I started this game just over 5 weeks ago, and knew I'd found something I liked so I purchased it half way through the trial. At first I didn't know what I wanted to be so I tried all kinds of different skills and diluted my points to lots of different professions. Now I find out that soon characters are going to start with 800,000sp, when I only have 850,000sp after playing for 5 weeks. I've been running missions for weeks to get a 5.7 faction with spacelane, and now new characters are going to get even more then that too. A new character can focus his points and surpass my level of specialization right off the bat, even though I've been playing all this time.
For me advancement is a part of the enjoyment, and building a character and watching him progress is exciting. To have new characters leapfrog all my progress is a very hard pill for me to swallow. The fact that my last months fee could of purchased 150 million ISK makes it even worse. I could of had more skills, more faction and 150 million ISK. How can this not be considered a kick in the face to newer players? Do they actually expect me to delete my character and start all over, and just forget the last month of hopes and enjoyment planning my character and playing him?
This just seems way too cruel to newer players. Since I heard this here in this forum, I've had almost no will to actually play anymore. I hope a fix is announced so I can find the inspiration to continue playing.

In 5 weeks you should be somewhat close to surpassing 800k SPs, and even if you aren't, you've now gained 5 weeks worth of experience and assests which you can move to the new char if you feel the need.
However having 600k sps in skills you wnat might be better than 800k in skills that you don't need yet (600k SPs in learning > 800k in other stuff imo).

You didn't waste anything because you were playing the whole time. For christ's sake the game is about playing and having fun not training skills all day. You still should be training faster than those players and pass them because of implants/learning.

Point 1: As someone stated to the same topic: eve != SP, SP != eve. apart from the SP, you had another thing in that month: the fun of PLAYING. You have experience. You know much more what to do and how to make money etc than the new guys will who are going to start in the future.
Point 2: Whenever you change ANYthing ANYwhere, some people are affected. Someone will always cry "NOOOOO. NOT ME!!!!!!" You can't simply please everyone perfectly. It's the same as in politics. There are 1000000000 things that would have to be done and changed. And everyone knows it. Almost everyone even agrees on it.
But as soon as you start to touch anything that concearns anybody, you get millions of lobbiistic "NOOOOOO. NOT ME!!!!" screams.
Point being: Don't take it too hard. You're one of the people that are affecte by it. That is sad (honestly) But you still have your advantages.
Try to see the global improvement it gives instead of only the "NOOOOOO. NOT ME!" point of view. -- This game is still in beta stage |

Um you could have started with 300K SP if you chose the right set up. Not all set ups are 800k btw.
Saying you dont want to play becasue of something thats coming in the future?? Come on it is a game after all.
Sure its possible that some one will start with close to the same SP you have. Thing is you know more about the game than a new player and have more ISK Items eetc
You Paid to Play a game you have been playing so you might as well play out your time you paid for.
I just started two months ago and the new characters will have it easier than I did. They wont have what I have or my knowledge.
I look at this as a good thing because I can now make a nice alt to also play with and skill up alittle rather than focusing so much on one player.
This is a great change its just on how you look at it.

Yeah its true, this is a GOOD change.
it just sucks for everyone caught in this limbo where their char is around 1 month old....
just take it in stride, and if you think re-rolling is the way to go. Just create a new char (under you teriary alt slots) escrow your stuff to the new char, and your good to go!

I understand that you are upset with the change BUT having created a relativly new char you still have the advantage. After playing for some time (and i hope you had fun) you will know what you did wrong with your char creation (i know i did several mistakes i couldnt iron out befor it was too late) and start a new char.
ISK can be transfered and chars can be optimized. Work with that and have fun!

I now have significantly more than 800k sp's, and this still ****es me off.
There is only one fair way to do this and this is to bump every character that is is below 800k sp up 800k sp.
People can get all philosophical about how you have all this extra experience and crap, but 800k sp is a gap that will take months to make up.even with all advanced learnings to 4 and a set of implants u can realistically only hope to train 1 mill sp a month.
A free bump seems the only fair way to do it.

Edited by: VeniVici on 23/11/2006 02:53:09 Chakra I'm in the same boat and pushing for something to be done about this. But the same arguments keep coming up against this kind of concern for new players:
1) SP != EVE, EVE != SP -If this is true, please stop training, it isn't needed for you to fully enjoy this game. Come on, if SP has no part of EVE then why is it there? Why is it the only in game commodity that is actually strictly regulated?
Isk you can get by selling GTC, standing you can have someone else power you through (tag along in a bunch of level 4's and you'll understand), knowledge you can get through a trial account. Skill points tho are only substantially available to you if you pay to play
2) Rerolling Rerolling for some is not an option for many. I have my own post trying to quanitify the costs, and my latest efforts put me at a 22 day loss if I stick with my build, and a 29 day loss if I reroll
3) 800k is a special case not the norm This is patently false. Check out this post. Look at the screens, sure as heck doesn't look like a special case to me. One person even posted on another thread that they have Missile Bombardment V out of creation (not a dev gift, but a natural result of creation). That's a Rank II skill at Level V...how does that make any sense for a new player to have?
4) Further kicks to the face Early Sisi reports have claimed that advanced learning skills now only need the basic learning skill at Level 4 to learn. As most kali builds start with at least one learning skill at level 4, that means instant access (given 4.5 mil isk) to start doing advanced learning skills. Say goodbye to the 21 days you spent training those level 5 learning skills as they will now be obsolete (i.e. it'll take about 480 days for you to make back the time you spent on them)

/me trains about 1.5m sps a month.
You can't just give 'a free bump', because SP don't work like that, and being able to just pick where it goes isn't going to happen.
People couldn't change bloodlines in RMR, they're not getting a boost to sps of existing chars now, DEAL WITH IT.

given the right kind of skills, i can train up to 1.8m a month if I stick with gunnery and ship command and I have +3 implants and my adv learning skills are only to lvl 3. People need a dose of reality on these forums once and a while. So much whining.

the one and only rule for Eve is never put all your eggs in one basket. if someone was masochist enough to max out their learning skills before anything else, then they are probably the kind of person that would enjoy a kick in the face....

I know at least 5 new players quitting over this. Only 2 days after upgrading their trial.
And if the advanced learning skills only require level 4 to train after revelations, I will know another 5 experienced players wanting to do the same.
I understand CCP needs to make these kind of changes from time to time, but I think in this regard it could have been handled a little bit better. for example, stretching the starting SP increase over a few months instead of switching it on overnight.
