When I made the OCD comment it was intended as a hyperbole but your having taken exception to it makes me wonder now.
You seem obsessed with maintaining virgin standings with the Angel Cartel and compelled to not engage in nearly all in game activities as a result of said obsession regardless of the lack of any logical reason for doing so.
Hyperbole or not aside my main point remains that this is a game. Play it to have fun and don't worry too much about silly little stuff.
Also note that you started this thread off not so much just asking for advice as you were just digging your heals in and attesting to what you would not do and offering little reason for justification. Had you said something more like " I want to run missions for angel cartel down the road, what happens if I get bad standing with them now running missions or belt ratting in high sec and what options are open to me that don't prevent or make that overly difficult to do in the future" my response would have been different.
When you start off rigidly attached to a very specific thing in this sandbox of a game that you know nearly nothing about, my decision on how best to help you is going to be most focused on helping you loosen up and broaden your perspective a bit.

Your OCD comment didn't worry me, its a subject that although I'd heard about, I'd not taken much interest in it before. So I decided it was time to find out more.
Its not an obsession, more of an aspect that'll help define the character as a character.
I've tried most of those other professions whilst doing the career missions enough to know which activity I like the most. I realise those missions were done with basic skills.
Mining, seems to be a semi afk activity. Start lasers and wait until the hold is full. I don't play MMOs to be semi-afk.
Exploring, doesn't seem like fun to me, scanning seems easy to do and not sure what to call unlocking the containers, mini games I guess just doesn't seem fun to me.
Manufacturing, doubt I could be competitive especially as I wouldn't be mining.
Research, unless you are going to make something why bother.
Trading, just not my thing.
Hauling, pick up from one station 10 jumps drop it off at another station, not really what I want to do and doesn't really fit in with the character.
I'm sure a lot of players do like those professions but they're just not me or what I have in mind for the character. If I was trying to play the game and do other stuff at the same time then mining would be ideal, but I'm not. |

curse is a very populated area, but if you plan on moving there then no reason why you need to stay in highsec, depending on how old or experienced you are, i started in faction warfare to get the hang of pvp then moved to a Serpentis loyalist corp in nullsec very young, good idea would be to focus on getting into an interceptor.
once you get the hang of flying a ship there is no reason why you cant move to curse and get your Cartel and Serpentis standings up, curse is quite rough due to the pirate agents but being a bit more aware will help you out, there is a few corps who are loyalist corps which you might enjoy if you are into the rp side of things.

Jump into the OOC player channel in-game. I know for a fact there is some roleplay Angel cartel pirate corporations in there. Just join in and talk to them and tell them what you are planning on doing.
I think one is Stillwater. Not sure my memory is correct, but I believe that is one.

I started out the same way: exploration seemed like the least fun activity. An older player (Cara Forelli) suggested that I might change my mind. She was quite right.
When it comes to exploration, I still don't find hacking sites any fun. However, there is also combat exploration. And when done in low sec, it is, in my opinion, a great activity for a solo player (like me - without alts and everything) as it provides a bit of everything: isk, pvp, never-knowing what you'll find, and learning a bit more about your ship. You can go for days without getting anything worthwhile, and make 150M in a single site. Of course, that's merely my way of having fun when I have the time. I would suggest giving exploration and other activities a go, and see what helps you learn the game plus have fun at the same time.
PS: there is also FW, which can be a bit of fun, but all the off-grid boosts/gangs make it just a bit less so if you play completely solo like me. On the other hand, if you don't play solo and join small gangs/fleets, I imagine it can be much more fun. |

