Oxford English Dictionary definition of cloak : (Verb) 'To cover or hide.' So if you can be seen on scanner how can you hide? Your presence is already given away by local that should be nerf enough. |

If I recall correctly the "nerf" is _not_ to the role of covert ops and recon ships.
It's to the really lame tactic of parking 4 recons in a system, and then going afk. So you'll still be able to scout and stuff in a recon/covert, but you won't be able to just sit there utterly invulnerable, occasionally smacking, and keeping a whole system interdicted for long periods of time for zero effort.

Yes they're 'nerfing' the ability to sit cloaked and be completely impossible to find.
Everything should have a counter, right now if yu warp to a SS and cloak, that has no counter. Like James noted, if you have 4 ships sitting cloaked in a system, you can disrupt it for your enemies and not ever do anything.

Cloaks are not being nerfed. The entire system of cat and mouse, cloaking, hiding and scanning is being rebalanced.

Will cloaked ships be findable with the scanner or with a special anti-cloak probe? Or both?

I'm pretty sure you can only probe for them, they wont turn up on scanner. -----

Truth be told, you'd have a VERY difficult time finding a cloaked force recon. Sensor strength of the cloaked ship modifies the radius of the detection sphere. Against a Falcon, you'd be lucky to land closer than 100km from it due to it's 28 sensor strength. Anyone that's parked afk for long enough for you to find them in a 100km radius sphere deserves to die ____________________

And, ofc, you can bounce around from ss to ss while still cloaked. or planets at random distances. With a cov ops cloak, the chances of being decloaked while doing that are small:) You just have to be at the keyboard :)

They just changed cloaking from Immunity, to your definition, hiding.
Now look up the definition of scan, which will probably be something like, to look for, to search.
So you can still hide, but people who look for you can still find you, kinda like hide-n-seek back when I was a tot.

yes, it's a nerf from the "OMG I CLOAK YOU CAN'T FIND ME NANANANANANANANAAAA" state to "OMG I CLOAK BUT I STILL NEED TO THINK ABOUT MOVING!" state.
imho a welcomed change. -------

even then you can warp to a random safe spot and just move in a random direction (under cloak). Slow, but less chance of them landing on top of you if you arent there any more. An interceptor with a cloak and a load of nanos or hull converstions can get to about 150-175 m/s whilst cloaked with an improved or faction cloak, they'd never find you even if you are showing on scanner.

Firstly, I said more than one word.
It is important to note this since your mindset is fixed upon the treatment of cloaks in isolation, whereas my statement applies to the rebalancing of the entire hiding and detection system.
If you take the time to look beyond your limited view of the treatment of cloaks to how the new system will function, you might appreciate the effort the devs are making to balance the whole.

For the 50th time. You can NOT scan/probe for cloaked ships in Kali.
I don't know if the devs changed their minds or what but on SiSi atm you can NOT find cloaked ships with probes, NOT.

Really this change does nothing but a) force you to warp around if the enemy has probes and b) actually be playing the game while cloaked at a safe spot. It's still going to be very hard to find cloaked ships, and next to impossible to catch them if the person is actually looking at his screen (assuming it's a cov ops cloak not a regular one).

Yes, it is coming in Kali. Just because it's not working on SiSi right now doesn't mean they scrapped it, it means there's a bug or the right probes haven't been seeded/tried.

I love how people cry when their I-Win button gets turned into a Fair-Chance button.
I fly Covops, Recon, as well as a Carrier usually fitted with a cloak, and in IMO, this new probing is one of the best ideas ever.

There is nothing on sisi atm (seeded or not seeded) that indicate cloaked ships will be scannable. The only thing we have is a dev blog but if I am going to start pointing out every time something has changed from what was in the dev blog till it got live I don't think the character count will be enough.
One simple related example is the exploration system which is nothing like the dev blogs said it would be.
But I guess we will see in 5 days.

Have you lookup scanning definition? Scanning -- represents the ability to review and survey a large amount of data and information and selectively identify those areas or patterns that may be relevant. And since I am scanning for your cloaked ship, I sure need to identify where is it located, even if I can't see it.
Resume: Scanning get fixed. Cloaks are unchanged. ( you still will be invisible to the naked eye)
