so basically my question is why?
I get there is the hole pimp factor and all, but beyond that.
I remember during one of my numerous discussions with thebutcherpete.(he is in THE BOOK, if you dont now him) he said there was a damage bonus to fighter bombers. But pete is a bit of a troll. So was he telling the truth or was he just trying to get a blingy kill?
So beyond the simple reason of "Because i could" is there a reason for fitting officer cloaks to your super carrier. And if so, does does that bonus apply to normal capitals such as a vanilla carrier?
Thanks in advance for answering this stupid question. |

lower sensor recalibration time meaning you can lock stuff sooner after decloaking lower max velocity modifier meaning when cloaked you move faster (probably not a huge advantage given base speeds looks like a 5m/s difference on a nyx between estamel and caldari navy cloaks) lower scan res penalty so you can lock stuff faster. Supers have not so great scan res. people pay a lot for faction/officer sensor boosters and they don't offer a huge boost over t2.
is a few seconds lock time worth that much? personally no, but I also don't fly supers.

Thanks ii hadnt thought about that. that makes sense but still doesnt fully explain officer spawns over other cloaks. The syndicate looses 2 seconds over Estamals. Estamal has the max velocity mod but in a super your gonna be slow boating it anyway. The 8% sensor penalty in the syndicate is the only real reason i can see and thats noting a decent sensor booster wont fix.
In a large scale fight where supers would normally be used a few seconds is the difference between wining and loosing. My t1 variant of sensor boosting on my thany cuts Targeting time in half. so i can understand faction sensor boosters in capitals but in sub caps its a waste of isk. But thats just my opinion. |

Two seconds and 8% might be recoverable with a sensor booster... But perhaps you're fitting sensor boosters already - perhaps you're fitting three already and have gone blingy on those so you don't have to fit a fourth, heavily stacking penalised one. If you're aiming for very fast lock (for a super), perhaps because you need to be able to get the point, perhaps because you're painting for others (I recall some talk of a tactic to make Titan guns track by hugely bloating BS with loads of target painters on Supers). For whatever reason you want a very fast lock (again, for a super) if you also need a cloak you may find that it becomes cost effective to go with an officer cloak over faction, you may even find Officer is the only way to get the numbers you need.
Is it important for every Super pilot? I guess not... In fact I would suggest that the need to ask why is probably an indication that you don't need to go purple... But some people don't ask why, and that perhaps starts a myth which then needs a hidden damage bonus to explain it. |

Thanks man. my only concern is why the hell supers dont have sub cap support? But thats more a tactical issue. |

If you have a super you probably aren't poor and can afford a decent cloak. For a ship that locks as slow as a super that extra scan res can add up to a surprising amount of time, especially when locking up small stuff.
Also most of the time my super doesn't have a cloak on it at all. The only time people put their cloaks on is when they are moving by themselves which is coincidentally how most people lose their supers. |

Believe there was a trick when doing sites to ECM burst to lose rat agro then cloak. So i guess being able to lock rats faster would stack up fast... and then cloak for safety...

Chainsaw Plankton is correct - it is mostly locking time.
