf for whatever thats worth. _______________ |

Edited by: Shin Ra on 22/11/2006 17:52:52 Quite the opposite. With KALI, ships are much MUCH faster.
To the point of stupidness.
Crusader @ 26km/s Zealot @ 43km/s
The crusader is the most agil ship I've flow. Even going 26km/s, its turn 180 faster than a shuttle. Inertia stabs are crazy. The crusader was easily able to maintain the speed.
The get the zealot up to that speed (took a minute or so) we had to have two logistics ships 1000km apart in a straight line giving the xealot cap as it flew by :)

My skills would support that easily. For the Machariel I got a couple of levels of Gallente ship skills trained. I'd just have to add some levels of hybrid weapon skills. If I only could stand the designs ... Can you still change the ship textures?
I'd appreciate it if there was any official information about that.
That those speeds are in range of the pilots again wasn't big news. A simple calculator would have told you so too. --*=*=*--

Yeah but the vaga is slower than the zealot when using 100mn MWDs due the the fact a zealot only requires 1 low slot for fitting mods. The vaga ends up at 30km/s i think as it has less overdrives on.
