Edited by: Arlen Warstadt on 26/11/2006 04:41:25 I hope what you're thinking of is starting missions for a new CORP, not a new FACTION. The difference is quite large. It's much easier to get started with a new corp under a similar faction.
My suggestion to you is raise your standing with your faction (Caldari, Gallente, Minmatar, Amarr). When determining what agents you have access to, the game uses either your corp standing (of the corp you are looking at running missions for) or your faction (that the corp is allied to) standing, whichever is higher. If you have a Caldari faction standing of, say, 6.0, you automatically have access to every level 4 agent (quality 0 or lower) in every corp that is allied with the said faction. Hence, you don't have to grind the level 1's continuously to get to the higher level agents.
That being said, raising your faction standing is no easy task, but to have access to so many agents with out having to farm the lower level ones mindlessly, it might be worth it. As a final note, faction standing is raised through storylines and I believe COSMOS missions.

Train Social III, then Connections to about III or IV. This makes your standings with any corp you are working for rise faster. I don't think it makes faction standings rise faster, but the quality of the rewards is dictated by the quality of the agent and your standing with that agent.

And there's no such thing as a Lvl2 mission with high level rewards.
Train hard and get to Lvl3s as soon as you can.

take some time and have a look through the factions available corps and the types and level/quality of agents available for those corps.
also note the location as well, you may not want to end up in low sec or heavily missioned areas.

"tips besides train social skills?"
Social skills *are* the shortcut.
Do the tut missions, three(one from each starting school) plus the one from turning in certificate, for the faction you're working on.
Do the lvl1 Cosmos missions for the faction.
Both these give decent faction boosts for the effort(compared to doing 16 lvl1s and a story line).

Actually, this will SLOW your standing gain, as Connections gives you an immediate bonus to any positive standings and the bonus reduces the higher you get in actual standing.

just grind away at 1s once u hit 2s the standing gain doubles from 1 - then u can get to 3s very quickly but tbh it takes a while for youre AF or cruiser skills to catch up to be able to do level 2s so mix it up with mining - PVP - piracy , industrial stuff in the meantime. The quickest way to get bored with eve is to do one thing continous for a long time

There's no way to really get to L2's quickly, besides grinding out L1's. Sorry. It just takes time to get the standings. The best advice is to stick to one corp.
For what it's worth, it took me about 2 weeks to go from L1 -> L2. It took me about 8 hours to get from L2 -> L3. Needless to say, my skills couldn't keep up that quickly, and I am just now feeling (eek!) like I can do L3's.

i can pilot bships, recon ships, interceptors, and everything inbetween - i just never had done missions
so far ive used bships for ratting, recon ships for pvp, and interceptors for tackling
i want to do whatever is fastest for level 3's, so if interceptors just cant do or take the damage, i can move up to my t2 fitting bship
so - can interceptors do lvl 3s?

Yes interceptors can do level 3's you can even manage level 4's but they take a LONG time to clear out. While a bs is overkill for level 3's they are perfect for 4's. If you can fly intie's, recon's etc, it isnt going to take very long at all to grind out a few level 1's, I use an af to grind through 3's when I want to raise standings quickly and fancy a change from the generally longer level 4 missions. It took me a day to go through level one agents to level 3's using an af.
SISI testing ôDonÆt forget to start the log server before the client; the logs are needed for bug reports when something goes wrong.ö Regards HexCaliber
