To everyone that is getting this on the logon screen and can't get logged in, the only way i've been able to "fix" this is by wiping my system and reinstalling Win XP SP2.
After that I installed the new EVE client downloaded from the site. (No patching old clients)
Client found the server just fine and i was able to log in to the game.
<sigh>
PS. If you don't have it... Go get a copy of Norton Ghost 2003!!! make a ghost image of a clean XP install and burn it to a bootable DVD with the ghost client. Takes all of 5 min to "Re-install" a clean copy of XP!!
Happy formating

Great, atleast some resolution.
Wich leaves me at thinking theres some registry issue hanging. And I guess its not likely there will be a fix/patch cleaning the registry from anything CCP. If anyone knows exactly whats written in there, please do drop me a note.
Formatting issnt really an option for me either.

Surely the same results could be gained by uninstalling Eve and cleaning the registry?
Anyway i'm waiting for now as mine worked fine up unitl a couple of hours ago then it started - nothing has changed on my sytem within the last 2 hours.

have you got a message like this one : "Unable to connect to the selected server. Please check the address and try again." ?

Well if it is a reg key that was crupt... I sure couldn't find it.
In fact i've never seen a reg key for Eve yet.

Yes... i was getting that as an error when trying to log on.
Before you "wipe" your system, try uninstalling Eve and manually deleting the ccp folder from program files. I'd like to know if there's a less "drastic" fix. Please post back

Rather than hunting through for the reg uninstall..delete folders...then use reg cleaner software on deep scan. That way theres no risk of you missing it manually.

Actually went through the registry - removing all relevant posts manually, after uninstalling. And then ran a reg cleaner to double check. Then installed to a fresh disk.
And true enough - it worked. I was logged in for a good 15 seconds. Then "Connection to the server was closed.", and status unknown. Restarted the client, status unknown - emptied cache and was able to connect again, crashed and now clearing cache wont help either. Very strange.

Very strange...
Well, all i can say is that after a ton of ideas that i've tried or read on the forums, formating and starting with a clean fresh install of XP and a clean download of the client (not patching an older client) is the only way of fixing this issue.
I may be wrong... but, it "fixed" my system, been in and out of game several times today, and have a freshly installed system to boot. (Same drivers that I was running on the old build. Wanted to check that as well)
Its a pain i know... but it did fix the issue.

Well, the problem seems solved now anyway, thanks to Hogan and limbo_ of the #eve-online on quakenet. Tons of thanks.
Now, the logfile points out that theres a socket error 10055 - No buffer space is available.
Thus ive disabled pretty much all processes on the system, and increased the page file setting it to another physical disk. I dont yet know what solved it, but ill spend some time working on it. Im also having issues where a ISP controlled router(or spoofed, however unlikely) is spamming me with ARP packets.
Either way its due to low resources, and seems to be running stable atm.
