'Local is being nerfed with Kali!' 'CCP you MUST remove local now!' 'Local being removed in 0.0 is the only way for the game to go!'
Etc, then they go and boost local by adding standings in, I was against the removal of local but hell, I'd rather have no local than this.

There was a possibility of missing people before, you can now find standings easier in a system with a lot of people in.

Showing standings in local means that there is no longer a need to have hundreds of enemies in your address book.
I suspect that this may help to cut down lag.

Why would lag matter if the second you jump into a system, all the guys in there see you in local, hit warp to 0 on a station before you've even come out of cloak on the gate. Even if they don't you'll have to spend ages finding anyone because there's no map for directional scanning that shows your scan angle anymore.

I think local should be delayed a while before it registers a new player jumping in... if there was a 60 second delay for example, you would still be able to surprise people if you are lucky or know where they are, but not enough to catch them without knowing their location.
What do you think?

TBH, i would be happy if they removed local, or put standings in. Removing local hides your ebemies yes, but it also hides you. Showing what their standing are doesn't make you safer, but it makes you more aware, and saves show info'ing everyone (and the awkward 'start conversation' when you miss the 'show info' btton).

More "pirate ganking friendly" features... Again, it doesn't make any difference at all. You can just check the info of someone right now to see their standing, so this would only mean less lag and a quicker identification. The overview also already has options to highlight players with negative standings...

I dont understand why the took out the mini map.
I dont mind standing in local, apart from the fact it shows me as hostile to my self :-/, I guess they did it to decrease lag from buddies list and having to look at everyone in local. Oh and that local exploit which will go unnamed.

Edited by: Ronins Shadow on 29/11/2006 16:08:50 I still prefer the idea that you only show up in local if you have the local chat window open as with the other chat windows (excluding corp and alliance). Then if you choose to hide from local by closing it you also nerf yourself by not being able to see whos in the system.

Well, that and Show Info is a really heavy call. So we're making it simpler to view the information which is already available, while decreasing load.
The fate of local remains to be determined of course, as I have stated in 37 threads before. Or was it 84?

Local is chat channel, not an intelligence tool.
What should we do? Hey, let's make it show standings? Guess it removes lag.
I can't believe CCP haven't realised that miners cycle every 180 seconds rather than every few seconds like guns.

It's not that difficult. Simply change it to regional, done.
Far from perfect, but quick and addresses issues like lack of player communication.

So if your in a gang just 1 member has local open and tells everyone else whats in system.... sounds not that usefull.
Just stop whining about local........ they will never remove it and this standings thing just makes it easier to get info of every player in system (probably caused a lot of lag because everybody was getting that info manually)

I liked the idea of just moving local to constellation for default showing of people. Remains a marginally useful intelligence tool, and keeps the communication tool it should be.
i havent tested much, how is scanning working without the little mini-map. Why was that removed? Does the new seamless map replace that functionality.

The new local won't change much, 90% of people who got ganked mining/rating pre patch didnt pay attention to local And they will not pay attention to local now, after the patch.