@ Lan Wang
Took your advice training for an interceptor although I'm also training for a Dramiel training plan mainly working from the level 3 certs. Most of the skills that I require are the same for both ships.
@ Cyber SGB
Took a look at Stillwater they are an Angel Cartel RP corp. although they appear to be in low-sec rather than 0.0. They also require a 10 million sp entry.
Been noticing quite a few other corps. which required sp, quite a few seem to have settled for amount of 5 million sp.
So obviously those type of corps don't really see much use for new players.
I've only got 300k sp at the moment so brushed the cobwebs off of Skyrim, so I'll split my time between both games and probably kick around in the Dramiel in high-sec for awhile whilst building up the sp.
@ Cellini Benveriuto
Whilst I'm kicking about in high-sec I might try1 or 2 of those combat sites, although I won't fire on Angels unless I have no choice.
As for faction wars, if it was pirates verses the other factions then yeah that could be good, but I don't think that's the case.
I can see why you say what you say about off-grid support. Just wonder if it's noticeable that they are receiving off-grid support when they are.
Anyway thanks for the replies.

Stillwater are a good bunch of guys i spent some time in that corp, Leo is very knowledgable and he will tell you alot about the Cartel if you jump into the public channel, you also have Coreli but they are Serpentis, but serpentis are close with the cartel and also based out of curse.
300k sp is pretty low, one thing i would suggest is to get into lowsec asap and start learning to pvp maybe through faction warfare, this will give you some good experience. maybe avoid the dramiel for pvp as its pretty expensive unless you have the isk to burn

If you like the lore you should take a look at this website: Eve Travel
It's full of informations, things to do (and to see) and maintain a deep section on the lore of EVE. Take a look too to the linked websites that you can find there.
Look for RP based Corp in game too, there are some of them.

You don't have to fire on Angels, Avvy! Fire on Guristas, Serpentis, Blood Raiders, Sansha, Drones. I'm a bit into the RP part too (all Amarr), so I get that part. But there are quite a few pirate factions, and one thing I know about pirates - they hate other pirates as much as they hate the authorities (or so say all those books about pirates I used to read!) |

Avvy wrote:Problem with combat in high sec is that I want to keep my pirate faction standing positive
I know I'm late to the party on this one... but there's your problem right there.
There is literally no benefit to positive pirate faction standing if you have the standings to operate in high sec. And yes, I mean LITERALLY. Even the pirate faction ships are obtained much faster by doing some high-sec missions and buying them off the market with the resulting isk than farming LP for the pirates, so your access to gear with positive Cartel etc is actually inferior, and pirates will always be red to you in aggression terms even if you've got 9.99 with them.
So... yeah. Ditch this goal entirely, it's a bad goal that's preventing you from doing what you want to do now in exchange for a future tradeoff that essentially doesn't ever actually pay off. I'm all for farming pirate rep up just for the hell of it, but only do it when you're already _doing something else that already puts you in the area_. |

Do not wait on getting involved in the rp aspect of the game if you really want to rp.
Begin getting to know your fellow roleplayers.
The Summit is an in-game rp chat channel. OOC is the companion out-of-character chat channel.
A major aspect of EvE is getting to know people and developing relationships whether friend or enemy. :D

@ Lan Wang
Thanks for the information.
I did consider going into low-sec using a rifter to check it out. Then yesterday I added four +3 implants for a boost to the sp gain. Idea being to boost the sp to a reasonable level before discarding them probably by being podded. After which I wasn't going to replace them.
As for the serpentis if they're friends/allies I'll treat them as such.
@ Alleja DeSan-na
Thanks for the information and the link
@ Cellini Benvenuto
Only rep I wish to protect is Angel Cartel and their friends and allies. So yeah there is plenty of scope still left for at least keeping myself occupied for awhile, whilst training. Made easier of course once I decided it's unlikely that I'll be able to have good relations with all pirate NPC corps.
@ Lost Greybeard
Well it is a risk. Only have this character and don't intend to have any others. The account is by sub, so don't need to worry about earning enough to extend game time by PLEX.
All I really need is to be able to make enough to cover the PvP losses, which I'm sure will be quite a few especially to start with.
Once I leave high-sec I don't really see much of a reason to go back there.
The one thing that's a pity is that if you have good relations with an NPC pirate corp, their members should treat you as friendly.
@ Cyber SGB
Good advice, those channels could help as well as other channels. Might even mean that they won't all shoot at me when I get there. |
